my instructor told me "You'll probably get Dave as your examiner, he's a big mirror man, so use your mirrors as much as you can. Also, try and relax, drive like you think you've already failed, just take him for a nice comfy drive through the countryside and you'll be fine" Let us all know asap....

Reminds me a bit of my motorbike test, I was told the examiner is probably gonna take you to a windy national speed limit road and he's gonna want to have a little bit of fun there so don't go too slow.

For anyone looking to take HGV Class1 this is the vlog to see. I haven't seen any others that follow a complete mock test. I was very impressed by the levels of concentration by Hayley and Frances on the job in hand. No unnecessary chit-chat. Both focused on their respective roles. I thought it was quite a smooth drive throughout, and yet, there were borderline issues that might have come down to the mood of the examiner on the day. That can be tough to take! I thought Fran's analysis at the end was really quite forensic. I'd dread to have her as an examiner when I do my training!😟 However, what this vlog does far beyond any others I've seen is how really focused you have to be to get through the course. No wonder there's such a shortage of HGV drivers!

Here I am, a bit over a year since this video went live, rewatching this one Hayley. I finally started C+E training yesterday. The test centre begin with the reversing exercise on the yard. I will then be asessed on it before going out on the open road tomorrow morning. I am comfortable going forwards and reversing, providing I am backing up at a slow pace to allow me plenty of time to correct any errors. I think I may have trouble remembering Brake Legs Air (suzies) Clip Kingpin and what the trailer checks are .. brake, mot cert, body, reflective strip, side markers, mud guards, spray supression, tyre condition, wheel nuts, rear body, rear doors, rear light clusters, rear marker lights, number plate (probably won't be on it yet), then same again down the other side as the opposite side, suzies, legs, the round thing .. There is a chance I m going to miss something. I'll have to keep this prcedure going round in my head all night I am so glad you made this video and that I can come beck to watch it, so thank you for sharing it

@Harry Mason I passed ... 2nd time though

Having watched all these vlog's , my only criticism's would be your use of mirror's at times, or lack thereof. And the failure to sometimes adequately check your blind spot. Which is something I struggled with myself . To give myself the best chance of passing, I resolved to check my mirrors before any action and to keep checking them during any manoeuvre. Which is easier said than done after years of driving my own way. Having said that, I thought the rest of your driving was excellent and I would be very surprised if you don't pass. All the best for tomorrow 🤞.

The very best of luck to you for the test Hayley. Just whisper to yourself that I passed and you have to be a far better student than I was. My instructor was having a breakdown watching me trying to get the hang of it. He even said how many Class 1 jobs are out there where you only have to go forwards haha. Even the other student said if I passed and he failed he would beat me up lol. You can clearly do it so it's just a case of controlling your nerves on the day. I'd put money on it your pass and do really well. All the best x

Had my test today after only 4 lessons 14 hours training, passed first time on the artic with only 5 minors, well in. Having watch your video where you stated you failed and now watching this I can definitely say you can pass, it all comes down to nerves. I was shitting bricks in the morning, however after the coupling and uncoupling I just thought to myself fuck it, if I fail I fail, just do my best, and I think that’s the best attitude to have when going on a test like that. At the end of the day the examiners know your going to be nervous they’re used to it, don’t be afraid to ask them a question about the directions or to confirm your going the right direction. Also they’re human, they’re there to asses if you can drive safely and to a high standard, if you freeze for a second but then fix your mistake before it’s too late they will fully understand, they deal with it on daily basis. Also I’ll admit, I had to use one shunt on the reverse, like my instructor said if you feel like you might hit a cone, done be a cunt and take a shunt. My route went from Weedon Bec test centre all the way to Northampton city centre, down the a43, a45, all the way down to the m1 and back to Weedon Bec.

@@TruckDriverHayley Perhaps you can tell her on camera so we can all see her reaction. Best of luck with the retest Hayley. Just do a running commentary in your head of the seqence of actions you’re going to carry out as you do the couple and uncouple. Don’t rush it and double check your next action. Same with the driving, just do a running commentary in your head, especially with all the pull up safes, so you get the right sequence of mirrors, signal, hand brake off etc. Just talk your way through the drive in your head like a police commentary. Hopefully it helps and keeps you focussed during the drive.

I'm not an examiner, but in my opinion this was a sound drive. Reversing was bang on too compared to day 1. Bring a pack of biscuits for the examiner and get them talking about themselves and they will feel extremely comfortable. My question that kept them talking was "what made you decide to become an examiner".. oh the waffles that came pouring out .. beats driving in silence and gives em sommat else to focus on, their favourite subject, themselves Best of luck .. don't think you'll need it though .. think of that new shiny wagon you have waiting for you
