Hey there Quasi, Yep 2 weeks out - Oh Crap!!! Pretty much got everything either buckled, strapped or duct taped down to the Forza for the SCBR. Now just taking it out for the long rides and getting my head straight for this thing I hope that i can meet up with you guys on either the 16th or 17th. Either outside 29Palns or San Clemente. Thanks for the inspiration Quasi! Be safe

Always good to ride-with the Super Cub! Overlays add to my entertainment (engineering brain). I'm really looking forward to your Cannonball! [A few weeks ago upped to Yoshimura exhaust, YSS shocks and bumped a tooth up on rear sprocket - to help getting up backroad hills in OK and AR. Top speed not an issue for me and actually hasn't changed, though the boost between 30-45 is significant. Looks like I'm adding a Grom this weekend.]

Speaking of thunderstorms, wish we'd get a storm or two here in Detroit. It's been hot and dry for quite some time. But the storms explains why your lawn was looking pretty darn green as you pulled out of your driveway. 👍
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
I've been babysitting the lawn more this year than in previous years. We had a bunch of the front yard dug up last fall to replace a bad city water line, so that needed more attention to regrow the sod. We've also been infested with chiggers and fleas this season, so I've been treating the yard every 2 weeks to eradicate the pests. 😉👍 --QM

I’ve been working on catch up 2018 PCX SCBR prep. Today I removed the plastics, changed my coolant, brake fluid, and engine oil. I still need to plumb in and Aux fuel tank, work on the clutch, and figure out how to pack everything else including two tires. I feel you Aaron. The struggle is real!
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
I was considering a custom 3-4 gallon fuel cell to fit into the step-thru tunnel area. My idea was to have it seal directly onto the fuel fill nozzle on top of the main tank, then have a racing aircraft-type filler on top of the aux tank. That would let me fill from the upper tank, and that would just feed the main tank below. It would retain the original fuel sender and nothing extra would be needed (except maybe a fuel petcock or emergency shut off to prevent runaway leaks from the top tank). The rub with that whole plan is that the tank would need to be custom fabricated. It would also need reinforced frame mounts that attach through to the lower floorboard supports and something triangulating forward into the front plastics below the steering stem. 18-20 lbs of volatile fuel bouncing and sloshing around near my balls calls for some safety consideration. 🤣👍 --QM

Would you suggest the Honda Trail 125 for a cannonball? I have never done one but I have been hooked to the idea of doing one from the day I learned of this events existence.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
Yes, the CT125 is a decent choice for the Scooter Cannonball. I considered taking my Trail 125 on the 2023 Cannonball, but I was already set on riding my 2015 PCX150. There were several other CT125's that ran this year and completed the event without any problems. The only potential downsides are the tubed tires (flats are harder to repair if/when they happen), and the CT's relatively low top speed of 55-ish MPH. Otherwise, they are very reliable and can handle the off-road sections with ease. We'll be doing it again in 2025, so we hope to see you there! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Thanks for the feedback! I try to give a first-person experience in the videos so viewers get that "in the seat" perspective of riding. My SherpaX trailer is road-ready, but I didn't have time to coordinate with KipMoto to build a new hitch (hoop) to fit the PCX150 for this trip. The owner, Joel, has been very busy lately, so we just ran out of time to get it done. So, I'll be shoving all of my stuff under the scooter's seat, into my SHAD SH33 top box, and strapping down the DrySpec D38 drybag on the back seat. I'm not sure how I'll carry my spare tires, but I'll sort that out somehow. I hoped to contract a local fabricator to build a carrier bracket on the right side of the scoot, but that's probably not going to happen this late in the game. We'll see! 😉👍 --QM

Most of my accessories for the Super Cub have been purchased from Webike in Japan: japan.webike.net A few of the other bits are custom fabricated, kike the center fuel tank and rack. Everything else for my cross-country touring is from resellers in the USA l, like the DrySpec rollback and panniers. I'll try to find one of my videos that has all of the product links and forward that link to you.

