Vlog: Warm October in the PNW + Birthday Knitting for Matt

IN THIS HOMESTEAD VLOG:
-We've had an unseasonably warm and dry October so far, so I'm still harvesting and preserving the garden.
-I decided to rip back the sweater project I started a couple episodes ago, and I have casted on for something new.
-We have new additions to our herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats! Plus big plans for our herd next year.

A peek into our evening: both hubby and I are relaxing on the couch. I’m knitting and he’s playing golf battle and both of us are listening to you, Matt and the kids on the iPad. I had no idea he was really listening to you guys until you say that you’re selling the kids then all of a sudden, Ray, my hubby starts chuckling. I looked over at him and asked what he was chuckling about and he said he forgot what baby goats are called. What, so you thought they were selling Ella and Meri?😂 and the “technical difficulties” had me rolling😂 love this video and all the others you put here in tubeland☺️

I am sort of over it too. The tomato plants I started from seed (fiaschetto di manduria) produce small plum tomatoes. I put them in on July 8th. They have almost completely produced and are done for. I keep roasting them and packing them into 8 ounce jars which works for us seniors. I need to freeze all my peppers and the freezers are full. Your video reminded me of making the cowboy jalapeños. I think I grew the biggest jalapeños this year than I ever have. On one plant they have totally turned red. Even the Jimmy Nardellos I planted in July have produced and are delicious in a chicken vegetable soup. It seems to me it should be time for a fire and knitting rather than preserving. The rain is coming here on Friday. As usual, love watching your videos and Instagram stories. Looks like an amazing harvest for you and lots and lots of preserving. It will all taste good this La Niña winter.

Yeah, we’ll be grateful to our past selves for doing all this work to fill the pantry. The rain is coming here for us on Friday too, and it doesn’t look like it’ll stop from that point forward. Definitely looking forward to more cozy vibes.

`Just discovered you channel. I love the vibe :) Can I ask.. what kind of pot do you use for the grapes to cook in? And why did you? Did you made grape juice of something? And why cooking it and not juice it raw? because of the vitamines.

It’s a steam juicer, and I use it when I want to can the juice. We drink it raw sometimes too, but I only have so much freezer space. :)
