Rolling is normal for knitting. The easiest way to just prevent it, is to knit a garter or seed stitch border along the edges. That will help keep it nice and flat.
@oflifeandstuff6 жыл бұрын
Also chunkier wool and larger needles roll less. That will also make your project go quicker. If you learn the European style of knitting, it's a lot faster than the British/American style! I have to admit though that I've started to crochet because of Christina :)

Well, Caitlin Doughty (AKA Ask a Mortician on YT) is a great person to check out regarding end of life decisions. Her website (www.orderofthegooddeath.com) also has a lot of good information regarding that. Also, knitting gets faster as you practice more. As a phlebotomist, I really hope you're getting good care regarding the blood cultures you mentioned, I know it really sucks when they need to draw the peripheral ones in addition to the ones from your VAD.

I literally was checking my phone about 5 times a day looking for your vlog. I hope your surgery went well. I was just diagnosed with EDS. If had to go to the hospital about 40 times the past three years to have my jaw put back into place. Sometimes my shoulders and knee too. Watching your vlogs made me mention to my Dr. About EDS. He got me to the right specialist, ran test, and sure enough that's what it was. So know that your videos literally saved me. Lots of love my dear.

Clair was an amazing ray of sunshine in this world. Such an amazing human being. But she was happy with her life and she was at peace with her death. She will live on forever through all of us and her family and her friends. RIP Claire 😇 A year ago or so I had what’s called serotonin syndrome. I was put on life support. I of course have no recollection of any of it until I woke up with a tube down my throat. Scariest thing EVER. That was a fun 2 week and some days in the icu. Then a few more days on a regular floor. TWO days later I was back at the ER with horrific chest pain. That chest pain was actually lung pain because I had blood clots in my lungs. That was the second time almost dying in three weeks... obviously the serotonin syndrome was the first. After another ten days on iv heparin (spelling?) I got to go home. BUT WAIT THERES MORE! I was admitted a month later bc I couldn’t keep food or water or anything down. I was throwing up blood and pooping out blood. They let me go after a week and I’m still in that condition. I have to give myself 5 plus injections a day on top of my oral meds. No one knows what’s up with my gi tract. Bee to 4 gi doctors and no one knows. This is all on top of my chronic illnesses I had before the serotonin syndrome and all that. On top of the constant chronic pain. Any ways I’m a mess lol.... sorry about the novel. I hope you get out and start feeling better soon!! Love and hugs to you and your mama!! 💜💜💜 Ps don’t apologize to us about your vlogs!!! You are AMAZING!!! You can barely see!! Take your time girl... we will be here ready and Pps When you get your shunt surgery I hope it helps you as much as it possibly can!! AND THAT ITS THE LAST ONE!!!!! At least for a little while 😉

Really great of you to mention her!! When I was diagnosed terminal, I found her, and even though I'm 9 years older than her, I really looked up to her a lot. I did indeed learn a lot from her. I learned to cope with my own death, that will unfortunately take place due to my illness. Remember none of us are getting out of this alive.

Your hallway wheelchair dancing was amazing. I love your mom giggling. When you have chronic illness, you find humor in the weirdest, smallest of things. My mom and I would laugh so hard in the doctor's office. We always knew what the other was thinking because we were together every day. All it would take is one look from the other and we would burst out laughing. So glad you were able to celebrate with your friend. Your thoughts on Claire were beautiful and important. I can't believe I've never seen her on KZbin. I will be sure to look at them now. I'm sorry she lost her battle. My mom had a double lung transplant and it's really just trading one illness for another. I understand what she must have been facing and I'm sorry for someone so young to experience. She sounds like a remarkable young lady. I fully agree with all your statements regarding death. Every single person, not just those who are ill or are older, needs to have this conversation with their loved ones who would make a decision on your behalf. Particularly if you're young and single...speak to your parents or siblings etc. For some reason many, like me, never even thought about this until after I was married. It just seems like a grown up married thing to do. And like everything else, you cannot please everyone, and believe me everyone has an opinion, this is one decision that must be your own with your own best interests at heart. My mom was afraid to talk about it but I forced her. She was mad for a good week but when she passed I knew exactly what to do. When doctors said it was time to take her off life support, I knew to tell them to buzz off. She needed more time. They were pissed too. But I knew I was advocating for her and it was my final gift for her. She actually ended up recovering to live a few more months. Only you know what you want and when your loved ones are faced with making decisions, it's the best gift you can give them...make your wishes known. Nice job Christina. I hope your recovery goes quickly. 💕

Watching my friend take her last breaths in February watching the doctors take her off of life support, and seeing her family, it just opened up this idea, that I needed to adjust some things, and make my wishes known. It's so important, because truly we are our own advocates!! I also recommend you only make your advanced directive, someone who will honor your wishes 100%.

