Great review and insight on improvements as compared to your '17 f3 pwc. Watched you clean the brushes on the old f3 and you referred to them as two-pole motors. Are the new f3 motors four-pole? In light of your 'Edge' bomb, some folks might like your thoughts about the difference and benefits of both two-pole and four-pole pwc motors. Thanks

I just ordered this chair. This video is very helpful. Thanks for doing this. It's kinda hard to find detailed reviews on any kinda chair. I've always ordered rear drives for my heavy duty chairs, but I have other smaller power chairs for "indoors," which is a front-drive. I did consider a Mid-drive, but I figured that I MAY get stuck more often because the main wheel is in the middle with a pair of little wheels on the front and back, so depending on the angle in which it's driven up a ramp, there is a possibility that it would get stuck.

Howdy! Just got a used F3 on the Marketplace for $400. Its first owner passed away last month, he was a double-leg amputee, so it didn't have the leg accessories, which I promptly ordered off ebay. It came with a thick ROHO seat cushion, already, so I'm learning from every source I can. My casters don't have the skirts, but the big wheels do. As far as tying it down, I go with cross-tying them down, instead of point-to-point. It works better.

For cleaning the hard spots use cans air works great. I had a per mobile abut 12 years ago and hated it.the arms only had “back” support and when transferring the single bolt would break. The first few times were almost disastrous when I contacted my provider he said the arms were not ment to be used for transferring. I’m a c6/7 as of 7-8-1969 and needed the arms for transferring. I'm currently driving a 2021 lime green Permobil F3 that I took delivery of on December 20, 2021 (ordered March 13, 2020) and my parents have even noticed a difference in the engine performance compared to my 2015 Permobil F3 that I took delivery of back in October 2015. At first I wasn't sure if they were right about the new 2021 chair being maybe a little faster and then my 2015, but after they review that you just did on your chair I'm actually surprised that they did change of the engines a little bit, I thought it was just the same that's what I had before and I thought it was just the programming done on the software that gave it a little extra power. Another thing that I also really like about this newer generation for the F3 is the technology, for multiple reasons especially the MyPermobil Bluetooth connectivity function that comes with the chair. I personally like having it because if I'm driving somewhere and if something happens to the chair they can look on their computer and locate my chair if I am in need of help. Another thing I learned about this chair just recently from my salesman is that if you give than permission they can actually adjust the diagnostics on these newer chairs over Wi-Fi which is really interesting. Also I love how the Bluetooth connectivity option now comes standard on all of the chairs because the feature is built into the controller instead of being a separate option, and another convenient feature built into the joystick is infrared. I love having the ability to control my TV or any other infrared compatible device just with my controller on the wheelchair. My beautiful Green Machine turn eight months old on August 20 and I just have over 70 km on it, and I agree with you Dan this is the best chair for sale. It's going to take a lot for other manufacturers to compete with this chair.

I’m a C4-C5 Quadriplegic and also use a permobile F3. For about 20 years I always had an Invacare Arrow Storm. I never had issues except for worn tire replacement which is expected or batteries not holding a long charge after three or four years. It always felt fast and extremely precise. I don’t go out except maybe two or three times a week for different occasions “Doctor appointments , shopping , etc”. I take good care of my electric legs😀! I don’t know if I have the dud of an F3 batch, but I truly hate this chair. From the first day I received it, it drives like a bus compared to my older in the care chair. Granted the F3 is a front wheel drive chair and the Arrow Storm is rear wheel drive. The rep from the wheelchair company did all they could through the settings to make it more precise. It’s as if there’s a sensitivity governor on the chair so that if I make a quick movement it delays the response. Also, I told the wheelchair rep a week after I had the chair that there’s a weird gearing mesh grind sound coming out of one of the motors while coasting. Thankfully it had only been a few months old “yep, had to wait that long for a new motor” and the motor was replaced under warranty. I also had a separate tilt and reclined touch box that burnt out after six months. The batteries have just been replaced this past week and are only just over a year and a half old. Now the chair as of yesterday is making a squeaking sound on the right side and cannot find where it’s coming from for the life of me. THE CHAIR IS ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF OLD. What else is gonna go wrong in the next three and a half years until I can get one covered by insurance? I’m glad your chair has worked out for you. Me however, I’m counting the days until my insurance will cover a new powerchair.

