I quit smoking, and trust me if I can do it, anyone can do it! I had been smoking since I was 12 years old, and never had any real desire to quit until I hit 35 and started to really notice the changes in my skin. I’m happy and proud to report that 2 years later my skin looks so much better, and the grey yellow tinge I once had is completely gone, and bonus* I feel so much better than I used to. If nothing else, indeed quit for vanity’s sake! you’ll thank yourself ❤

I’m just being honest, I’m 38 and have always taken really good care of my skin starting at age 23. I use to get Botox but stopped. This is what I use and it works for me: 1.) healthy diet, full of protein (grass fed meat, butter) healthy fats, antioxidants 2.) exercise. I walk 30-45 mins about 5 days a week and toning exercises at home. I sometimes do hot yoga classes. 3) I use tretinoin and vitamin c. 4) I don’t tan and I use mineral sunscreen. 5) I don’t smoke anything lol and I don’t drink. 6) Supplements. I do drink collagen peptides in my coffee every morning, Nutrafol and ashwaganda. I have noticed a difference adding the collagen proteins in my coffee (I added this 4 weeks ago) People think I look 28…I’ll take it. Just sharing my advice ❤

Im blessed genetically, for example you have to be 18 to buy cigarette products and alcohol in our country, im trying to stop smoking so i switched to vaping and if i dont have my ID, nobody will sell me anything! They always shocked when i tell them that im 26. People around me used to laugh at me when i was 20 and everybody thought that i was 15, i got made fun of really bad by other woman. I still had a full on mental breakdown at my 26th birthday, i don't want to just rellie on my genetic predisposition, since i now benifit from it! Not only did Vital Protein work for me as a 59 yr old but everyone thinks I’m in my early 40’s. Also, it helped with joint pain. I was wearing a hand brace every night for very bad pain, pain is gone. When I ran out of this once, and only once because that pain came right back. I will never be without it and is cheaper than a lot of other products out there. Just my opinion ❤❤❤. Also, you have to use it for longer than a few months. I’ve used it for over 5yrs. Skin also improved a lot. I use one scoop a day with a glass of orange juice. Within the past 12 months this was the product helped the most, along with Vichy Lift Activ Supreme Vitamin C Brightening Serum. These two worked magic for me.

When I started taking the vital proteins powder it made a huge difference in my skin! I'm a 55 year old guy that has never done anything to take care of my skin but tried it because my wife had some. I didn't expect anything really... I was totally blown away at how quick my skin smoothed out and the acne bumps I've had on the back of my arm my whole life went away. It was crazy. So maybe it doesn't do much for some but for me it was huge and noticeable very quickly.

Oddly, it hasn’t done much for my nails, but I’m totally fine with that. Ok. So I’ve heard at least a few dermatologists say that Collagen supplements are quite effective. But they also said that the collagen should be 1) Hydrolyzed and 2) Contain peptic acids; and 3) grass fed. They have also said that we are wasting our time with topical collagen creams because the collagen isn’t small enough to penetrate the cells. I am paraphrasing because I don’t speak doctor. Lol. Would love to hear your take on this though.

I always had trouble with sunscreen, because everything I tried (even the non-comedogenic products) seemed to make me greasy and break out. I FINALLY found one what works for me, so if you like me have very pale skin and are also prone to breakouts, I really recommend Garnier Ombrelle Face Antishine Cream SPF 60. It genuinely seems to have an effective mattifying effect, so now finally I'm wearing SPF 60 every single day. It took me until 34 years old to be doing this, which is a shame, but here we are. Also, don't forget about the power of hats! Sunday Afternoons is a good brand for hats designed to keep the sun off your face and neck. They're not cheap but you pay for quality.

So a question - collagen supplementation has been shown to (in weaker studies but nonetheless) to promote wound healing in burn victims and elderly in nursing homes. Now, those studies compared to no intervention, when it would’ve been more interesting to compare to equal amounts of complete proteins, because we do know that good nutrition as a whole leads to wound healing, and protein calories malnutrition in particular hinders this process. It’s why surgeons love TPN so much despite it being sepsis in a bag. That said, do you know if there is any data of a high protein diet leading to improved skin from an aging standpoint, not the fancy collagens (hydrolyzed or whatever they advertise), but overall high protein diet of complete protein sources? Love your videos. You’re so good at educating people about skin care. I got my mom watching you and she recently bought your major fade moisturizer, and is in love. I’m planning to get it once I use up my current stuff.