Christina, you my friend are truly one of the strongest people I know! You are a fighter through and through! Even on your weakest days, the days you feel like doing, saying, feeling or thinking nothing at all...you never give up on hope. God knows you can handle whatever comes your way, and he knows you are a teacher in so many ways, and have helped so many in their own journey of healing. Christina, life, this world would not be the same with you not in it...I’m so glad you are! Thank you for being here and helping me in my troubles and weaknesses.. Ok, I had to say this and now I will finish watching this vlog.

I have followed some people on KZbin who have passed away and for every one of them I cried for while but when I saw the post from Claire's mum saying she was gone I didn't cry. It was weird, I was sad but I didn't feel the need to cry, like you said she was very open about death and I think that might have 'prepared' me. When I learned of her passing I told as many people as I could to donate to her foundation to keep her legacy alive and some of them donated. I'm just hoping that wherever she may be now she will inspire others like she did here😊 may she rest in peace.

Hey Christina! Long time knitter here. The fabric is rolling because that's what flat stockinette stitch (knitting on one side and purling on the other) does. You could try to block it out if you are using natural fibers but if it's acrylic it won't really block. I'm sure you know about ravelry but there are tons of free infinity scarf patterns where you knit "in the round", ie knitting around and around and around until you have a sufficient length. It won't roll if it's knitted in the round! Also if you want to keep flat knitting try seed stitch, ribbing or garter stitch! Very pink knits here on KZbin has great stitch pattern tutorials. Keep knitting!!
@VictoriousBard6 жыл бұрын
the ends will roll up unless you put something like ribbing or seed stitch, also cowls are a great thing to make instead of a scarf

Knitting is more interesting if you learn to do different combinations of stitches. You did an awesome job!! Especially for your first attempt. You need to “block” your knitting to give it the shape you want. It’s more important with some yarns and patterns than with others. Hopefully you can do a search and find instructions on how to block your knitting.

Kudos to you on bringing up a topic so hard to speak or even think about. I just had a living will made about a year ago since my health has been rough the past couple years. It was the hardest thing I’ve done having to choose a caregiver for my son, who is also a zebra, if something happens to me. His dad passed away in 2016 and along with the EDS, I also carry a defective MYLK gene giving me aortic aneurysm risk. I had thought about it many times in my head but when his dad passed it put my butt into gear to speak to my family about my wishes and get it set in stone immediately. Such a very important topic to discuss with your loved ones if you are chronically ill. I highly commend your bravery in bringing it up! Continuing to send you well wishes and hope you can go home to your own bed soon. 💜

I commend you for taking time to do the will. It's incredibly hard to pick a caregiver for your children. But so important. I'm proud of you and I hope you find comfort in the knowledge your wishes will be known. I have EDS among other things. Sending good thoughts and well wishes for remaining as healthy as you can, your son too. Prayers and cheers.
@twiggy0429996 жыл бұрын
Thank you samiamisme 💜 I hope you are getting by as best as possible with your EDS. While my pesky aortic risk will never go away, I am thankfully for finally now being in the hands of an Autonomic Neurologist who is familiar with EDS and all of the other chaos (POTS and Orthostatic Hypotension) it has caused and getting me into the hands of others for the care I’ve needed for so long. He has got me into an Orthopedic last month who is currently assessing the damage in my neck, checking for Chiari and has also referred me to an immunologist to be checked for Mast Cell. And finally a PT order to treat me as a whole instead of one specific area at a time! At 38 a lot of damage has been done by previous doctors blowing me off, but I’m a tough cookie and go with the flow. It’s going to be an uphill battle but thankfully have direction and hope that I’m not going to physically keep spiraling downward. Mentally my kiddos (19 and 9) give me all the motivation to keep smiling and enjoy life as much as possible through it. As for my son’s care, I am extremely proactive with it and have had no issues with his pediatrician working with the geneticist and already have him in maintainence pt. All I ask the universe for is to see both of my kids into adulthood thriving and that the preventive measures we’re taking will keep them healthy. Thankfully my daughter does not exhibit any symptoms! 🙂🙏🏻

As of the moment no post office is open in about 70 counties and I can’t get anything out. But, I was able to send you a little something through Amazon. It’s not much. It’s not what I intended. The reason is because I always watch your videos to make me smile but I am having an especially high pain day, frustrations, or just realizing that you understand the struggle like no other. Please wish your mother a happy birthday. You should be getting a small package on Tuesday. It’s not much. When the post office is open back up and I can find everything and I have Consistent power, etc. I will definitely get your package to you at all. You are amazing and always make me smile. Hugs and love - Jamie Edit: hopefully should get there through Amazon on Tuesday. Again, thank you for making me smile. Oh! For your scarf, try "blocking" it. Honestly, the rolling issue is the nature of the stockinette stitch (the stitch pattern I see you went with for your pretty scarf). I always get rolling. But if you pin it out on, say, an ironing board or something, then spray it with water and let it dry in the flattened shape. Or get it wet first. Whichever works. ^_^ Hope that helps!
@ashkes.2666 жыл бұрын
The kind of stitch you're using (where one side looks different) just rolls by nature, but I believe knitting the first stitch of every purl row stops the edges from rolling in. I might just be remembering something wrong from my school days though. There's lots of youtube tutorials on it, I'm sure! Good luck!
@inarigitsune6 жыл бұрын
A couple of stitches in garter (knit stitch only) does help prevent the rolling, so you remember correctly. :)