factory programming is definitely a thing... its odd that a permo rep wasn't able to get things sorted out for ya though! the motor brushes can be noisy sometimes - its a common ish thing.. My first chair back in 2011 was a Permobil C300, which is the older version of the F3. These are both front wheel drive models. My next chair I got in 2016 was the Permobil M3. I chose that chair for the dumbest reason ever! The ALS support groups I go to, I'd be the first person to have the new M series chair. I have just hated the mid wheel drive as the additional front casters make driving it more difficult as it creates more drag with added casters having to rotate. Not to mention, off roading is horrible as the second you spin the drive wheels, then if you try to back up, the front casters try to rotate and your totally stuck! With a front wheel drive, you can go forward till you get stuck and can always get out backing up. I will never go back to mid wheel drive.

I got a F3 in 2019, had the bracket for ezlock put on and they had to move the floor box back. YES I catch on everything, thresholds are terror now. Have to use my old C300 for places that have thresholds, of course the installer guys that put the bracket on didn't even tell me they just did move the box back and installed the bracket. Maybe you put some metal under the box to shim it up some, and that doesn't interfere with your footplates. If you find a remedy lets us all know, glad you are able to drive without that lock in "wink". I called Ezlock they seem not care about making a different bracket. Beware of catching on everything. @@briankepp6343 Hi Brian, your reply caught my eye regarding insurance and power wheelchairs (pwc). My pwc can be replaced 4/2023. The vendor who showed-up for my pwc eval back then, dictated he sells permobil but wouldn't sell me one - not enough profit. He told me my three choices; I asked if quickie qm710 were available as specialty backrest was long overdue and too much time had passed due to complications (assigned vendor went bankrupt). I had Vocational Rehab at the time who pay for the client's preference and add-ons insurance companies will not. As well, wo V.R. my current repair vendor told me that my pwc choices will be limited to quantum, invacare, sunrise medical (quickie). That quickie is sitting in the shop waiting for motors (3rd pr), batteries (3rd pr), R-net joystick (no. 3), Swing-away apparatus (no.4). Fortunate to have the old permobil c500 (2,800 mi.) and determined my next pwc is an f3 or f5. While you're familiar with the process of 'appeals' regarding pwc brand and add-ons, I'm not. Again, voc rehab helped me in the past, now I'm older and question my eligibility, but 'they' might be a resource available to you if necessary. Perhaps you could offer direction on what to expect, brand-wise, elevator, add-ons, etc. - regarding insurance paying. Thanks

I am sure I will have more comments… When attaching plastic pieces together, check out plastic rivets. Or stainless steel rivets. They are a combination clamp and fastener. They are also mostly flush and don’t catch on stuff. If you do aluminum rivets they are easy to grind flat.

Right now, I'm back in my old C300, which is still like new, luckily, because the F3 is way too heavy for my lift. I currently have it's a one-arm rated at 600lb, and I'm 230, so it looks like, for now, I will be using the C300 when I go out, which is not very often doctor app only as I'm a quad C4 anyways I joined your thing. Keep the videos coming. I love them. I come from a mechanical background, so I can tell you know what you're doing.
@TotallyNormal-2 жыл бұрын
FYI if you have a backpack or anything on your chair that swings around, it can make things unstable- gotta be firmly attached! Also going back and forth between c300 and an f3 takes some getting used to. On the f3 you have to concentrate on holding the joystick in the direction you want to go.. as opposed to the c300 where tons of small hand movements/adjustments are required. I also found that I tended to lean left or right in my c300 when steering- which kinda aided in the control. I set the tremor dampening on my indoor profile on the f3 to about 15-20% and that helped a bit as well. The tires on the f3 are ‘solid’ but have a very compliant foam inside. Nothing like the standard primo powertrax tires. (They’re Permobil aggressive tread tires from the 5 series chairs) Anyways.. hope some of this helps!

