This is one of the biggest problems with the American justice system. A state has millions of tax dollars, an entire prosecutors office, the police, sheriff's office, state Bureau of investigations, a crime lab, can charge whatever they want as far as offenses go, and then it is up to people who have nowhere close to the resources of the state to defend themselves while prohibited from being able to do anything for their defense while held in pretrial detention
@Josephfromsalem Жыл бұрын
Ah yes, the real problem with the American Justice system is there are too many resources to bring criminals to Justice. Smh, if you don’t wanna go to prison don’t be a criminal. If you don’t want a RICO case, don’t order people to commit crimes.
@notgoneconform Жыл бұрын
@TheyCallMeJinx no, there is a thing such as fundamental fairness in our justice system. You are presuming that the person arrested is actually guilty, and I can tell you from personal experience that that is not the case always. A lot of times, people are actually innocent of the offense but due to the fact that the state can charge whatever they want, even when directly refuted by affidavits from law enforcement, which then gets you an excessive bail and makes a lawyer unaffordable. Now because you're in jail and can't work, you can't pay for your own legal counsel. That is not how our system is supposed to work. What people like you are proponents of would be something like Guantanamo Bay where people are held for decades with no due process based off an allegation. In order to be caught in a Rico case, you don't actually have to commit a criminal offense. You can know the wrong people and in an effort to get to who they want, they wrap a bunch of unnecessary people into the case.
@Josephfromsalem Жыл бұрын
@@notgoneconform Sounds like you committed a crime or know some criminals and are just trying to cope. The state can’t just charge you with whatever they want, not how the Justice system works. Why don’t you just not commit crimes or associate with criminals? You’re Guantanamo Bay argument is nonsense, you know the whole point of it is that the people in Guantanamo are totally outside of the US Justice system ? We’ve got way too many criminals in this country who just get away because of technicalities. No tears shed for Young Thug, he wanted to be a gangster, well this is what gangsters get. If you order someone to commit a crime, just because you didn’t commit the crime personally doesn’t mean you didn’t commit a crime, that’s the whole point of the RICO act. Focus on living life on the right side of the law instead of bitching when you get caught.

This is 1 of the most valuable interviews I've seen on Vlad. It shows the total lack of accountability of our justice system, especially Georgia! Also shows how a DA can target an individual with name recognition with no reguard legal process and constitutional rights. Our legal system now uses a "by any means necessary" approach to get a conviction. Our elected officials are acting in self interest and self promotion instead of following guidelines or even common sense. And this has mistrial written all over it. So this multi million dollar trial will fiancially penalize jurors,lawyers,witnesses and defendants so the DA and judge can become household names and monetize this situation.

Excellent interview. This guy is succinct, clear, direct, and articulate about subjects that many others would complicate with too many words and verbose. I was just reading about the economics of this case as far as the absurdly underpaid public defenders, and the economics alone of finding jurors in a process with a ton of defendants where a question that would normally take a few minutes can end up taking a few hours. They're nowhere close to finding jurors because like he said, who's going to agree to be paid $25 per day for at least a year? It makes no sense. Thugger and others should be allowed to bond under conditions or simple home confinement. These RICO cases have always bothered me because I've always questioned the Constitutionality of the law which was essentially a cheat code invented by the government to go after the Italian-American mob who were outsmarting them.

@citypopFM Жыл бұрын
@@DJRenee I genuinely hope they beat it but even if the state loses the case, I already know the feds will indict them on a federal RICO since this is a state RICO. That's worrying because Thugger and the others will be forced to stay imprisoned for the duration of another giant case that could take an absurd amount of time on top of this current one. As I elaborated, I dislike these RICO beefs because it's a workaround from busting and convicting people fair and square. The prospect of beating a federal RICO is extremely nil too. Gunna going on the record acknowledging YSL is a street gang and witnessing them commit crimes in furtherance of the gang is essentially enough for a conviction if it's used in this case or the inevitable federal indictment. A RICO conviction comes down to "proving" someone is a part of a continuing criminal enterprise, as vaguely worded by the law, not actually convicting someone for crimes they can prove they directly committed. On top if that, they purposely throw ridiculous 30, 50, or life sentences for these convictions to virtually ensure someone will flip and rat on the target of the government, in this instance being Thugger. It's legally bothersome but I sincerely hope he beats it, and can get back to his life, family, and career.

The problem with all of this lies within the prison system. Georgia has one of the biggest prison systems in the country. It’s literally a business for people to go to prison, even if you get probation at first. The investors of these prisons have enough power and money to put pressure on these judges and prosecutors to secure convictions. It’s that simple. Over the years it has become a professional game being played at the people’s expense, innocent or not.

So when they say, “This is a waste of tax dollars,” they don’t know what they’re talking about! Every entity has a budget! Thanks for explaining.

If I was a newer attorney I'd take on this case because it's a high profile case so you'd be able to make big bucks afterwards assuming you did a good job or won. Play the long game
@pkc11d Жыл бұрын
I get this point but is hard to take this case as a newer attorney as you have to pay your bills especially grad school loans. They would be better off looking for a seasoned attorney that already has money that wants to do this case probono.
@wardonthestreet Жыл бұрын
How would you pay your bills? Lol

Unless you have a job that pays your salary during jury duty you are screwed.

How do you do jury duty every day with a job at the same time 🤷♂️
@EducatedBlackMan Жыл бұрын
@@tombondcrispy6585 Before I became a private attorney I worked for the government. Most government jobs and some corporate jobs will pay your salary while on jury duty. If over 30 days you have to request permission to continue to be paid. Some jobs will make you use vacation and sick leave.

The attorneys are building a billion dollar reputation as the "go to" for hip hop rico case law and being paid $15K. I think it's a very smart strategy to corner a niche market.

The problem is that Fani Willis was waaay to ambitious and didn’t think this case through. The one I feel bad for is judge Glanville.

Not really her fault. This seems more like a systemic issue. Seems like the laws need to be re-worked to fix the issues (not the prosecutor).
