Definitely quieter than the helmet you had on in the last video with the cb500! Atleast it seems i can hear mic more clearly. Also I swear that mall you guys were at is same mall was on news last summer they had to evacuate due to a shooting, iam almost certain of it!

Yep, that's the Galleria Mall, where nothing good happens anymore. That whole area (including the mall) has been a sh*tshow for over a decade, and it's just getting worse. I used to go there to eat at a couple of restaurants, but I won't even step foot in that mall anymore. 😒 --QM

Howdy, James! We got lucky in that big storm last week. We had lots of straight-line winds (80+ mph) and heavy rain, but the majority of the storm's wrath just barely missed us. The path of destruction started about 2 miles northeast of us and continued east through the city. Our power dropped out several times, but it wasn't offline for more than 5-10 minutes. Nearly 1M other Houston residents weren't as lucky... nearly 200K are still without power today (4 days later). 😲 --QM

Thanks for the support, Tim! I'm still healing and struggling with a lot of neck, shoulder, lower back, and leg pain... but I'm coping with it. The Rebel 1100 isn't friendly to my physical situation right now, so that's why the CB500X was pulled out of mothballs and renovated. It has a more upright seating position and doesn't irritate my neck and back as much. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

43:10 they really need to remove those trees thats in the middle of the two roads. You can barely see oncoming traffic when you wanna turn left,and i bet people like to speed thru that road.

Quasi ,do you feel at all gun shy since you're wreck...??.. Traffic is pretty hectic in your area..
@QuasiMotard6 ай бұрын
🎯 I'm not "gunshy" per-se, but I'm definitely more anxious and cautious in heavy traffic now. You should see some of the crazy sh*t that I cut out of these videos (check my @QuasiRAW channel for some of that action). It's very rare for me to have a commute day with less than 2-3 close calls with oblivious cagers. There are just too many people in Houston, and they're almost ALWAYS on their damned mobile phones while driving. 🤦♂️ --QM

Is the limit "good signal" length still 300 ft with Cat6 cable? That's what it was 30 years ago.
@QuasiMotard6 ай бұрын
Yep, it's still the same for the lower-end of the speed range. CAT-6/6A/7 cable can push 1Gbps reliably at 100 meters (328 ft), but higher speeds (10Gbps and 2.5Gbps) are limited to 55 meters (180 ft). If you're also powering PoE+/++ devices at the other end, then distance becomes more critical because of voltage drop. 😉👍 --QM

What is your overlay? How do you safely communicate with viewers?
@QuasiMotard5 ай бұрын
The telemetry data for the HUD is recorded by my GoPro Hero11 camera (and my Garmin Zumo GPS when I'm riding with it). The gauge overlay is generated using a third-party program called Telemetry Overlay: goprotelemetryextractor.com/ . I stitch everything together with Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos. Creating the overlays is a lot of extra work, but I think the end results are worth the effort. I'm not sure if I understand your question about "safely communicate with viewers". While I'm riding in a group, I use the Cardo PackTalk communicators to talk with other riders in real-time. My GoPro and other audio equipment capture the group communications during some of those rides. Otherwise, I address viewers' questions and responses later when I edit the videos. Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll be glad to share! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard oh, I meant that it seems like you’re communicating with commenters on your stream, so I wondered how you did that safely. It just seemed like you were doing it live! I’m not planning on doing this officially, but I loved the idea of streaming for my long distance rides because sometimes I do get lonely! Haha

Aren't you allowed to filter in Texas?
@QuasiMotard6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, it has never been "legal" here in Texas. We've done it in the gray area for decades, and there has been legislation proposed several times to legalize it, but it never went through. The law was changed on 9/1/2023 to officially ban lane filtering and splitting in Texas. So, that's one more defeat for riders and another boneheaded law that makes motorcycling more dangerous in The Land of Reckless Speeding Cagers. 😒 --QM

Don't they make a speedo healer that will adjust your speed?
@QuasiMotard6 ай бұрын
I'm sure there are several speedo healers that would work (e.g., HealTech). I'm not keen on the chain/sprocket wear-leveling issue that I discussed at 36:08 ... that's a sure-fire way to reduce chain and sprocket life by 15-20% or worse. I could mitigate that by dropping 1-2 teeth on the rear sprocket, but that's a trial-and-error exercise... trying to keep the engine's sweet spot and efficiency envelope within the riding parameters. I'll give this a 3300-mile torture test up to Maryland and back, then I'll make my decision whether to keep it or make more changes. 😉👍 --QM

Spedo Healer?
@QuasiMotard6 ай бұрын
A "speedometer healer" (technically, a speed/pulse conversion computer) intercepts the speed pickup from the ABS ring or countershaft sensor on modern motorcycles. It allows you to recalibrate your speedometer for different size tires or gear ratios that would otherwise skew the speedometer readings. HealTech Electronics produces a very high-quality unit: www.healtech-electronics.com/products/sh/ . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@QuasiMotard3 ай бұрын
I'm unsure where you got your top speed info about these bikes, but you're absolutely mistaken. This CB500X will routinely top 105-110 mph if pressed hard. I've had it up to a GPS-verified 121 mph on a slight downhill stretch in the mountains of North Virginia after this 16T front sprocket upgrade. The other variants of this bike (CB500F, CBR500R) are a bit faster because they have less aerodynamic drag. --QM