MY GOAL IS TO HAVE AN EXTRA SET OF BATTERIES OR BATTERY PACK IN IT AS WELL AS OTHER GEAR ! i am most interested in how much weight i can actually tow !!!! i also want to configure some contraption that will drive the chair in a straight line , hands free while i perform shooting my bow repeatedly at targets that are stationary or moving . i would prefer to do it electronically if possibly ,but will also consider some other type mechanically operated device , sort of an auto pilot , if you will ! lol ...... . my goal also is to build an contraption that is triangle shape that has a small side shaft gas engine with a chain and set of sprockets that turn a single tire in the back that is steerable with a long rod that circles around the front of the chair . think of a mini bike frame that the mid to back section has been cut off from front end lol . so you will have a motor ,chain and sprockets and a single tire in the back , i call it my long distance gas powered assist !!!! once you get to where you are going , you engage the electric motors to quietly move around . i imagine this would be a very awesome tool to have for your chair to be abled to go a semi far distance at 2 to 4 or more times the regular speed without having to have a real automobile or van.it would have a throttle and brake handle similar to a mini bike or motor cycle ! .i want to make it where it attaches where the basket on the back goes or some other system like a hitch maybe ? imagine for a second , how a contraption like this would be nice to have you also could have a couple of alternators to charge the batteries or outfit it with another type generator with a 110 converter that supplies the energy to use you chairs charger ? my second idea is to make a trike version that will have a side shaft mini bike motor or nicer motorcycle motor that powers a single wheel that mounted to the front of the chair that has a head light ,brake handle ,speedometer, and throttle mounted to a more comfortable double hand handlebar !!!! my only concern is , will it be good for the "free wheeling " function of the chair ?either front or rear mount would attach and un-attach real easy ! THE FRONT MODEL TRIKE VERSION WOULD ALLOW THE RIDER TO FULLY EXTEND THEIR LEGS FOWARD THAT WOULD BE PROTECT BY A FRAME WHILE ZIPPING AROUND TOWN, OR ON LONGER TRIPS !!!!!! ( SO HONESTLY ,,,,,,,, WHAT DO YOU THINK ) ???????????

I agree with a lot of the things on this vedio. Ive had my chair since 2021. I love the features but as stated a good ideal not much thought. The tires don't last me very long either as I am a very active person. I hate the plastic they could have designed them with more thought and I have very much expressed this to Permobil they are slow to service them also for the price I have been unhappy with the chair and the batteries it takes so long to get thrm replaced you really need s good back ip chair or they should loan you one just saying. Otherwise it. Would be a great chair

BTW I’ve had really good luck with the aggressive tread tires! My last set lasted almost 800 miles- and they improve the ride quality a bit as well :-) They’re made by Permobil- I just buy them myself on buildmywheelchair.com

I love my Permobil chair, but the repair company (DME) technician really messed it up. He laid it down to change the tires and now the seating is wonky and it rocks after reclining. It rattles so bad. Then one guy adjusted the torque and one side just rips up flooring and carpet. Just a mess.

Hey! My year anniversary is coming up in a few months too. I have a question. Do you know if I'd be able to get the aggressive tires put on when I have to get replacements? The stock tires are okay and I don't really take this chair out in crazy environments too often right now. I would like something a little better for the outdoors in the future though and since my stock tires are wearing after something like 1,200 miles I've put on this chair, I'm looking for other options. So glad you're making this video, I love my f3. So glad I was able to get one last year. I would even say that if it wasn't for my f3 I would not be able to live independently in the city I live in now. As soon as I got that thing my quality of life exploded, my world got so much bigger and I've now put over a thousand miles on this chair since December 2021. I have a few minor complaints here and there with the chair, but as far as wheelchairs go it's amazing. I do you have to take care of some wear and tear and I hope I can figure out how to do that without help. I think that comes with it being my only power chair and me being a very active user though. I'll be staying tuned for more f3 repair videos and looking through your archives again! Thank you for giving us so much information about our chairs. I know you've run into trouble over the years for doing it but it is something that's so needed for everyone that uses a chair.

Hey! So build my wheelchair website has the aggressive tread tires now! They’re $139 each.. so not too bad! As far as getting the DME/insurance to replace them - it depends. When i ordered my chair, they told me that I’d have to pay for tires myself in the future if I wanted to keep the aggressive tread ones. The foam compound in them seems a lot better for ride quality as well

@@TotallyNormal- thanks for the tip, I think I've seen build my wheelchair before. If I remember correctly I ordered batteries from them when my Quantum was practically eating them. Lol. Oh yeah, I don't think for a second that insurance is going to pay for this for me. I kind of figured that once these guys go too bald, I was going to just pay a little extra to keep that from happening again and give myself a little extra freedom. I'm too hard on an active in this chair to not ever expect to put a little effort and money into it once in awhile. Thank you for the tip bro, glad your f3 is working out for you too. It's my first time really getting to pick my chair and I have no regrets. It's amazing how much a permobil can improve your quality of life. I'm watching your shop class series now. Do you think there will be any more of them in the future?

