Hello Everyone. In this episode we continue with the internal doors, tackling the angled to the boat shaped one. It has been quite enjoyable making both doors and they look great now they are in. They can be painted at a later stage but for now it is nice to finally have doors. Hope you enjoy 👍
No vlog next week as we hope we will be out cruising at last 👍

Congratulations, a splendid effort Grandad. Glad that you altered it, one that's too soft is no good as Nanny said! Just to make you envious Nanny I've got a friend whose doors are planked in a diamond pattern. Aren't the grandchildren growing up fast? You'll have to film a new introduction soon.

Cheers Gary. That's nice of you to say. We think we would have to promote ourselves a lot more and add catchy thumbnails with clickbait slogans to give the channel a boost and that is not what we want to do. Our vlogs are not done to get an income so it doesn't really matter if we don't get high numbers but the views , likes and subs really show us what people think of the channel and if its worth us carrying on doing them. Our views have really dropped this year and most weeks we loose more subscribers than we gain which sort of tells us peeps are getting a bit fed up with us now 🤣. We are going to carry on until we have no more building work to do and then do the occasional cruising vlog and see how it goes. 👍

Nearly there grandad. It’s looking great, them doors are SOLID.😂 Can I ask a question? Did you treat your fuel tank when it was on the hard to prevent rust? Our shell is due soon and it will be a long while before the engine is fitted, just wondering if you treated yours with anything.

Cheers Wayne, No we didn't do anything to our fuel tank. Just kept it sealed until we were ready to use it when we installed our diesel heater. We've never heard of anyone else treating theirs either. We have had no problems so far. Good luck with your build 👍

Hi Nanny and Grandad. Whilst your shell was on the hard being fitted out who did you insure with? We are struggling to find insurers. Thanks

@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg 8 ай бұрын
Hi Wayne. Sorry for late reply. We used a company called Westfield Sub Aqua & Marine Insurance Services. Insured for Inland Craft. It was a policy that as the value of the build increased you can increase the insurance accordingly. We dealt with Nick Caldwell. Hope this helps. 👍

Hi grandad. Boat is looking great the final touches are coming together. Can I ask a question? Your boat was on the hard for a while with no engine, did you treat the fuel tank with anything to stop rust forming on the inside? Our shell is being delivered at the end of the month and it may be 2 years before the engine goes in so wanting to protect the fuel tank if possible. What did you do (if anything)? Thanks for the vlogs we have watched them all.

I've never faced the problem you describe, never owned a cut boat actually. So, take my thoughts with caution! I wonder though, if you put maybe a liter or 2 of diesel in the tank and swabbed it around the interior surfaces, wouldn't it's oily nature tend to protect the steel?

Hello Wayne, I wanted to expand on my previous answer a bit. I was more than a bit concerned about access to your diesel tank, whether you could work inside with a paintbrush, roller, spray gun, etc. I'll assume that sufficient access to work inside of the tank is available. Here in the US (I'm betting in the UK as well) you can buy a number of what appear to be permanent solutions, POR-15, Rust-Oleum ROCEpoxy, KBS Tank Sealer & Caswell Epoxy are just a few available options. To be honest too, I've never used any of these products. I did though back when, paint an entire car with a epoxy based paint called Imron. It worked very well. I wouldn't recommend Imron to paint inside your tank, but man epoxy paints are tough! Imron, as do these products I mention, comes with serious warning about wearing an appropriate respirator. Please let me know if I can help in any way!

@@mittman9977 The problem is I think most Narrowboats are like ours and only have a hole big enough to get the Diesel filler nozzle in so can imagine it would be quite hard to get an even coat of spray on all the surface and also not block any of the fuel pipe while spaying blind. Not sure what the solution would be if you wanted it done

@@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg Thank you H/A, I agree completely and was wondered if that might be the situation. (I will delete that post if you think it's advisable.) I'll add this comment as something of a warning, I don't want anyone to end up with a mess! When I suggested in my first comment that one could dump in a small amount of diesel and attempt to swab it around; I could rather believe that could be done through a rather small filler nozzle. If one is certain to not lose what they are using to swab around in the tank. I wouldn't brag that would be anything close to ideal, but this could be relatively safely done. H/A's, previous comment is spot on, absolutely only use epoxy paint or other coatings if one is certain they can be applied properly and the finish will stay put. This is the flipside of this, one wants to only put something into a tank like that with a small opening that will burn cleanly in the engine, or stay where they were properly applied to the inside of the tank. Epoxy paint chips/overspray sucked into a diesel engine/filter would be a disaster!
