--------
Former NBA star Sebastian Telfair recalled the 2001 ABCD basketball camp where Kobe Bryant was a speaker. He mentioned how impactful the experience was and how Bryant's words encouraged him to focus on getting to the NBA. Telfair also shared his experiences competing against Lenny Cooke in high school, who was at one point ranked above LeBron James. However, Telfair expressed that despite the hype around Cooke, he never seemed to be on LeBron's level. Telfair also addressed speculation about Cooke's failed transition, suggesting a combination of poor work ethic and potential disagreements with agents might have been the cause. Despite these obstacles, Telfair remains clear on one point: hard work, commitment and picking your own path are vital, using his own journey to the NBA as an example.

I’m so glad Sebastian Telfair set the record straight for the people in the back. LeBron James was always “HIM”. In 2001, LeBron James was a 1st team USA Today All-American as a sophomore. Additionally, he was the first sophomore to be Mr. Basketball in Ohio. Also, he was 1st team all state in football as a wide receiver.

You got to realize a lot of people are not old enough or just didn't pay attention to high-school athletics at the time. LeBron on the basketball scene was a mythical creature. He was having one on one's with NBA players at like 15 or 16 and this was before AAU was a big deal.

The Lenny Cooke being ranked over Lebron is overblown. For one Lenny Cooke was in the 2002 class and Lebron was in the 2003 so they didn't come out the same year. Lenny however was ranked higher than Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudimere. He became the number one player in his class when he was the MVP of the legendary ABCD camp back in 2000. The following year at the camp that's when he matchup with Lebron and Lebron got the best of him. Lenny was definitely talented enough to play in the NBA but he made some decision that end up hurting him.

I think at that point people just realized Lenny wasn't as dedicated and didn't even have the right people around him. Lenny just was never in the spotlight again after that. Lenny was supposed to be better than Bron and barely competed in that game. But after that game it was clear he wasn't dedicated and didn't have the right people around him. He still had chances after that but never popped. The rumors were correct on him and Bron took over the world. The rest is history.

That league had a lot of well known college players and overseas pros and Lenny was treating them like toddlers. He was averaging damn near 30 effortlessly. I think stern blackballed him after that especially since Boston still took a chance on him despite his past.

Y'all need to stop with this shit. Lenny Cooke wasn't ranked higher than Bron. Lenny was the #1 player in his class. Bron was ranked #1 in his class. Bron was considered the best pro prospect in the country regardless of class. Stop pushing that fake narrative

They still do an overall ranking of players regardless of class. Lenny was ranked higher at the time. He was bigger and older than Bron and coming out of new york playing against better talent. Lenny was that dude. I'm not surprised he was ranked higher than a 16 yr old from Akron Ohio lol. They still show overall rankings to this day as well as the rankings by class.

He was that dude it definitely wasn't hype. He was playing against top talent in New york. But scouts knew what he was doing off the court. He was already 19 cuz he failed a grade. The wrong people got to him early. He was taking money and shit too. He was doing the most.

Plus lenny was 19 at the time and out of new york and lebron was only 16. The best player coming out of new york should be ranked higher than a 16 year old from Akron. Lenny was that dude. If he wasn't partying the night before maybe he would of played better. I think he underestimated Bron and the whole team. Lenny only had 9 points but only lost the game at the buzzer. Bron scored 24.

I don’t want to say this is specific to Lenny but there are a handful of jobs for superstar players. The rest everyone finds a role, and sometimes it’s doing things you don’t necessarily want to do but that’s how you stay in the league. Not everyone gets to be Kobe or Lebron for a team.

Lenny cook was a 20 year old senior. Dude wasn’t good he was an adult. Go to the rec and grab a 20 year old. Take him to an AAU camp watch him dominate. Also the only game he ever played against Lebron was when Lebron was a sophomore. And he only scored 11 pts, and they lost the game .

People say Bron is on steroids because he is still jumping out of the gym and still faster than most players at the age of 40. Every past player lost their athleticism in their early to mid 30’s and Bron is 40 and still able to play the same at 40 like he was at 25. 🤔

I played against a guy name Jhonny Gordon in highschool. He was top 30 in highschool. Had a full ride to Syracuse and Seton Hall and Maryland. In 11/12 grade he got involved in heavy drinking and selling dope. Never played college ball and been in and out of prison since. This was 1996. Smh. You never know
