Im Sommer war die klimatisierte UB der absolute gamechanger. Nach dem studium hats mich wieder hin gezogen.

Hi Angeline! I'm thinking of applying to heidelberg university, but I am an international student and studied in English my entire life (now doing A levels), are there many people at the uni that had my situation? Do you have any advice on how to adapt to studying in German?

Hii! Yes there are a lot of international students, and as far as I know there is a lot of support available for them at the university! Also, many cool courses are offered in English (at least at my faculty). I think most important is to ask many questions and to use all the opportunities to connect with people, especially in the first weeks (f.e. “Erstiwoche”: there are a lot of events in the first week for getting to know other students). Usually, those first few weeks are the time when everybody finds their friend groups because most people start studying not knowing anyone. So try to go to those events and once you have found people you like, it will be so much easier to adapt and you can help each other! :)

@@angelineblue Thank you so much for your reply! I have another question, how are the professors, and are the class sizes small, do you get a good opportunity to connect with the professors?
@angelineblue25 күн бұрын
@@lizziellama The class sizes are small, at least at my seminars, so it is quite easy to connect with the lecturers after. For the professors it depends, some are quite stuck-up, only focus on their own research and suck at actually teaching. So I would ask around when you start, and usually when you go to courses with lecturers that are not actually professors, they tend to be much more helpful!

I think you moved away to england anyway, but please be extremely careful with posting such personal information on the internet. There are unhinged people out there, so for safety reasons consider not posting identifiable stuff like bus stations, view from your home or places in the bib you frequent regularly Thanks for sharing your day and stay safe

Hi yes, thank you for caring! I totally agree, and I only posted this once I moved out and did not live in that city anymore. But your comment is good for awareness for anyone for sure! :)