That tank is one of only two "Neil tanks" in existence! I have one on my Cub, and a friend of mine, Adrian, has the other one. Our buddy, Neil, custom fabricated those tanks and mounting cradles for us before we left on our 10K-mile cross-country trip for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run. They hold about 1.3 gallons of fuel, but they aren't plumbed into the main fuel supply. We used them as emergency fuel supplies and as transfer tanks during our extended road trip. You can see it in action here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIrNnolte9Z_ha8 . The telemetry data for the heads-up display is recorded by my GoPro Hero11 camera (and my Garmin Zumo GPS when I'm riding with it). The gauge overlay is generated using a third-party program called Telemetry Overlay: goprotelemetryextractor.com/ I stitch everything together with Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos. Creating the overlays is a lot of extra work, but I think the end results are worth the effort. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

How would the super cub be for a first bike? Or navi?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
Howdy, Zach! Either the Super Cub or the Navi would be superb first bikes for most people. The decision depends on whether you want to shift gears or just twist-and-go. The Super Cub is technically a small motorcycle, and you shift through its semi-automatic 4-speed gearbox using the heel-toe shift lever. The Navi is a scooter that thinks it's a motorcycle... CVT belt-drive transmission, so it's twist-and-go without any shifting. Objectively, the Super Cub is the better machine due to the fuel injection, more power, better handling, better brakes, etc. The Navi is less expensive and works great as a local run-around tool, but its range is limited compared to the other mini-motos due to its small fuel tank and relatively poor fuel economy. I thoroughly enjoy both machines, but the Super Cub is the more capable machine. Expectation management is the next hurdle for most first-time motorcycle buyers. If you're looking for a do-it-all machine, then mini-motos might not suit your riding style or needs. They are physically smaller than other bikes, and their capabilities are limited for speed and comfort. Many people buy mini-motos for their ease of use and then realize they need something more capable (or don't like the small bike dimensions/comfort). If you need to commute on the highways, or you intend to ride farther/faster than is comfortable on mini-motos (e.g., 55+ mph sustained for long periods), then a mid-sized motorcycle like a Honda CB300R, Rebel 300/500, or CB500X would be more capable overall. The Honda ADV150 (or upcoming ADV160), PCX160, and other 150-class scooters are also great first bikes and commuting tools. Many experienced riders add those smaller bikes/scoots to their garage for run-around chores and keep their bigger bikes for faster/longer highway trips. Good luck shopping, and I hope you find something that works for you! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Have a important question.. Just acquired my 2020 super cub that was a dealer model with only 500 miles. I took it on the road and the engine produces a very high vibration through the chassis at 70 kph or higher.. At less speed its perfect.. Did that happen to yours?? Some say the engine is not broken in....What would you recommend???
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry too much about the vibrations and harmonics on the Super Cub. These little thumpers (single-cylinder engines) aren't sewing machine smooth... some vibrations and harmonics are to be expected. I have used and abused my little Cub for 15K+ miles (24K+ km's) over USA highways and back roads, and it's still going strong! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Otherwise, my Super Cub is completely stock mechanically. Those two upgrades helps it to cruise at 55-60 easier, and the top speed is a drag-limited 71-72 mph under ideal circumstances ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGqvZ3uhZdCCb5I ). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

The official weight limit specified in the USA model's owner's manual is 234 pounds. However, these bikes are legendary in most Asian countries for carring entire families, mobile food trucks, and a small herd of livestock onboard (probably in excess of 400 lbs). Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Ergonomics play as big of a role as rider expectations when it comes to these mini-motos and scooters. I own tons of bikes and scoots, ranging in size from 50cc to 1100cc, so I don't expect any one bike/scoot to fill all roles and riding modes. Even though I've forced my little Super Cub into cross-country touring duty, it's more at home on surface streets and toodling along at 40-50 mph on rural roads. 😉👍 --QM
