My grandfather suddenly passed before Christmas. So I know the feeling. Thankfully I've been home since the end of August due to an injury onboard a ship. Ok not thankful that I injured myself but glad I was home for the holidays and the funeral.

December 2021 I lost my papa. Missed his services due to having Covid, and last year December I lost my grandma and it’s been hard, don’t rush your grief and know that shenanigans my service dog are sending so much love to you all! Leave it to a grand parent to ensure the family gathers during the holidays. Maternal grandfather did it passing on Dec 15th, but paternal grandmother top that 15 years later as she went home on Christmas morning. Sorry for the sadness, but you will always have her in your heart. Take a small favorite picture of her, put it in a nice frame, and pack it away with the Christmas tree ornaments and hang it each year in remberance.
