My husband just spent months looking for a job after graduation and the one that finally came around was at the perfect time and everything lined up. Don’t stress about it now. What’s meant to come will come at the right time and be better than what you see right now!

Yeah I agree here and was looking for other comments like this. It’s a red flag for them to state that they expect you to work 55 hours a week and to basically drop everything for a job. I’m glad you also see that it’s a red flag Keegan. Definitely look into former employees or current employees opinions of companies when you’re applying (not just the people who are interviewing you). I ended up in a great company and am very happy where I am! Also - yeah the career counselors at school told me the same thing but I ended up getting a job that I applied for a month before graduation

I have worked on HR for quite some time and have been part of the work force ever since I graduated high school, when you mentioned the amount of hours they expected you to work that alone was a major red flag because the "extra hours" would not be extra nor paid as such. Also keep in mind that you need a good work/life balance... Hang in there, the right one will come along on the right time.

I’d agree with this. I’ve been working nearly 20 years full time and I’ve been in marketing for 12 years and this job sounds like a massive red flag. My concern is why would they want to hire a head of marketing who is still in college and going for a first job? I really think you had a lucky escape. I know it’s really tempting but don’t push too high for your first job. I remember that I felt I had to be amazing and perfect right out of school and that’s just not needed - I just stressed myself out. Take it slow, go in at a level you feel comfortable at and remember you have all the time in the world. I think you’ll be awesome but be kind to yourself along the way. You’ll enjoy life so much more that way. ☺️

As a recent college graduate, it’s a huge accomplishment getting a job right after school. But knowing the company or leadership isn’t for you, that’s a good thing! I got offered a director position at a low salary and the owner of the company I was at was just not for me. There is something out there for you and it will come with patience! I graduated last May. After multiple interviews I turned down a job with better pay for a job with lower pay because I had a better connection with management and felt like they genuinely cared about me. You’ll know when you find the right job. It will feel right and it will all fall into place.

Im watching this now but let me say im so glad you turned that job down even managers should NOT be working the way they wanted you to. I was a general manager for a grocery store at 20 meaning I was over everyone in that store and another location and STILL only worked 40-50hrs a week never any more, any job that tries to force you to do everything yourself then go "oh thats normal for us' is not someplace you want to work because it really will only get worse. I try and warn people of it but a good job will understand that one person isnt a superhero and accommodations are necessary so i truly hope you find a job later on that works with you.

I graduated back in 2019 with a marketing degree. Let me tell you most places hire marketing managers at an entry-level especially when they don't/ are not planning on having a full marketing team. Marketing managerial jobs like this are a grab-all. It's hard but you get to do whatever you want though because no one is going be able to tell you what to do.

I graduated last June and can definitely relate to the job struggle. It's so hard to figure out when to apply because so many companies are looking for different things. Some hire way in advance, but some will wait until closer to when they need people. And then you'll see peers getting job offers and be like, should I be applying? I didn't end up getting my current job or really a steady stream of interviews until May (applied sometime in April I think). The right thing for you will come!

To be honest I started watching you for the college content and then slowly stopped. But when you started posting about jobs I haven't missed a video. It’s so hard to be in your senior year and at the point where you don’t know what is coming next… I graduated in 2017 and I remember that feeling. It was terrifying that my lease would be up and I knew I wasn’t staying in Carbondale, IL. I only lived there for school. I wasn’t moving home either so I didn’t know where I was headed. I applied to job after job after job. So many that didn’t even give me an interview… lol. Then so many that did but it wasn’t a good fit for one reason or another. I got my job offer in May and finished my medical program the 1st week of July then off to start my new adventure in Seattle! The point of my story is that we all go through it and we all get through it. You will find your job and things will work themselves out when the time is right. Xoxo 😘

Regarding what your career counselor said with applying in November for a job in May, it’s good advice in regular times because some companies take months to get back to you. Just an other thing to consider, if a job is willing to give you a high up job when you’re still in college and don’t have full time corporate experience, it would be good to look into the company, they’re ethics, how many people work there, if you have experience with what they want you to do. I love your videos! There’s a lot of job opportunities, you got this and you have a lot of time to learn and grow before getting to the higher levels.

Keegan - I’m a 35 year old professional and a mum so you know I don’t watch you for the college content!! You remind me a lot of Morgan Yates who does KZbin full time and her blogs are so interesting. I watch a plethora of different KZbin genres and most people do so, so please don’t give it up when you graduate because people want to see you travel, rent houses, do hauls, have a great social life, learn about you growing as a person - not about college. Please don’t give it up. I gave up my dream career when I became a mum because I realised how much of life I was missing and now work part time and it is amazing!

Ps this wasn’t a senior position - the title was to entice a young graduate so they could use and abuse. You’d have lasted 3 months max, j guarantee you would not have “climbed higher” because they are toxic. Trust me - I was Head of a department at 21 and I worked 7 days a week and I left and NO regrets.

