I received my funeral director and embalmer license last week and I’ve been working in the family funeral home for 2 years now. I really enjoy your videos and relate so much to what you go through on a daily basis. Great to see others who are passionate for funeral service. Keep up the great work!!

I had seriously considered the funeral business. I too did a tour/visit of a funeral home embalming. The coolest part was in New Haven CT at the historic Beecher and Bennett ( now repurposed) location from the 1800s. They showed me the cold storage! There was a massive crypt room like the catacombs in brick that before pneumatic drills and backhoes they would store remains until the spring thaw when they could hand dig the grave. Pretty cool that they saved the room for history.

I absolutely love the passion you have for this field and how you have a smile on your face despite all of the craziness you go through in a day’s time. I look forward to all of your vlogs whenever one is posted. I have learned quite a lot from you Lauren. Tomorrow, I start at a family owned funeral home in Chicago, and am hoping to start mortuary school in the next year or so hoping that everything goes well with this position. Keep that passion alive, and I’m looking forward to seeing your next vlog! Take care, all the best!

@@LittleMissFuneral Have you ever had a body sit up in the casket ? I had a friend who worked for a funeral home when he was in college (unfortunately he had a bad heart and is now deceased ). He was helping the director put the person in the casket. They turned away from the casket for a minute and when they turned back around -the person was sitting up in the casket.

Thanks for the video. I was having a very rough morning, and it's hard to not smile at your upbeat demeanor and smile. I lost a parvo puppy this morning that was brought to me from a family. I did everything I could and bottle fed him and he got vet care and all his medicine.....and I still lost him. Made me so upset. So this did make me smile. And thanks again for all that you did for me. I'm doing somewhat better. I've started playing the piano or organ for viewings and funerals and it means so much to me to be able to help people in their difficult time and hope the music I play provides comfort to them. And thank you again for all that you do for families and your kind spirit.

Need some advice from you. I would love to start my journey in the funeral business. My grandfather had a funeral home years ago that they have sold. I’m curious to know how to go about getting my foot into a funeral home to see if it something I can definitely handle before going to school. I do have a associates degree in allied health as well as medical assistant license.
@LittleMissFuneral6 жыл бұрын
Jessica Zerilla I would try to call a couple of local funeral homes in your area and explain your situation to them! They may be open to having you come and shadow them for a few days. It can sometimes be hard to get a job at smaller firms because of the amount of calls that they do, but to be able to have someone follow you around to see if the job is for them or not is different. I had a cousin who had a friend who was a friend of a funeral director. She gave me his number and I called him and explained my situation to him and he agreed to meet me to talk about the funeral business. At the end of that meeting he did offer me a job so you never know! Just put yourself out there and do not lose hope

Lauren, quick question. On average, how long does a catholic funeral mass last? I am Baptist, have obviously been to the traditional Christian funeral and I have been to a Mormon funeral which was a little different. I know I will have a Catholic funeral coming up in a few years. Thanks! Drew

"Naked face Lauren" is very beautiful... Inside and out.. I enjoy your vlogs so much.. I went to college when my 3 kids started going to college.. also, live in southern IL, very economically oppressive, not a lot of education and good jobs are a pipe dream. Just a little background.. I graduated Magna Cum Lade w a BS in Mortuary Science. After sending out resumes 4 times, several interviews but still no job. I graduated in 2011. After about 4yrs I basically have up on my dream. I'm very good in the lab, very good at restoration.. you're living the life I had imagined! I'm so happy for you and you are super cool!!! 😃 Keep up the great work.. it is a crazy job but you are kicking it, girl!!! I believe this job is a "calling", not many people can do it for various reasons. Angel of mercy when a family is in a crisis. I haven't been willing to move away because this is "home central" for my 3 grown children and grandchildren.. my family is my priority but the disappointment is sometimes hard to handle.. I feel useless because I have such a passion for this job. Just met the owner of a FH way out in the boonies where I now live, and let them know I'm available for night calls, cleaning, whatever. I'm praying that God's will be done in this matter.. I don't want to be in a place/job without feeling it's God's direction because life experience has taught me that it's miserable being in the "wrong" place. (If you get what I mean) A major reason I believe I haven't been hired is my age.. which is one of the things on the list that people are not supposed to discriminate against, but they surely do. (no self pity, just speaking from my heart) I just turned 60 in December but I still chop wood to heat my little house. Guess I'm not an "average" 60yr old! Haha It's just great to come across someone who has the same heart for this service as I do.. it's refreshing! 🙃 Bless you!!! ❤️

From my experience either the Hospital advise against it or the Funeral Director if they think it will be too traumatic for the Family. They can also arrange for someone to be with you if you really want to see your loved one. Years ago a friend commited Suicide and I was advised not to see him as he died on a Live Railway Line. Always best to take the advise as they know what they are talking about and it can even get to those who work in this line every day!

Ann Jutz no I have a trade embalmer who will do 98% of the transfers and all of the embalmings at the funeral home where I currently work. I left a funeral home 5 years ago where I did it all and started working at this current funeral home where I just do “up front” work. I still do a lot of cosmetic work but thankfully I have help with the “back room” stuff!

So at the beginning of the video you said about having no makeup on and etc. I think it's good. You work so hard at your job and maybe that's why people don't take funeral directors seriously or complain about things as such. You always look your best (yes that's great) but you up a mask on all the time (yeah it's great for a family that have a lost one and for them to cope) but most of the time you are a slave (not saying you hate your job) but sometimes people need to understand that you are always working and this happens. I am going to become a embalmer/ funeral director right now I'm starting school. If I'm tired and I can't feel to put on makeup etc to look my best because I just help 7 different family's plus other stuff I think they can get over it. I'm not a robot I'm a person.

@LittleMissFuneral6 жыл бұрын
Todd Bitsilly don’t burn yourself out! Removal jobs can sometimes be difficult, but hopefully your employer has some kind of scheduling (every other weekend off or something like that.) You’ll do great! Just stay positive, get experience and remember what you’re going to be doing is just a small part of the industry so if it’s not for you don’t get discouraged!
@scrapper9006 жыл бұрын
I was just wondering if there has been any deaths that have really gotten to you and you were not able to participate in the funeral? I have lost half of my family in the last 4 years and it’s been hell. I think that I would love to be supportive to other family’s going through the loss of a loved one but I would probably lose it and be an emotional wreck! Especially if it was a young child.

I usually don't scroll through the comments, so I don't know if it's been asked. Are you able to do a walk through of the funeral home you work in or is that not permitted by the owner?
@LittleMissFuneral6 жыл бұрын
David Grub the owner unfortunately would not allow me to do a walk through of the funeral home. That’s why every time I vlog I try to just show a wall instead of a more detailed background. Also, even though I do these “day in my life” vlogs, Little Miss Funeral isn’t associated with my employer so that’s why I don’t mention the name of the funeral home.

I figured that was the case. Thanks for the reply. Really enjoy your videos.
