"I don't know how any of this works" -Hank I have a story about that. I'm a theater person. One time, I saw "Lighting Practicum" in my college's handbook and not knowing anything about what that even meant, I signed up for it. After somehow getting an A in a class for once, I did it again. Immediately afterward I was hounded with any and all lighting questions from then until I left school 2.5 years later. Worth it. The moral of this story is try things that you have no idea what they are or how they work. Who knows? You may accidentally become an expert! (and enjoy it!!)

Marie Lastname It wasn't quite an internship, it was a college class, but more like a guided study. I worked with the professor on a show and asked questions as I went. And thanks! Now I know more German. :)

I’m in an extremely similar situation. My TA for my freshman seminar class (a comics studies class) asked me to be his assistant lighting designer out of the blue last semester. I have now assisted in design of one show, designed one on my own, and been requested as a design for two upcoming shows (all without ever have actually taken a class on lighting). College theater is wild.

It's more like the book was longlisted for the award, which might be an achievement for a new/less popular author, but popular authors don't particularly brag about. In this round, people can write in books as well, in the next round they can't and people can vote for their favorite amongst a more limited list, or a shortlist, if you will.