I think the miscommunication with your career counselor about starting to look for jobs in November to start in May is because that really is when you need to be applying - to jobs that are specifically for new college grads. Companies that do things like leadership development programs for college graduates start hiring all the way back in August/September for roles that will start the following summer. If you're applying for a job that doesn't make it clear that they're looking for new grads, they're going to be hiring based on business need which means they'll want someone to start within the next couple months. That said I think you absolutely should give yourself your last semester to relax. You have your entire life to work and with the social media experience you have, you're definitely going to find another opportunity in social media marketing at the right time for you. Also consider that you have your whole life to climb the corporate ladder! Starting in a higher-up position isn't necessarily better if it means you have to spend all your time working and don't have any time to spend with friends and enjoy your early 20s.

I understand the mild regret and thoughts what if’s of turning down the very job offer received. However as someone with “life-experience” aka old (haha) I want to reassure you that you made the right decision, and most likely dodged a bullet as the saying goes. Although the title would have been nice to have there are many many drawbacks to working for a company that is dissolving an outsourced business relationship, and start up of new departments internally. So many things tend to go wrong in those transitions, and they usually place the blame on the new employee managing the transition. Also throwing that individual under the bus with upper management can be a common occurrence. Handling of those things really requires working knowledge and thick skin that is developed over years in the respective industry. It that first job didn’t happen to work out at that level, restarting at entry level might not be as fulfilling, and to try to make a lateral move without having to work your way up would be incredibly difficult. Enjoy your last semester in school, and all the things that go along with being a young adult. You have the rest of your life to crush career goals, and climb the corporate ladder.

First, you are amazing and way beyond qualified and have way more experience than your peers. So please don’t take this personally. Red flags about this job would be that they hired you for a senior level role straight out of college and hired you so fast. Not that you aren’t amazing. But those are major red flags. Why are they so desperate? Why are they willing to hire someone so young for a senior position? Why do their employees all work more than full time? Are they happy? Be competitive and be picky! Hey Keegan! I can tell from your videos that you're very well spoken, intelligent and kind. You'd be a great asset for any company; however, I really feel that the hotel job offer did show a lot of red flags and it was a good decision to keep on looking for that perfect fit. I have a Marketing degree as well as held corporate jobs in Marketing for a while. Honestly, I loved Marketing because of the creative and research sides; not necessarily for the "sales" or marketer side. Marketing can seriously be a tough area to work in, not only with the actual work, but in regard to corporate politics as well. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I wonder if they possibly didn't have many applicants at the time you applied and/or someone who had more experience as a Marketing manager didn't see this as a good opportunity to accept because of a lower pay range offered than they potentially could demand with their experience and in addition to the insurmountable workload. In my experience, the company might have seen a starry-eyed college student as not rocking the boat or "easier to take advantage of." Especially, if they weren't willing to wait until you're out of school or trained properly. They might have expected you to figure things out as you go without much direction and that's a huge undertaking that would most definitely lead to a lot of stress. Unless you're the type of person who's used to navigating that kind of environment, it wouldn't have been worth it. Good luck with everything in life and I know you'll do very well in whatever you choose to do!

Here's my American Airlines horror story: I'm from NH and in the summer of 2021 I had a remote internship, but our office was based in California. I wanted to go meet the team in person, so I scheduled a flight to Sacremento. I had a stop at Chicago O'Hare. Flew to O'Hare just fine. Then flight to Sac was delayed 4 times. We got on the plane. Sat there for an hour, not moving. Then the pilot said "The copilot and I have too many hours this week and if we are not off the ground in ten minutes we can't fly you." We did not get off the ground in ten minutes. They kicked us off the plane. AA didn't have any backup crew and there were no more flights to CA for the night, so we were stuck in the airport. Then they told us the next flight to Sac wouldn't be another 3 days AND it would stop in Dallas first. To "accommodate", they gave us a single hotel voucher for one night and a tiny ass meal voucher worth $12. This was supposed to last me 3 days. Also a tornado warning started outside. I spent the night on the O'Hare floor and went back to NH the next morning. Some nice southern lady offered me some BBQ chicken she smuggled onto the plane in her pocket (I said no). Then I fought with AA for 3 weeks bc they insisted that giving a one year voucher to a college student with 0 time to fly would be better than giving me my $1000 back. I got the money back and have vowed to never fly American again

Lol Keegan going through the ski equipment is literally "tell me you're not Canadian without telling me you're not Canadian" because to every Canadian all that equipment feels like a no-brainer. No hate though love you Keegan haha. Also in regards to your job: the fact that they wanted someone so inexperienced to do so much work at such a young age is also a red flag in itself. The fact that they expect a senior in college to do the same work as an experienced manager says that they really don't care about their employees as does everything else about that company. With all of your experience in social media I'm confident in your ability to find a job at a more ethical company once you have graduated! Here in Canada they usually recommend starting your summer job hunt in February/March if you want to have a job by the time our semester ends in mid-April. Try not to stress about it too much and please try to enjoy your final semester of school! It's crazy that we are the same age but I'm graduating a year behind you haha perks of a five-year degree
