This was for chanting use. in your video 8.49min you can heard the sound of knock knock knock that it was, It's make by wood. got bigger want n smaller want. bigger want for inside the temple use only, smaller want can bring out anywhere 😊in Chinese we call it (木鱼)

Without pictures from other angles, I'm gonna guess it's a wooden fish along with its wooden hammer/gavel thing, similar to what people are holding and knocking around 8:40 to generate the rythms. Of course theirs were much smaller. Wooden fish is widely used in buddhist and daoist functions and ceremonies.
