This song was sung by a local in Union Hall when my Uncle Michael and four other fishermen went missing off the coast of Cork on 15th January 2012, they have all been found and laid to rest, may they all Rest In Peace

RIP to all who are lost at sea. So many brave hard working men trying to earn a living from fishing the job they love. Also great credit to their equally brave rescuers and so ably reflected in this great song.

Pop a Newfoundland lander started when he was ten and 62 years later was able to retire safely ashore. Our prays were answered each and every time he was at sea . I sailed myself for 16yrs and I too made it Home from the Sea. This song has a special meaning to those who sail the sea for a living in little boats and make it Home from the Sea.

This was Liam. I was there. We recorded this in Dublin in or near Windmill lane studios. I sang in the 'lifeboat chorus' which was made up of whoever was hanging around the studio on the day. We also recorded some other song where we start clapping out of time for comic effect and then in time. I was there as a photographer. I am not related to Liam Clancy. I am not a lifeboat man. I still sing his songs and my favourite is 'The Dutchman'.

There’s no more noble service than rescuing people who “are in peril on the sea” my Doctor, an Irish Man , who ( think gained his medical doctorate at Trinity College Dublin) he runs the Dublin , New York, and the London Marathon. Personally I think he’s crazy, but I love him for his grit and determination. Safety at sea is very great leveller of human kind. Well done all who are in the Volunteer Services be it RNLI , or others ,are truly selfless individuals.

As an old sailor, I appreciate the efforts of the RNLI, Coast Guards, and other lifesaving organizations world wide. This song brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat. This is Liam Clancy. This was originally released on Phil Coulter's album 'Words & Music'. The version on Phil's album 'Songs I Love So Well' is exactly the same except Phil is singing instead of Liam. The instrumentation and backing vocals are the same one Liam sang to. On the 'Words & Music' album of Phil's, the Dubliners are heard singing 'Take Me Home'. Same thing here. Using the same background, Phil replaced the Dubliners voices with his own.

This is Phil Coulter singing it, not Liam. It WAS written by Phil Coulter after the tragic loss of his elder brother, Brian, who was tragically drowned in Lough Swilly in 1984. This song was recorded by Phil, the Clancy brothers and the Lifeboat Chorus (actual lifeboat crews).
