-----------------------------------------------------------------------
In this clip, Big U discussed the onset of the crack epidemic in South Central Los Angeles. Big U explained how the drug culture in L.A. morphed from the early '80s to the mid-'80s when crack flooded the streets. He also broke down how the drug culture on the ground was influenced, in part, by the film industry that pushed plenty of 'gangster' movies that depicted the illicit economy.
Later on, Big U talked about how his gang, the Rollin' 60 Crips were known as the "wealthy crips," and how he grew up studying martial arts.

djvlad You really need to get Crooked I back on here again, especially since it's been a while since you've interviewed him, and you really need to ask him about how it was like working with Organized Noize when working on Kurupt's 2nd album.

Cracc did indeed change LA drastically. My uncles tell me stories how they went from doing hits with 38 revolvers to AK47s within a span of 3 years in the early 1980s. Shit is crazy!

It was very wise of Big U's family to have him and his siblings be disciplined/focused some kind of way w/ Martial Arts! I think that that is actually uniquely cool!

No, mostly all the neighborhoods I lived in everyone picked up boxing. It was weird if someone picked up karate or mixed martial arts. Alot of people pick up mixed martial arts now days because of UFC. But in the 80's if you did karate and was a drug dealer and lived in 60's, and your family were crips? That's unusual to anyone...