Hi Christina, I'm so glad to see your smiling face in your vlogs. I follow you on Instagram as well and I've really been worried about your shunt surgery. I was told last month that I have Chiari malformation after seeing my neurologist for about four years. When you mentioned all your symptoms it helped me understand that I needed to tell neurologist and he blurts out that's probably the Chiari malformation. What? Anyway we are keeping an eye on symptoms. Your wheelchair moves we're awesome. I can barely manage an Iv pole lol. I love your mama. She is awesome. You can tell she loves you and your family a lot. I loved seeing your gifts. I have to say I had to order a happy pill. The thoughtful cards and gifts lifted my spirits. It is great to experience kindness. The scarf is beautiful. I have seen show on create/ PBS local. Called knit and crochet now, if I remember right it is from your stiches being too tight on a turn. I could be wrong. I have requested for a yarn haul from my hubby to start a new afgan for his truck. In case he has trouble this winter he will have blanket to keep warm. Anyway my vision ND tinnitus are getting annoying. I hope you and mama have a good night sleep. As good as you can get in hospital. Sending you love and hugs.

Don’t ever worry about uploading the videos late, it’s more important to take care of yourself and rest when you need to. As for the knitting, it won’t roll up like that if you make your stitches a little looser. I think I’ve heard that If you do knit a little to tight you can pin what you’ve knitted to a board stretched out a little bit and lightly spritz it with water then let it dry for a few days and it may uncurl. I’ve never tried it myself though. Knitting is indeed super time consuming! I made a blanket once a few years ago and it took me about four months to finish, but it’s still my favourite blanket ever! Hugs and good luck with the next surgery!
@VictoriousBard6 жыл бұрын
it's the stitch, the tension won't change that. Stockinette stitch (that stitch) will roll no matter what you do unless you block it or put a border of a stitch that doesn't roll. Better to just use a different stitch that doesn't roll if you don't want it to roll and don't feel like blocking it.
@hello_beeeez6 жыл бұрын
Larkin really? I’ve never had an issue with rolling and always use the stockinette stitch. I was taught to knit very loosely and if I do that rolling has never been a problem.
@VictoriousBard6 жыл бұрын
Cof2e2 If you knit with a really loose gauge, almost like lace, it probably won't roll, but the stitch is just inclined to roll. The best bet if you want it to not roll is to use a different stitch, because there are plenty of stitches that lie flat.

@darkbluematter17536 жыл бұрын
One thought on the kitting roll up: it’s normal but you can do a crochet slip stitch around the edges or a single crochet border which might help it lie flatter, if you feel like it. It’s not too hard to crochet into a knitted project. Probably lots of tutorials on that out there.
@VictoriousBard6 жыл бұрын
adding a border of a stitch that lies flat (seed stitch, ribbing, moss stitch, etc) works well too. If it's in the round, k2p2 ribbing on one too few stitches (just continue with the k2p2 as if you have enough stitches) makes a really cool spiral ribbing. Oh yea, fun trick if you want to do seed stitch knitting flat, if you do an odd number of stitches you can just repeat k1p1 for every row instead of needing to alternate.

@kiangreer6 жыл бұрын
The rolling is natural. You can 'block' it if it's wool, but it won't help too much. You can do a garter stitch border (knit on both sides, instead of knitting on the right side and purling on the back side), a ribbed border (any variation of mixing knit and purl stitches, usually kkppkkpp or something similar), knitting in the round, which can curl at the bottom a bit or a million other ways. I like an I-cord border on thin scarfs. Make sure you check out Knitty and Ravelry for free patterns and help.
@VictoriousBard6 жыл бұрын
yea, seed stitch also makes a pretty border or a nice overall stitch for a scarf
@pseudonymh6 жыл бұрын
Knitting like that will roll at the edges, but you can put a border around the edge to help with that either while knitting or after. If you use a pattern or stitch with some holes in it, it will go much faster! It’s kind of like crocheting a blanket with sc stitches. That’s what most of us learned first but wouldn’t want to do anything long or big with it! Hope the new shunt works properly and for a safe trip and speedy recovery ❤️

Christina, nobody has ever understood me about the taste and smell of Rocephin! Fish food flakes is exactly how I describe it!