@@TotallyNormal- I completely understand bro. I just finally found a stable place to live myself after being homeless and having to bounce around. I totally get how that gets in the way of a lot of things you want to do. I'm glad you're still at it man! I look forward to that video. I'm always looking for ways to avoid having to go to my DME first off I could kind of take care of on my own. I already do some of my own things on my chair but knowledge is power! Thanks Dan!

The tie downs should be on the outside of the chair

Thanks the reason that I said that the tie downs should be on the outside of the chair is so the person can get at the tie down and and see it and doesn’t hook it on something that will brake easily

New to your channel. Transitioning from cane, walker, and mobility scooter to powered wheel chair due to rare disease causing spinal cord damage and eventual paralysis from the chin down. I'm new to the whole dealing with medicaid and getting a powered wheel chair through them. Just in the very beginning of the process. Getting evaluation through my doctor next week. I've been told that they only pay 80% for the cheapest chair available. How do you get them pay for such an expensive chair? Any help would be much appreciated.
@TotallyNormal-2 жыл бұрын
hey! it all depends on your diagnosis codes - the chair in this video is a group 3.. also known as a 'rehab chair' tilt function for example is qualified by things like pressure relief etc.. recline - can be things like using catheters, positioning etc.. power legs - edema/swelling in feet/legs.. those are just some examples.. but its all about the diagnoses and associated billing codes seat lifts/elevators are almost never covered by insurance (maybe 15% of the time) but if your conditions meet the proper codes, they'll pay for a group 3 rehab chair typically without too much trouble also typically if JUST mobility is the concern, and have no pressure sore issues/positioning needs - they go for a group 2 chair.. those have a 'van seat' or some other kinda of static (non power adjustable) seating though a lot of them have manual recline levers sometimes they go for a group 2 chair if only 1 power function is needed as well medical billing and coding is a tricky thing.. ya need an ATP that knows their job very well, and can write a GOOD letter of medical necessity! but each feature needs to have a solid, matching billing code to get every line item paid for for example.. if someone just 'wants' power recline because it would be nice, but no medical billing codes can attach to it (because they cant say its medically necessary), insurance wont pay for it

@@TotallyNormal- Thank you so much! I've been trying to find this kind of advice for a couple of months now. It's exactly what I needed to know. My disease is called OPLL, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. It basically causes the ligaments next to your spinal cord to calcify and turn into bone and eventually fill up the spinal canal and crush your cord. It also grows spikes that pierce the cord. I have it in my cervical area bad. Had to have a surgery where they split open my c2-c7 vertebrae to allow room for the bone to grow away from my cord. It's in my lumbar area now. Daily life is dealing with constant pain and loss of mobility. I'm hoping a chair will help with the mobility issue. Whatever chair I get will have to have a good plush suspension on it because I'm very sensitive to anything jarring and I need something to support my head well because my neck gets tired very easily. Thanks again!
@TotallyNormal-2 жыл бұрын
BTW.. if you a have medical need for good suspension, you might be able to qualify for a group 4 chair - those have much better suspension! like permobil F5, magic mobility, and some mysystems chair. good luck with everything! its a long process... ive got a series of videos about getting a new chair.. can take anywhere from 3 months to over a year once the process gets started. just keep on top of things, and make friendly phone calls every few weeks to keep everyone moving along :^) kzbin.info/aero/PLDSsC1nZPlqlXIw7pcTeiSon67BYp9Qp6&si=EMSIkaIECMiOmarE6JChQQ things changed a lot because of the pandemic.. but should be a similar-ish process

i use a handheld GPS when i need to track stuff like that. but even those arent super accurate measuring speed below 10 mph (which is the speed of most chairs) they track distance quite well.. but not as a spedometer

I use Ride with GPS app. It's pretty accurate on speed. I like that it maps out your route you did and you can even save them. It also tracks elevation changes.

I’m not understanding what the hooks on the chair why are you concerned why you have something to raise the seat you get on the bus you raise the seat up a couple of inches you hook the chair up you lower the seat you take your right as you’re getting off the lift the seat up they had hockey when you go on your way
@TotallyNormal-10 ай бұрын
covers and light still get inadvertently ripped off by the bus operators, regardless of how tall the seat is. most other chair brands have tie down points out i the open, and easy to get to. even on older permobil chairs, the tie down hooks were WAY easier to access
