I love love love LOVE the vlogs you have been doing lately. I am trying to soak up as much information as I possibly can before entering school for mortuary science and even though every funeral home is different, I love being able to see and hear your perspective and what your days are like! I really appreciate you putting your life out there the way that you do.

Markie Payton good luck with mortuary school! You hit the nail on the head, every funeral home is different, but one thing that is the same is that our days are always unpredictable and ever changing!

Lauren, I love your vlogs. You are so so compassionate which is so important. My beautiful Nan’s undertaker was sooo lovely just like you but when my gramps died 4 years later - 2 year anniversary of when he died tomorrow 😢 we felt this lady could not have cared less. She literally said “He’s in there.” No compassion what so ever. It really effected me greatly. God bless your compassion. You are amazing.

I would call the videos enlightening. My mom, stepdad, and uncle are all in their 70s. Someday - hopefully not for a decade or two, but someday I'll probably be dealing with their funerals, and I find all of these deathling videos enlightening and empowering. Thanks to the three of you that I follow, I am confident that I'll be prepared for the arrangements side of things when the inevitable happens. Thank you.

I think the vlogs you do are awesome! Even if you're just running around to various coffee shops and doing paper work, it's still really great to get an idea of what your average day looks like. Especially for those who are going into funeral service as a career, it's nice to get a glimpse into what our futures might hold. Thank you for working hard to make these videos!

I'm obsessed with this profession and last year I met a mortician that I totally have a crush on...and when I watch these videos I get a glimpse into his work life, a life I didn't realize was so hectic and busy. I like to watch your videos along with some other ladies instead of bothering him with all my funeral director questions. I may eventually take up mortuary science but I still have some heby jebez to get over first.

I picked up the deceased for Chicago PD for 4 years. I would do 48 hour shifts and we could pick up 20-30 bodies in that time (my crew alone). It’s different than what you do because I would go to the scene of murders and whatnot but some hospitals too. I bagged and tagged them and brought them to our morgue. People dealing with death is a hard time for them. I loved my job and people who can work with the deceased is def a taboo job to the general public. I had to leave my job due to it hurting my back and elbows. There was only two of us picking up said body at any time.

BodySnatcher Colleen in my area, there is always a funeral home that has the medical examiner contract. Basically, that funeral firm picks up all of those cases that you were talking about. When I was 21, the funeral firm where I worked almost got that contract and I was so thankful we actually didn’t. I had to stop embalming about five years ago for the same reasons, I started to have back problems. Dead weight is exactly what it sounds like! You did important work, thank you for that, but remember we have to take care of ourselves first and foremost! There’s nothing wrong with putting your health above your job.

I work for a national cemetery and the COVID thing has thrown us into a loop. We are experiencing a record number of interments. We cannot keep up. The Funeral directors in the area I live are actually turning away families. The burial vault companies cannot make enough vaults and some might be on back order.

I really enjoy the “behind the curtain” messages you post. I am a licensed Funeral Director/ Embalmer, so I have a little advice... 1. Always remember that you are a funeral director, because the bereaved need direction! Set a specific time for appointments, like 12:45, if you say between 12:30-1, they will always be late! 2. If you had 4 calls overnight, why are you rolling in at 9:20am. You should have been in office at 8, to meet with the first family at 9:45.

About how long does a body stay in the funeral home waiting on burial? I’m wondering because I couldn’t help think about you being in there by yourself with your clients/patients...
@LittleMissFuneral6 жыл бұрын
Nikki Schar it all depends! I’ve had a deceased that was held at the funeral home for close to two weeks as we waited for the family to come in from out of town. On average, I would say from the date of death to the date of burial we probably wait about 2-3 days, but it can be shorter or longer depending on the family and their wishes. If we have paperwork completed, we can sometimes perform a cremation the same day a person dies. Every case is different!
@StairsHomestead5 жыл бұрын
I am currently throwing aroind the idea of gaining my funeral directors/embalmers degree and was wondering if you still embalm or if ypu only did that at the first location you worked at? Also, how many funerals a week do you usually work on, for this job and your first one? I know its deffinitely different from week to week but just an idea. I love to stay busy and I'm not the greatest with office work but i do love helping people and making their needs be met in a time of need. Nirsing i just don't think is for me but i absolutely love anatomy and find that sort of science very intriguing and I'm a perfectionist with what i do in my jobs so i feel like this could be a good job mach for me. Even if it is seen as taboo. Thank you and i hope to be able to get a reaponse. If not i understand.
