Thanks to everyone who has preordered the book, and also to everyone who joined in the signing livestreams. They were a blast, and I will miss them, even if I will not miss signing my name 250,000 times.

Hi, hello. Some answers to your questions: 1. What does the review of signing your name 250,000 look like? It looks illegible even close up, but I have posted a picture here: twitter.com/anthroreviewed/status/1376940315194576900 2. Every copy of the hardcover U.S. and Canada edition should be signed. I do not know of a certain/reliable way to get signed copies if you live outside the U.S. or Canada. (There may be such ways; I just don't know if they'll work.) However, I am going to do a virtual book tour (more on that soon) that should make it possible for people outside the U.S. to order signed copies. Hopefully! I'm working on it! 3. The art you can see in the shot of the boxes is by the Brazilian artist Marilá Dardot. It's part of a series in which she takes books from her library that are written in languages she does not speak and repurposes them as art installations. -John

Do you have any advice to a young writer? I’m 14 years old and have some ideas for stories but don’t know what things I can do to improve/where to go with said stories. You’re my favorite author and any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hey. I think the main thing when you're young is just to write as often as you can, and to explore how to take stories that live in your head and make them into written words. For me anyway, the stories feel so alive when I'm imagining them, but then it's hard work to turn them into words that can make the story live inside of someone else's head. That work, for me anyway, just took a lot of time. So when I was your age, I was just beginning to try to write stuff down and trying to figure out how to turn story ideas into words. Practicing that makes you better at it. The other thing I'd say is to read a lot. Read the kinds of books you'd like to write, but also read other books. Read anything friends or family recommend to you. Reading is this amazing apprenticeship--through reading, we can learn how other people have used words to make stories feel real. I wish you lots of luck! -John

Never reading a book after it's published is very wise. Few things are as frustrating as catching a "typo" (or worse) after it is already in print. EDIT: I had to edit THIS to replace a word I thought better of.

The poetry of sending something you created into the void of everything far outweighs the desire to keep it pure. For sending it away surely will affect it's meaning but sharing it with others is the greatest joy of all.

After you sign your name 250,000 times, your body releases a chemical that makes you forget about the pain so you'll want to sign your name 250,000 times again. And thus the species shall continue.

Hey John, Namibian nerdfighter here. Do you prefer writing non-fiction to writing fiction?
@vlogbrothers
@vlogbrothers 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I felt like at this time in my life I wanted to write nonfiction because I wanted to write as directly as I could about some of the experiences and forces that I feel are shaping my little life, and human life more broadly. But taking three years away from fiction has made me miss it, so I am looking forward to trying to do it again once this book is out. Ideally, I would love to be able to write both! -john
