The French press is the ONLY way I make cold brew coffee. The grounds need to be as coarse as you can get them so it doesn't over extract or leave silt in your cup. I add the grounds first, then pour in cool, filtered water. Stir, then put the press on top but leave the plunger up. I let it steep for 8-12 hours either at room temp or in the fridge. I love cold brew so much I have to be careful I don't drink too much of it! :D For your tea kettle, add half water and half white vinegar, bring it to a boil then let it sit to cool down for a good hour or 2. Then rinse, rinse, rinse. :)
@killamoosdraree7303 жыл бұрын
Great tip for readers about descaling. Personally I no longer use a tea kettle because the process of descaling them is time consuming. I simply purchased a regular small pot that has somewhat of a pour spout on the rim that also came with a lid that can be used to filter what you are pouring out. I don't use the lid, and I never use the pot for anything but boiling water. I can stick it in the dishwasher when it needs to be cleaned. Tea kettles are pretty though and if you happen to have a wood burning or pellet stove in your home for cold winters you can humidify your home by simply filling the kettle and putting it on top.

On the contrary, as someone who (rarely) tailgates both as signal and PUNISHMENT for your BAD-SLOW DRIVING & INCONSIDERATION, I'm actually the one who puts carts left by OTHER people into their proper place. Both responses are necessary for these SMUGLY AGGRAVATING BEHAVIORS by equally ignorant, inconsiderate and idiotic people who have been shopping and driving for half a century but yet still either do not know or refuse to believe in returning carts and that the left-most lane is the fast or passing lane!!!

I don't know if you'll see this but yes, you can make cold brew with a french press, however I don't like the way it comes out. I am also not the biggest cold brew fan, but I've found the best method for my taste is the following: put 4oz of course ground coffee in a cold brew bag leaving room and tie (I find it gets to acidic and overextracted without the bag), fill a half gallon pitcher to the half gallon line (or adjust the for whatever size you want to make) with room temperature water, I keep it submerged with a chopstick, and let it sit on the counter for 24 hours. This is a 1:1 concentrate but I like to put some oat milk in it and I like the strength it comes out so ymmv. I'd give it a go with the french press though, you have nothing to lose except some coffee grounds. Just don't let it sit in the fridge to extract, must be room temp! Also, get a burr coffee grinder! I'm not trying to be a coffee snob here, but it makes such a difference and I think it will really make you happy.

Cold brew is great! It becomes a concentration of coffee, dilute it! I use 1/8 to 1/4 cup of concentrated cold brew to the rest hot water. Delicious!! You can make a large amount and freeze, so you have back up! Best coffee for me. Cuts out about 70% of the acid that comes from drip brewed coffee.

you can definitely do cold brew in a french press! it's just something you have to do way ahead of time; i'd say at least 16 hours. make sure all the grounds are submerged properly by pressing them down a little with the plunger. some people do a secondary filtration for fine sediment but you might not find that necessary.

You can absolutely make cold brew in a French press :) I would suggest looking up some recipes for ratios of water to coffee and for brew time, as correct extraction makes the coffee go from meh to fantastic

No better way to start my day than with a Dr. Dray vlog when we make our coffee at the same time! Like you, I also can't drink cold brew because I drink it way too fast, but especially now, because the mornings are so cold up in Canada! Winter is coming!!!

Yes, The French Press is a great way of making cold brew. I do it often. I do it the same as a person below me.

I don’t love black but they look good on you. Have you done the color wheel test to find your perfect colors? I have not.
