VLOG 8 // Long Ass Mount Douglas Hike w. Lopi

This vid is shaky, you have been warned! This was recorded 2 months back while trying to get in shape. I look greasy but didn't want to shower before doing a 4 hour hike, my apologies. This is a great place to hike in Victoria, you can see the ocean and the mountains over in the US. This place is called Mount Douglas Park it's in British Columbia, Canada.

I wish I could go for hikes too but I can barely do anything because of fibromyalgia, I swear I was in shock with all the things lopi could do when I find it hard to walk!! yea i live in victoria and you should really go check out the observatory, you can get to it off west saanich road and its SO NICE at the top, amazing view and theres actually a whole bunch of buildings up there, it feels like a mountain top university campus or something, (it's the canadian national research council),really nice and easy hike up to the top, and a 360 view of victoria.

How do you live in British Columbia and not know what a wood bug/ wood louse is? I live in Nanaimo, like, an hour and a half away from Victoria, and wood bugs are everywhere. You must have some luck/anti-luck to have never spotted one :P

I've never climbed Mount Doug. I usually climb Mount Finlayson's steeper side (i slunk and weeze while my friend calls after me). Have you climbed Finlayson? Is you have how do they compair dificulty wise?

I love Scotch Broom, but it's so awful - have you seen Salt Spring lately? Yikes! Invasive plants, while pretty, do so much more than just.. spread quickly. Scotch Broom and English Ivy are two things I rip out whenever I have the chance. Different flowers provide food for different pollinators - bumblebees (34 different species in BC!), honeybees (not Native to North America and amazing creatures, but they do provide some competition for food.. especially since they're all anyone cares about), sweat bees, mason bees, native bees, miner bees, moths, butterflies, etc. They have different tongues, so have different preferred food sources for nectar, and when that is crowded out by invasive species (and us) and they aren't able to rob the plant of nectar (bite a hole in the flower) you get endangered bees (bumblebees, specifically - we have endangered bumbles). You can get a $2000 fine for vandalising/damaging a Garry Oak! Pretty rad. Also! Heeeey from Victoria. Haha. I clicked this 'cause I saw "Mount Douglas" and I thought "hey, we have a Mt Doug.." (sorry for the ramble about bees and plants. I love bumblebees and I kind of urban flower farm here in the city so I'm all about the pollinators - haha.)