Sepsis in a bag 😅 what a phrase. Nursing home residents often are pretty malnourished and Burns victims are loosing extra protein if they have large wounds so often have low albumin. So I'm guessing both benefit from any amino acid source.

Dr. Idriss, in my opinion, taking collagen WITH BEEF OR LAMB in the diet has made my skin beautiful. I decided to take photos and stop taking the collagen and the broths/foods and my skin just looked sad after stopping it. The other thing is hydration, obviously. I also consume a lot of lemon, eggs etc. So imo, the supplement just boosts what the food does.

I don’t think you’re in the age bracket yet (over 50), or in the tissue disease bracket (IBS, arthritis, and other connective tissue diseases) to see notably visible skin results and/or joint and GI tract benefits from consuming hydrolyzed collagen supplements. Save buying collagen peptides for after you turn 50 or if you have any connective tissue diseases (for the latter, also adding chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid can help).

One more question…I’m 64 with a family history of cancer. It’s my understanding that EGF promotes growth of all cells where it’s applied. I’ve been concerned about using EGF because I don’t want an acceleration of skin cancer if I should happen to have a few skin cancer cells here and there. I baked in the sun during my childhood and through my twenties so I know I’ve had plenty of sun damage. No skin cancers yet, but we’re talking at a cellular level. Your thoughts about this?

The collagen peptides that you are taking does work! This guy did KZbin videos about taking it for his joints only. He was not interested in skin benefits. After posting a 1 year and then a 2 year after starting that product he looked back at the video when he started and he looked remarkably younger. He noticed the difference. He does not have any skin care routine either. I can't really afford the collagen peptides but I wish I could. There's a bigger tub available in Costco that periodically goes on sale for like $22 for the bigger tub! People will go crazy and stock up since it lasts you for 2 months. I wish I knew when it goes on sale. It was just on sale a couple of months ago so probably not for a few more months. Keep taking it, Dr. Idriss!

@@kikinomad Thank you!! I'm so glad I rewatched this video! I wanted to add to tell Dr. Idriss to not take the new recommended 4 Tablespoons for 20 mg of protein. The guy from KZbin took the original one with the scoop. It said to use two scoops and it was 10 mg of protein so apparently each scoop was a Tablespoon. So, Dr. Idriss!! You don't need to take double the dosage! Just take 2 Tablespoons daily in your coffee, oatmeal, tea, smoothie, etc and you'll see great benefits in a couple of years. I know it's a long time to wait but it's worth it! Kikinomad, I got ahold of a different collagen peptides that was on sale on TikTok but when I find out the Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides is going on sale I'm going to buy 4 or 5 tubs of them! At some point, they quietly changed it to 4 Tablespoons. That's a minimum of 3 SCOOPS!! I feel that's deceitful business practice. When I called the company, she assured me that 2 Tablespoons = 1 scoop. I told her that as we spoke, I was measuring & that 2 Tablespoons overflowed the scoop by about another 1/2 scoop! Thank you! Collagen does not help improve skin or nails or hair. People keep saying it does, but I've been using it for 8 years and it does not help with any of those. BUT -- it does do wonders for your joints. As you age and your joints start to stiffen up, you get a bit creaky. Collagen absolutely does help with joint issues. At 75 I love it! I've stopped taking it a couple of times, and within a few weeks, I start to feel a bit of stiffness so I order more collagen powder. But that's it -- joints only. The rest is all in people's imaginations. Nothing is funnier to me when someone says if I skip it for a week, my hair looks awful. Really? Our minds are wondrous things. Thank you. I've just recently discovered your videos and they are very informative with no annoying filler.

The collagen powder definitely has an effect. My mum is 76 and started taking it instead of calcium supplements for pain in the joints. After three months I saw slight improvements in her skin texture, less crepe and more plumb. However the glow already returned to her skin after 3 weeks. Let’s say an overall improvement of 8 % which doesn’t get even better over time but maxes out after 9 months of consistent use daily 3 grams. Bone and muscle issues have completely disappeared though. I know results vary but take the powder and NEVER a cre with collagen. The latter is utterly useless as the molecules are too large and cannot penetrate into the dermis 🙂
