The pandemic and the loss of my son- my only child - in December led me to start watching You Tubes- found Cassandra and then happened upon your channel. You are my very favorite- you have no idea how much you have brightened my life as I struggle with this loss. Thank you. p.s Complimentary colonoscopy would be a very good example of why you are my favorite!

When someone tailgates me, I'd rather not have an accident, so I allow them to pass me if I can. I just pull over with my hazards and let them go. You never know who's crazy with road rage/gun, or perhaps normally they are good people, but they have an unusual emergency.

The French press is the ONLY way I make cold brew coffee. The grounds need to be as coarse as you can get them so it doesn't over extract or leave silt in your cup. I add the grounds first, then pour in cool, filtered water. Stir, then put the press on top but leave the plunger up. I let it steep for 8-12 hours either at room temp or in the fridge. I love cold brew so much I have to be careful I don't drink too much of it! :D For your tea kettle, add half water and half white vinegar, bring it to a boil then let it sit to cool down for a good hour or 2. Then rinse, rinse, rinse. :)

Great tip for readers about descaling. Personally I no longer use a tea kettle because the process of descaling them is time consuming. I simply purchased a regular small pot that has somewhat of a pour spout on the rim that also came with a lid that can be used to filter what you are pouring out. I don't use the lid, and I never use the pot for anything but boiling water. I can stick it in the dishwasher when it needs to be cleaned. Tea kettles are pretty though and if you happen to have a wood burning or pellet stove in your home for cold winters you can humidify your home by simply filling the kettle and putting it on top.

I purchased a Bodum Bean iced coffee press last Christmas, which has a press built in to the lid. It does a great job of keeping the grounds out of the iced coffee and is quite inexpensive-around $15.
@helpfulnatural

@@sheriesanford260 It's true, far less acid in cold brew because cold water brewing doesn't extract the tannins that boiling water does. This is also why it tastes so much smoother. :)

YAY for libraries!!! Have loved them all my life. We moved around constantly as an Army family, and my gauge for determining whether a new town was any good was how many books you could check out at once from the local library. Both responses are necessary for these SMUGLY AGGRAVATING BEHAVIORS by equally ignorant, inconsiderate and idiotic people who have been shopping and driving for half a century but yet still either do not know or refuse to believe in returning carts and that the left-most lane is the fast or passing lane!!!

I don't know if you'll see this but yes, you can make cold brew with a french press, however I don't like the way it comes out. I am also not the biggest cold brew fan, but I've found the best method for my taste is the following: put 4oz of course ground coffee in a cold brew bag leaving room and tie (I find it gets to acidic and overextracted without the bag), fill a half gallon pitcher to the half gallon line (or adjust the for whatever size you want to make) with room temperature water, I keep it submerged with a chopstick, and let it sit on the counter for 24 hours. This is a 1:1 concentrate but I like to put some oat milk in it and I like the strength it comes out so ymmv. I'd give it a go with the french press though, you have nothing to lose except some coffee grounds. Just don't let it sit in the fridge to extract, must be room temp! Also, get a burr coffee grinder! I'm not trying to be a coffee snob here, but it makes such a difference and I think it will really make you happy.

Cold brew is great! It becomes a concentration of coffee, dilute it! I use 1/8 to 1/4 cup of concentrated cold brew to the rest hot water. Delicious!! You can make a large amount and freeze, so you have back up! Best coffee for me. Cuts out about 70% of the acid that comes from drip brewed coffee.

you can definitely do cold brew in a french press! it's just something you have to do way ahead of time; i'd say at least 16 hours. make sure all the grounds are submerged properly by pressing them down a little with the plunger. some people do a secondary filtration for fine sediment but you might not find that necessary.

That is a great idea to use the french press for cold brew! And yes that would work marvelously! You can tailor the strength of the cold brew by how much coffee you put in/how long it sits (i usually do 24 hours but overnight works) It usually is more concentrated on its own so it mellows out with ice and my personal favs oat and soy milk and a dash of simple syrup. keep us updated on your results!

Coffee is my obsession, too. It's #1 on my emergency list - it gets packed before the candles, matches, space blanket, etc. I bought a gas stove so I can brew it in case of a power outage. Instant sticks are in my glove box. I've tried it every which way. Right now, I'm using a Sunbeam percolator from 1956 that I got on eBay, (never used!). Fits right in with my retro kitchen. Don't scream! A percolator makes pour over coffee so easily. It's heaven. No kidding. Cheers ☕

I love dark short nails and always get a dark gel polish on my acrylic nails. Yours look great. I have dark blue on mine right now! I do go to the salon and my nails last over 3 weeks with never any chips.

You can make cold brew concentrate in a french press. I used to do it pretty frequently. It does require more coffee grounds than hot coffee, but you will want to water down the concentrate to taste anyway.

Yes, you can make cold brew with a French press! Room temp water steeped with coffee then filtered or strained out is exactly how I make cold brew.

ooh i due the same thing with my nails! i gave up trying to perfect them so i let the heat of the shower do the work. I think you would look so cute in pastel nail polish! but the black looks good as well. Maybe a dark eggplant purple would really compliment your cool skin tone. i get my nail polish from olive and june and it dries fairly quickly and hasn't chipped yet (its been a week)

I used to use a french press for cold brew, but graduated to the Mizudashi by Hario. Cleanup is easy breezy. And it's cute. I heat up cold brew on the stove when I want hot.

You can absolutely make cold brew in a French press :) I would suggest looking up some recipes for ratios of water to coffee and for brew time, as correct extraction makes the coffee go from meh to fantastic

No better way to start my day than with a Dr. Dray vlog when we make our coffee at the same time! Like you, I also can't drink cold brew because I drink it way too fast, but especially now, because the mornings are so cold up in Canada! Winter is coming!!!
