I LOVE Cats. My uncle was involved in the original production so I grew up going to the show and listening to the soundtrack. I know every melody and every word. When I was in my 20s I loved working in the area of London (Bloomsbury) where TS Eliot lived because so many place names are mentioned in it which are still there. it was my gateway into poetry and honestly I owe it a lot. I feel quite sad that so many people are now moved to yuck my yum based on clips of a movie without ever having seen or understood the musical. For the record I think the movie looks terrible but if you see it and like it, good for you!

"It's just KZbin" reminded me of a very sweet little tidbit in an article about Henri Jokiharju, a new defenseman on the Buffalo Sabres, my much beloved and not-particularly-good hockey team.* Jokiharju had pulled it together after a tough early shift and made a crucial game-saving play in the last minutes. He told an interviewer afterward that last year, an early shift would've thrown his whole game, but he's shifted his mentality thanks to advice from a fellow Finnish defenseman who's taken him under wing: "He told me that you can't stay on the small things. Little women made me cry yesterday! I also really enjoyed the series adaptation. The story is dramatically moving and yet still realistic, and universally relatable in its depiction of ambition, compassion, love and loss. I'm a young woman living halfway across the world from the March family 150 years later, and still find Louisa May Alcott's social commentary to be deeply poignant. New adaptations of the story always reignite my admiration for this story and its author.

Something I love and I think lots of people experience is Hank @ 1:25, which is that we all think of the things we hear in terms of the way we interpret them to mean, e.g. what do you think is the most beautiful word? -> was interpreted as 'favorite word' and what do you think was the most foolish thing you've done? -> was interpreted as 'stupidest thing you done'. And I think it beautifully exemplifies how foolish humans can be in assuming that everything thing they say was understood as they meant to communicate it and assume that there is no gap between thing I tried to express and thing they understood. beautiful foolishness
