I live in Chicago land and I've had people ask me why I don't move somewhere warm, like California or Florida. I have an Uncle who lives in the desert of Yuma, AZ. Everyone's dashboards on their cars are crumbling from the intense heat that comes through the windscreen. My brother lives in Rancho de Taos, NM and my sister lives in the desert of Henderson, NV. I happen to love living in Chicago. The changing of seasons is wonderful and energizing. Trees budding, birds singing, and the scent of blossoms in the air, just can't be properly appreciated, unless you have been through a long, dark, bitter cold Chicago winter. The blue sunny skies and crisp cool fresh air of autumn here, is especially sweet after the dog days of one of our oppressive lb hot & humid summers. Plus with the wonderful Great Lakes on our doorstep, fresh sweet water is just outside our doorstep! I live in Illinois and often backpack or fish in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Minnesota or Wisconsin. It's great to be here at The Great Lakes! 😊

not sure if it would be entirely up your alley because it's kind of a more dense read, but one of the most interesting books i've ever read that touches on the witch trials in Europe and America is Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici. It's a nonfiction about the persecution of women from the witch trials to present day, and the relationship between female persecution, puritanical beliefs, and capitalism. Super interesting, but it is a more "academic" book (at least I found it to be when I read it a few years ago). I think about the concepts and comparisons in it at least monthly, if not more often.

That witchy market looks amazing. I too have gotten into the mood for witchy reads but I have so many different kinds of books to read right now so I don't know what is going on there. I think I may be picking up The Ravens sometime soon. I don't know, maybe after I read Scarecrow., an anthology edited by Rhonda Parrish which is about scarecrows (I think you should look into this editor because she has a series of anthologies about corvids, fae, sirens and more. Maybe she may even come out with a witch one) which is the next read I have lined up after The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina. I did read Toil and Trouble: 15 stories of women and witchcraft and I loved it. Not all the stories were fantastic, but most were.

I just finished The Witches of New York and thoroughly enjoyed the vibe, and the accurate representation of the teas, herbs, and spells used in the story. I read The Diviners last September and loved it. Looking forward to carrying on with the series this year. And I'm currently reading In Defense of Witches by Chollet. I'm enjoying it but it's not really about witches as much as it's about women and how being accused of or identifying with being a witch is part of how women have or do not have power in our society and how our culture keeps misogyny alive and in control.

Hello, I have been in a Rehabilitation center for 3 years, and am wondering if you have any suggestions for videos I could watch about witches (nonfiction or fiction.) The best one I have seen so far is "Suspiria." Another good one is Vincent Price in "Witchfinder General" or "The Conqueror Worm." "Three Sovereigns for Sarah" is another excellent one. But I'm always on the lookout for one I have not seen before. Have a nice day!🙂

@cityman23126 ай бұрын
@cThroughFiction Why would you want to read more which are set in worlds with no magic and which focus so much on villains like Hopkins? To read about actual witches, I can recommend The Furies by Katie Lowe - it concerns four wicked witches. They're all wicked to the core from the start and never change. Another is Morgan is My Name by Sophie Keetch. It is the beginning of a trilogy about Morgan le Fay in which she starts out as a woman of integrity. It promises to be the beginning of an epic character arc. How will she become a witch who terrorises a kingdom?

Please stop referring to artists, makers and crafters as vendors. ‘Vendor/s’ is just a industry word that has caught on. Referring to them as such ,minimizes and belittles what the actual do. A vendor could be a hot dog seller or someone at a flea market.
@AFrolicThroughFiction Жыл бұрын
They literally called themselves vendors at the event…I’ll call them what they called themselves
@dreamsep Жыл бұрын
@@AFrolicThroughFiction many are just using the term without thought, they are ignorant, new to markets. Again its a industry term not meant for consumers. Vendor just means they sell something… it doesn’t convey what they actually do, it lumps them into one big category mixing retail, vintage, flea, art, craft when those things are completely different. Many artists including myself are trying to dissuade people from using the word vendor. So just because someone hasn’t brought this to your attention before doesn’t mean its okay.
@AFrolicThroughFiction Жыл бұрын
@@dreamsep it’s also your assumption that they haven’t chosen this term themselves, and your comparison to people like “hot dog sellers” or people at markets diminishes many people/professions. Where/what people sell shouldn’t matter. You might not like the term but your argument is doing the very thing you’re trying to argue against
@dreamsep Жыл бұрын
@@AFrolicThroughFiction As an artist I know more from years personal experience that people don’t choose that term. If someone from a community (that you aren’t a part of) points out something that you are doing that isn’t beneficial and you just get defensive….Well that’s the same tendencies/behavior that’s problematic when trying to combat misogyny, bigotry and racism. Nothing against people selling hotdogs, I’m making a point that vendor could mean anything. Most people don’t wanna be lumped into a bland broad category when they’ve work hard at a skill or craft. It’s a simple request from a artist that you don’t refer to artist as vendors.
@AFrolicThroughFiction Жыл бұрын
I’m more than happy to take feedback, I’m just pointing out that your arguments are based on a lot of assumptions. These vendors aren’t necessarily the artists creating the products, and as a general rule I will use whatever term people choose to identify themselves as as long as it isn’t wildly problematic/is suitable.
