Hasselhof was so famous in Germany (West, then) that after the Berlin Wall was opened Nov.8-9, 1989 (I was studying in Europe, Luxembourg, then) at New Year’s, David H’ was put on a lift at the Wall to sing a song about “Freedom” to the assembled party, with fireworks. I was really befuddled, as an American, watching it on tv -Germans partied, the Wall was open, it’s history.

Yep, White's line fault and sudden death were not in the original cut. Instead, Peter is eliminated, Globo Gym celebrates, and the movie just kind of ends. The "True Underdog Story" was supposed to allude to the underdogs predictably losing, but test audiences didn't like it. The original ending can be found on youtube

It's not often that I feel like the studio interference got it right, but they definitely did here. The original ending just falls flat and it's a complete tonal lurch from the rest of the film. It's hard to justify a 'realistic' ending when there is nothing real in any of the rest of it!

The commentary at the end with Ben talking to the camera was because the original ending saw Average Joe's lose. The test audience rebelled and they reshot it. You're about as useful as... is one of my all time favorite movie quotes. Missy Pyle Needs to be better known. She was also the only female Thermian in Galaxy Quest. She's been in things where she looks normal, but she's tragically underrated as a character actor. Another Ben Stiller movie in this line is Mystery Men from around 1998. No explanation, no hints. Just watch it.

A couple of fun facts about this movie: Ben Stiller broke three cameras in succession filming one scene, and even hit his wife Christine Taylor in the face once. In an interview he said they drove home together and that it was a very awkward moment between the two. According to many cast members, the hardest part of filming the dodgeball scenes was not flinching when they knew they were about to be hit by a ball. One of Dame Helen Mirren's favorite movies, according to Rotten Tomatoes. In the scene where Peter walks into his hotel room and White and Me'Shell are there waiting for him, White says, "¿Donde está la biblioteca Pedro?" In Spanish, it means "Where is the library Peter?". Of the 32 teams in the Las Vegas Tournament, 16 were identified by name or shown in competition. They are: Average Joes, Globo Gym Purple Cobras, Flying Cougars, Team Blitzkrieg, Kamikazies, Skillz that Killz, Las Vegas Police Department, Lumberjacks, M.I.L.F.S., Moose Knuckles, Clown Punchers, Mulchers, She-Mullets, Wedgies, Yetis and Pouncers. Dodgeball 2 has been confirmed and is currently in development.

Both are loads of fun, if you haven't seen them I highly recommend them. Josie is the one you've probably heard the least about. It's not what I was expecting at all. Fun fact: 16:30 when Justin is getting absolutely smoked by dodgeballs from the pitching machine that was real--in that they had it cranked up for him and he was just getting pounded. When Vince showed up for his filming of the scene they fired like 1 at that speed and he put his foot down (perhaps given the star power) and had them slow the machine way down. He had no idea Justin had been absolutely eating dodgeballs prior to that. You can see it in the speed of the ball Vince catches vs the zero-arch heaters bouncing off Justin!

This movie is a hilarious classic! This is also the movie that introduced me to Alan Tudyk, Justin Long, Jole David Moore, Jason Bateman, Gary Cole, and Chris Williams! I remember everyone in middle school would recite hilarious lines from the movie! They just don’t make comedy movies like these anymore. ‘Dude, Where’s My Car’, ‘The New Guy’, ‘Anchorman’, ‘The Benchwarmers’, ‘Kangaroo Jack’… so many classic 2000s comedy to list. Your reaction towards the end of the movie was priceless! Hahaha! I’m glad you enjoy the film! :D

This movie is insanely quotable, hysterical, and just plain fun! I absolutely love this one. And we knew what we were doing back then with humor. No one got bent out of shape, we just laughed. "If you want dodgeball victory you gotta grab it by it's haunches and hump it into submission. That's the only way!"

Missy Pyle was the unibrow girl . Incidentally both she & Justin Long worked together in Galaxy Quest. I’m also surprised that no one recognized Patches (Rip Torn) as Zed from Men In Black

Ben Stiller comedies: There's Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, Along Came Polly, Starsky & Hutch, Mystery Men, The Watch, Tower Heist, Duplex. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is not a comedy, but it is an underrated Ben Stiller movie.

Ben Stiller directed and cameoed in The Cable Guy starring Jim Carrey and Mathew Broderick. A+ dark comedy, highly recommend.

I remember when I saw this in the theater (one of TONS of movies I saw in the theater during 2004), I laughed harder and more frequently than I ever had at any movie before.

Definitely should check the movie, Heavyweights. Ben Stiller plays the "villain" haha. His character in Dodgeball, I believe, is based off of that. Good movie.

My favorite line - ESPN, the Ocho! We say that all the time when we find ourselves watching an obscure sport. I also love Jason Bateman in this - he's so spacy!

The weird thing is that Average Joe's Gym was originally supposed to lose the tournament (you can find the clip on youtube), but the studio had them change it because it was such a bummer

Another Ben Stiller comedy that you maybe haven't watched is Mystery Men (1999). Paul Reubens and Hank Azaria are also in it.

Christine Taylor, the lead actress, is Ben Stiller's wife. They were in Zoolander together, which is maybe Ben Stiller's funniest movie. It's not for everyone, but the people who like it, love it.

Its funny you mentioned the taxes because i always say that in these type of movies. I know its obviously a movie and they dont factor that in, but in reality, they would still be pretty short after the taxes.

I have a theory that ben stiller actually plays the same character across a couple different movies but because he keeps failing he has to keep changing his name. Because if you haven't seen heavyweights that movie has him playing the same guy basically and his dad is super rich as well.

My fav part of this movie has to be where ben stiller shows up to the girls house and she slams his head into the wall, then he walks away, gets on a moped with this giant guy on it, flips her the bird and drives off.. omg I almost peed myself the first time I seen it. so funny!