Janna Zuniga lol! Me too! Rocephin is nasty. Heparin tastes like flowers and my tpn is like a mix of sickening sweet and rotten eggs!

you know, do whatever you can. Whenever I go into the hospital I knit. Which is kind of odd. But I can knit the most simple scarf while just watching a youtube or anything. You VLOG and edit which is hard.... and I know video screens are hard on eyes and vision. (I have special glasses for using the computer, prescription ones that were not cheap but work well!). BUT...whatever you get up is fine here. It's more important for you to get through this....without pressure to do ANYTHING.

My best friend passed away from c.f. a few months ago and when Claire died it brought back so many feelings. I've been really depressed since my friend died and I've been having a hard time coping with my EDS since. ☹

A couple of weeks ago my doctor had me sign a advanced care planing directive because my health is so in the shitter right now. I had to decide at the age of 24 if I want to get CPR if my heart stops or I stop breathing. I have really bad brittle bones and I recently broke my hand opening a Gatorade because I was about to pass out and I was trying raise my blood pressure.
@colormezebra28416 жыл бұрын
That is a t p ugh thing to think about. I just wanted to mention (as a first responder) the risk of breaking ribs and the chest plate/sternum is common when CPR is performed. Even with normal bones. If CPR is needed, you won't even know about the broken bones when its performed. But again, CPR will usually break some bones, sorry to say. But I wouldn't let that sway your decision to resuscitate or not.
@fifiweebunkinz27606 жыл бұрын
Color Me Zebra yeah I know it breaks ribs and I know mine will break easily. 😔 But I said I want CPR. I’m 24 if there’s a chance I can still live I would like to take it I guess.

I's so good to see you again I was worried about you but you're looking so much better. I was wondering if you're in the hospital in Hershey? It's supposed to be one of the finest! I live in a very small town and it was always a big treat for us to go to Hershey park. They have a big RV show there this week but I don't think we're going this year. Im Having computer problems. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend and hope you can get home soon. Sending prayers!

Hi Christina- Your eyes still look beautiful, even if they're acting funky. And you skin is absolutely flawless, you're a beauty inside and out. I've been worried about you so was happy to see the update. So sorry about the passing of Claire, that's heartbreaking. I am a 44 year old mom to a hyper 7 year old girl... and after a severe anaphylaxis episode in mexico last october my hEDS became super active & problematic and I finally received a diagnosis, as I've obviously had it my whole life. (I live in NYC not Mexico, was just visiting). I have a channel about family adventures and travel. Since last October I've made barely any final videos, lots of attempts...so, I took it off my to do list and will do them when I can. It's hard! Organizing all the content, cutting it all to feel seamless and delivering something people will want to watch requires a lot of mental organization, and neck, hand, arm exertion. Please don't stress out about it, although it sure was nice to see your newest post. Also, I'm sure you've done this, but I've gotten hooked on podcasts and audible books while being bored in the hospital. Your knitting is awesome! Wish my hands worked better, I'd love to pick that hobby up again. Anyway, just wanted to say hi, tell your mom how awesome she is, and stay strong girl! You're helping me make sense of the crazy journey we're on. You are making a difference. Sending much love your way! -Estee

You can fix the scarf by “blocking” the scarf! You basically wash the scarf in the sink with a mild shampoo, and rinse. Dry it in a towel, and pin it to the towel so it stays flat and let it dry! I found this link as well for more info! www.craftsy.com/knitting/article/blocking-knitting-tutorial/ hope this helps, there are other ways to do it as well such as steaming! :)

Awe, you have certainly been through the wringer! I know long term hospitalizations are no fun, but I'm so thankful you are there and getting better! Hopefully the new shunt will heal with no complications! To bad they can't install a zipper until the shunt Is healed and all adjusted!

The rolling on the sides of your scarf is just how knitting is with that type of stitch. If you alternate knit and purl stitches it would not roll on you so much. If you like the look of knitted things but do not 100% love knitting you could try loom knitting.

I was wondering if you have a PO box yet? Now that it seems like things are "settling down"🙏🤞, I was thinking of just sending your card on to your home so you don't have so much stuff to pack. 🦓💪💜

Awe I get all of the visual weirdness (floaters, pinpricks, squiggly lines, sparkles, zaps of light,....) Just not as intense as what you are having at the moment im sure. Lol your wheelchair contraption! Find the joy and have a good laugh! So sad about Claire but she served her purpose! People rally need to talk about death to be ready for it and aware of what needs to be done as also talk about life! Lol your mom while you were opening gifts. "Now that I'm 29 my skin is getting kind of dry- needing moist-ya" mom your too funny! I sure hope the Dr. Is able to help get you on better track! As alway great video into your life! gentle hugs to you my friend!
