This vlog demonstrates how tough the job can be. For wannabe Class 1&2 drivers it's quite an eye opener, especially when things go wrong. Not only having to waste time while customers crank themselves into action, but how your planned day can be derailed by breakdowns and all the waiting around and hassle that goes with it. It's certainly not a vlog offering encouragement for people to come into the industry. But yet again, Hayley shows what the job can be like, warts and all!

'Quick Tip' for Hayley and other drivers; the 'yellow volvo' struggling to pass at 5:00; I always take off the cruise control or slow my unit down by a couple of mph to facilitate the overtake, everybody wins and it avoids cars backing up and getting frustrated. Once you've flashed them back in you can get back on the limiter. Everyone's happy😊 Take every opportunity to spread goodwill and it will get passed on.👍

Had one guy going about 0.5kph faster than me and took about 5 minutes to pass. I was bursting me hole laughing. F-em, either get your truck on a normal 90kmph or go 5kmph or more faster instead of blocking lanes just to get a tiny advantage.

@@justinmason100 Agreed. I've discovered by looking at the GPS that the 90km/h I thought I was doing was infact 88km/h so it turns out I'm the bloody problem and everyone else is doing the normal 90km/h.....it's embarrassing and frustrating. I know the company wouldn't do anything if I complained about it.

Right I’ve commented on your vids before I enjoy watching them…I don’t watch any other trucking vlogs came across you by chance…Ive had my license 30 year my Family have been running wagons 80 year now…local and the continent..In time you will find it easier to reverse an artic you can get them in tighter spots then a rigid as long as you’ve got the swing…I’ve struggled more getting 8 wheel tippers onto building sites or tipping in culdesac…3 rules to reversing don’t rush don’t rush don’t rush it’s that simple don’t let anybody tell you any different you’ve passed the hardest part getting your license…You will always have places like this…if it takes 30mins and 15 shunts to get in so be it…you said you had to get someone to reverse the wagon last week I would have made you go back to that place Straight away no pissing about no pressure I would have gone with you if need be if it was one the my male or female drivers…I would never never get angry…with anyone struggling and taking there time crashed many a wagon my thing was pulling fuel tanks off getting on the Eurostar done that a few times and it’s always been because I was rushing…smashed numerous mirrors bumpers you name it I’ve smashed it ..We run loads of flagships FH16s scania 730s 770 and we give them to the Steady drivers not necessarily the best

Great job on reversing into the factory in Sheffield, as others have suggested, utilising the company entrance and yard opposite would have helped greatly, though a competent banks person would be necessary. Nice truck mimics on warning sounds 👌. Great vlog Hayley, thanks for sharing. Best regards from the Black Country. John.

Excelent insight and observation. Both HGV 1 and 2 have its quirks and problems. It's not only about size because even in a class 2 there will be places that will make you sweat for being to narrow and tight to manouver. That being said like you I too prefer class 1 altough I am more familiar with class 2. Kepp on trucking!

Another great video Hayley. If your starting to turn the wrong way in a rigid that you are slowly getting there with the artics. I wonder if going for a ride along with another class 1 driver could help you, Now you understand the basics. It could show you more about how other drivers set up for the reverse. You can learn alot by watching other people. I know I've had new drivers who have struggled come out with me for the day and they've found it helpful.

Plan it in sections get through the gate then decide if you will need to give it a shunt to get the trailer at the right angle for the approach for the final manoeuvre down to the shed. Remember slow and easy wins the race. As for traffic outside unless they are dieing for a poo they can wait

Hayley I'm only 10 years in to my HGV career and I'm still learning many things everyday. As many others have said slow and steady without killing / injuring or damaging anything or anyone is a success. You don't get paid extra if you do it any quicker but you do get a heck of a lot of paperwork and explaining to do if it goes wrong or moreover when it does. Give it time and it'll all click together and come along nicely. Don't do what a lot of my idiotic colleagues do and become dangerous because they're all to busy trying to out do each other. You get a much easier, nicer looking and more professional looking manoeuvre / driver by taking your time to get it right oh and don't be afraid to learn to blindside as its a good skill to have 👍🏻 very entertaining videos and keep up the good work.

I’ve had the licence since 09 and stopped driving trucks in 2010. It was more of a backup for me as im a mechanic. Recently got a new job in a hgv shop so dusted down the old licence. Never done much artic work and this is all trailers. Needless to say it was a shock getting back behind the wheel. Reversing, first few days forget it. You just have to be humble with yourself and let it happen. I’m getting better and try to challenge myself every day with it. I’m fortunate that I get practice shunting round the yard without the pressure. All firms should provide reversing training. Too much bravado. If you can’t do it you feel a prat.

Because you've been driving Artics wait until you go and reverse in the ridged Hayley, you have to think hard about which way to steer, want to go left and you will be steering to the right. Damn, that was a tight reverse, don't want to teach you your job, sometimes reversing into a tight spot, don't start your steer in reverse too early, it makes the opening tight, right-angling makes the opening more useable, that's providing the major road isn't too narrow. Hayley, you're doing alright, keep it up.

That’s a nightmare. Don’t worry how long it takes. In a yard like this I’d be moving a couple of feet and getting out and checking the clearance. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, how many shunts and how many times you get out, if you get in without hitting anything then it’s a good reverse. I’d be looking at doing it blindside I don’t think you’d get in with a full length trailer from the good side a city trailer yes, full size no. If you are at your wits end, have a break and calm down before continuing.

Don’t be afraid to ask. Remember..the longer the tractor/trailer combination the more forgiving they are when doing tight manoeuvres. Also. Don’t be afraid of scoring “Cool Goals” Put you shades on “Cool” Get Out And LOOK. If your on a site and not sure how much room you have on the “ blind side” When reversing …stop climb down and Cooley take walk and look down the blind side. Very soon you will instinctively know how much room you have . Good Luck!!

Your situation with that breakdown was totally unacceptable , they knew what the symptoms were the van should have had the relevant parts, the all that faffing about .......Been there done that and left operators who have handled breakdowns like that .Totally not professional..trying to cut corners and save money and the poor driver suffers
