I’m just being honest, I’m 38 and have always taken really good care of my skin starting at age 23. I use to get Botox but stopped. This is what I use and it works for me: 1.) healthy diet, full of protein (grass fed meat, butter) healthy fats, antioxidants 2.) exercise. I walk 30-45 mins about 5 days a week and toning exercises at home. I sometimes do hot yoga classes. 3) I use tretinoin and vitamin c. 4) I don’t tan and I use mineral sunscreen. 5) I don’t smoke anything lol and I don’t drink. 6) Supplements. I do drink collagen peptides in my coffee every morning, Nutrafol and ashwaganda. So a question - collagen supplementation has been shown to (in weaker studies but nonetheless) to promote wound healing in burn victims and elderly in nursing homes. Now, those studies compared to no intervention, when it would’ve been more interesting to compare to equal amounts of complete proteins, because we do know that good nutrition as a whole leads to wound healing, and protein calories malnutrition in particular hinders this process. It’s why surgeons love TPN so much despite it being sepsis in a bag. That said, do you know if there is any data of a high protein diet leading to improved skin from an aging standpoint, not the fancy collagens (hydrolyzed or whatever they advertise), but overall high protein diet of complete protein sources? Love your videos. You’re so good at educating people about skin care. I got my mom watching you and she recently bought your major fade moisturizer, and is in love. I’m planning to get it once I use up my current stuff.
@emilyb55576 ай бұрын
Sepsis in a bag 😅 what a phrase. Nursing home residents often are pretty malnourished and Burns victims are loosing extra protein if they have large wounds so often have low albumin. So I'm guessing both benefit from any amino acid source.

Dr. Idriss, in my opinion, taking collagen WITH BEEF OR LAMB in the diet has made my skin beautiful. I decided to take photos and stop taking the collagen and the broths/foods and my skin just looked sad after stopping it. The other thing is hydration, obviously. I also consume a lot of lemon, eggs etc. So imo, the supplement just boosts what the food does.

I don’t think you’re in the age bracket yet (over 50), or in the tissue disease bracket (IBS, arthritis, and other connective tissue diseases) to see notably visible skin results and/or joint and GI tract benefits from consuming hydrolyzed collagen supplements. Save buying collagen peptides for after you turn 50 or if you have any connective tissue diseases (for the latter, also adding chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid can help).

I asked my dietician about collagen powders and she said that studies have shown with long term use, it can prevent wrinkle formation as well as helps with bone/joint strength. I’ve been using collagen powder for almost 1 year, I don’t necessarily see a difference but I’m 28 soooo might be a while before it proves useful for me

A few months ago I started using Vital Proteins during my work week for my hair and nails [side effect of malnutrition due to meds for DIABETES], I just stick two tbsps in my drink daily. A few weeks ago, i noticed that while climbing the 29 steep stairs to get to work each day, my knee stopped popping and hurting! My nails are coming back, as is my hair [I've been getting compliments on my hair looking fuller!] but I've also been doing scalp massage and using castor oil. I'ma keep taking it just in case. LOL

The collagen peptides that you are taking does work! This guy did KZbin videos about taking it for his joints only. He was not interested in skin benefits. After posting a 1 year and then a 2 year after starting that product he looked back at the video when he started and he looked remarkably younger. He noticed the difference. He does not have any skin care routine either. I can't really afford the collagen peptides but I wish I could. There's a bigger tub available in Costco that periodically goes on sale for like $22 for the bigger tub! People will go crazy and stock up since it lasts you for 2 months. I wish I knew when it goes on sale. It was just on sale a couple of months ago so probably not for a few more months. Keep taking it, Dr. Idriss!

@@kikinomad Thank you!! I'm so glad I rewatched this video! I wanted to add to tell Dr. Idriss to not take the new recommended 4 Tablespoons for 20 mg of protein. The guy from KZbin took the original one with the scoop. It said to use two scoops and it was 10 mg of protein so apparently each scoop was a Tablespoon. So, Dr. Idriss!! You don't need to take double the dosage! Just take 2 Tablespoons daily in your coffee, oatmeal, tea, smoothie, etc and you'll see great benefits in a couple of years. I know it's a long time to wait but it's worth it! Kikinomad, I got ahold of a different collagen peptides that was on sale on TikTok but when I find out the Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides is going on sale I'm going to buy 4 or 5 tubs of them! Ha ha! Thanks again!

Been consistently taking vital proteins for 5 years. Not sure if it’s helping my skin collagen or if it’s my skin routine. But it definitely helps with my joint pain, hair and nails. If I don’t take it and I go running or do an intense workout my body doesn’t recover as fast. My lash artist asked me what serum I use for my lashes I told her none. So I think it’s the vital proteins.

What a difference. My coworkers, friends… everyone said I was glowing. That’s when I learned about Vitamin C/ Collagen connection. Amazing! Great bud as usual :-)

I'm happy you got that ISDIN sponsorship!! You've been promoting them even before that. I want to point out that drinking bone broth by itself sounds nasty but as a soup base it can be really delicious. Just throw in some garlic, ginger, and some veggies and it can be really yummy! Another thing I wanted to mention is that I have tried microneedling before and heavily agree that I do not trust myself with poking needles into my face. I would much rather get it professionally done.

I've taken Vital Proteins for a year or so & have seen some positive differences. However, I do think I'm going to search for another brand. It used be that a serving was 2 scoops. At some point, they quietly changed it to 4 Tablespoons. That's a minimum of 3 SCOOPS!! I feel that's deceitful business practice. When I called the company, she assured me that 2 Tablespoons = 1 scoop. I told her that as we spoke, I was measuring & that 2 Tablespoons overflowed the scoop by about another 1/2 scoop! It's very hard to gag down 4 Tablespoons in any drink!

Thank you! Collagen does not help improve skin or nails or hair. People keep saying it does, but I've been using it for 8 years and it does not help with any of those. BUT -- it does do wonders for your joints. As you age and your joints start to stiffen up, you get a bit creaky. Collagen absolutely does help with joint issues. At 75 I love it! I've stopped taking it a couple of times, and within a few weeks, I start to feel a bit of stiffness so I order more collagen powder. But that's it -- joints only. The rest is all in people's imaginations. Nothing is funnier to me when someone says if I skip it for a week, my hair looks awful. Really? Our minds are wondrous things. Thank you. I've just recently discovered your videos and they are very informative with no annoying filler.

That is because you’re 75. Your body will supply collagen to the places needed the most, which are your joints.

@@PassionPno I don't know anyone who has been using collagen long term who notices any difference except in their joints. From about 35 to my age. Just joints. Now I've recently been told that it's Verisol Collagen that will make a difference so I switched to that last month -- waiting to see if it improve other things, like skin, hair, nails. Waiting. I think the placebo effect plays a huge part in the results people see, or what they believe they see.

The collagen powder definitely has an effect. My mum is 76 and started taking it instead of calcium supplements for pain in the joints. After three months I saw slight improvements in her skin texture, less crepe and more plumb. However the glow already returned to her skin after 3 weeks. Let’s say an overall improvement of 8 % which doesn’t get even better over time but maxes out after 9 months of consistent use daily 3 grams. Bone and muscle issues have completely disappeared though. I know results vary but take the powder and NEVER a cre with collagen. The latter is utterly useless as the molecules are too large and cannot penetrate into the dermis 🙂
