Oh that’s so scary! My little one used to hold her breath in for a long time when she’d get shots, and it was always heart stopping. If it happens again, hold her up-side-down and hit her back. Also, if you haven’t, I highly recommend taking a First-Aid/CRP class with an emphasis on child/infancy. You can sign up for them through Red Cross, and they usually only take a 1/2 day to complete. It gives you a lot of confidence and peace of mind on how to handle a crisis situation 😌

The bad parent feeling never goes away girl. I still have those moments and my son is six. I guess it is a good thing that we do feel like that at times it shows we care and want to do our best. Don’t beat yourself up we are all learning as we go and as long as we show and communicate love they will grow up to be good successful people.

Presley had what is very common for babies, it’s called a “breath holding spell” it’s very common. My son has his very first one on his first birthday. It doesn’t hurt them. The moment they “pass out” the body automatically begins breathing again. They are terrifying but completely common. It may happen a few more times but it goes away on its own by the time the babies are 5.

As parents we need to learn resilience and pass this onto our kids. It’s a lesson I’ve learnt more increasingly from age 30 to 40. I had my first at 31 and there will always be competing priorities and situations that occur that are unpredictable. Lean on those who understand you and Sharing it like you have is a great release to move forward. Best of luck x

I have to tell you that you will never sleep soundly until you know that your child is safe. My son is 20 and in college and it is so hard letting go especially during Covid. Whew! Parenting is not easy. Thank God you have Jamie. I have done it on my own forever. Now I found my partner. Thank God!

Thank you for sharing your vulnerability. Being a parent is scary and its a "learn as you go" no matter how many books you might read, until you live it. I wish I could tell you the worry goes away but you just learn to "manage" and move on, cry if needed, doesn't mean your a bad parent, we've all been there. My daughter is 21 and I still worry about her everyday. Your doing a great job, both of you. Being a parent is hard but is so rewarding. Be easy on yourself....

Aww I'm so sorry and I'm glad she's okay. My niece would get mad when she was under one years old and would hold her breath and pass out. Scard the crap out of us but the Dr. said it was common and unless she doesn't come to right away to "try" to ignore it. We bravely did this one time and she didn't do it again because she found out she wasn't going to get her way just by doing that. Things will happen with ALL children. You can watch them like a hawlk and still they can get hurt. It doesn't mean you are a bad mommy at any means. Give yourself time to breath and give a good snuggle and know that all is well and you did everything you could to help her immediately. ❤️ 😉 you guys are great. She's so adorable and growing way to fast.

Naomi, I just wanted to hug you when you were sharing what had happened with little Presley... I have gone through a few scary experiences with my daughter too as a new mum... so I was feeling what you were feeling!! It is one of those things that parents go through, but you know what? somehow, someway, God gives us what we need to do without us thinking, so we take care of our baby and all goes back to normal. It is good to thank God everyday for taking care of us and using us parents to take care of our babies, they are a blessing and so vulnerable... I am most happy and thank God that has given you what to do and all is lovely!! Your little girl is adorably sweet and cheekey too hahahaha!! THAT is good :D Children enjoy more the zoo once they are 4, at least that is my experience.. because they ask questions and they cutely talk to the animals... it is a very tender and sweet experience to go through! I am sure you will have many many exciting adventures with your little bundle of joy and your husband. I am sending you all lots of love from my heart to yours

I'm so so so sorry Naomi. I have a 9yr old and a 4 yr old and yes I totally agree. Parenting can be so unexpecting sometimes. I've had several situation with my youngest and I almost cried watching you describe Presley incident. I had a very similar experience with my youngest. It's the scariest and most freighting feeling in the world. Presley is beautiful and so cute! Blessing to all your family!

I know how scary that situation was with Presley; every mom has a scary moment with their children at one point. Just a suggestion, maybe think about taking a first aid course? That may help with the anxiety you are feeling and you will be prepared in case anything happens in the future...obviously no one wants that to happen but it might give you some reassurance. BTW you are not a bad mom! We all feel that way when something unexpected happens with our children. Take care you and Jamie are doing a great job as parents.

It sounded so scary, but I just wanted to let you know that it is a very Common thing. In Denmark science shows that these cramps are often caused from a feeling of anxiety or pain in sudden situations and that they are called “affect- cramps” . They are also often connected to a lack of iron in the body? just wanted to share that if you hadn’t already found out. hope you are all doing great now🌸

Hey Naomi. I am a young mom of two kids (2yo daughter and 6mo son) and I had the same situations with my oldest when she would get so upset or hurt that she would stop breathing in the middle of crying. It is so scary every time this happens and my doctor gave me advice what to do. First you should try to blow your breath into her face, it always works, but if not - pinch her somewhere in the arm or leg. I know it sounds cruel and you don't want to hurt your baby, but it kind of resets them. For my child always works blowing air in her face and as I am writing this I realized that we haven't had any episodes lately, so maybe it's over for us. Be strong and know that you are the best parents for your baby and you will get through anything. :)

Bless your heart I think a lot of parents had went through the same thing well something similar . my daughter was about a year-and-a-half-old and my friend son was the same age as my daughter. well my friend used to stop at McDonald's and where we get them both chicken nuggets well I would cut my daughter's chicken nuggets up and feed them to her in pieces and my friend's son would eat his whole.. so she's like why are you cutting them up you know he's the same age that she is .she will be just fine.. so one day I was in a hurry and I was driving so I just got the chicken nuggets and I gave them to her whole and I looked over and she was turning blue choking on a chicken nugget I was driving down the middle of a busy highway I flew over almost hit a car jerk her out of her car seat start hitting her on the back and trying to do the heimlich maneuver and she coughed up a whole chicken nugget...A WHOLE CHICKEN NUGGET NOW SO Never ever listen to anybody else about being a parent.. trust your gut instinct because I knew better than to give her whole chicken nugget but I let and somebody influence me not to follow my instinct. It was definitely a lesson learned never happened again but it was very scary and I'll never forget it and my daughter is 28 years old right now..Glad presley is ok

that breath holding is actually not uncommon in infants.. one good way to get them out of it , is to blow air up their mouth/nose.. just like if you are blowing out a birthday candle. It will cause them to take a breath and come back
