Absolutely love all of your content. I did a module on the US Civil War a the University of Kent, and my module leader, Erik Mathisen managed to inspire a great amount of interest in me for this war, especially for a Brit!

Thanks so much for the peek at the Illinois monument. My great great grandfather was a surgeon with the 76th Illinois and his name is on the monument. This whole series has really helped me get a handle on what actually happened there.

Another unsung hero that doesn’t get talked about as much in the siege of Vicksburg is Benjamin Henry Grierson. Him and his Calvary diverted so many southern troops in the Vicksburg campaign luring them away from Grants masterplan. Went as far as putting southern uniforms on to confuse the enemy after a raid. This was called Grierson’s raid. William T Sherman commented on grierson’s raid calling it the “finest moment of the campaign”Ironically before the war when he was young he was scared of horses due to a incident. But he grew to be confident with them He would give the south a major morale blow by beating Forrest’s Calvary in battle. (One of the kkk founders and Forrest Gump family relative). after the war Benjamin would help to form the Buffalo troops with African Americans. He was criticized for working with blacks. Another criticism he was given by his war buds such as Philip sherdian when Benjamin treated the Indians humanly and positively during the Indian wars after the civil war

Keep pumping out the original content as it keeps improving. My suggestion would be more visual aids like maybe adding more still images of what you’re talking about. Pictures of the people involved etc.

Chris, timestamp 1:30 looks very like the image you have as your desktop wallpaper. If it's the same monument it must be A little odd to get so close to something so familiar for the first time.

He’s kinda like a real life Ned Flanders and I mean that in the best way possible. I doubt Ned would drink Mountain Dew but VTH is a multi dimensional character haha.

That poor Kansas monument is the worst state monument you’ll ever see on a Civil War battlefield. It was clearly some kids 4th grade art project.

Good video! I've been by the Texas monument hundreds of times and never noticed the beard, or it's been so long that I totally forgot. I'm glad to see Fort Hill and the Yazoo canal. It's been too long since I've been through there. I'm excited to see if you do a video about the USS Cairo.

That terrain is typical of the terrain just a few miles down the road from where I live. As you get closer to the Mississippi River it looks very much like the Vicksburg terrain. I’m in west Tennessee.

My mother went to Vicksburg and she pick up a book that was written by a woman that survived the siege. It's called "My Cave Life" and I gotta say it's a pretty interesting book. And as a Missourian I am so happy that our monument is better than the Kansas one.

Chris, love the series. I am a Civil War historical reenactor and love researching the subject. I recently came across an old photo album that contains original Civil War Ohio Volunteers portraits. I want to send the images I found to you, via email. Maybe one of them are related or served with one of your ancestors.

Which way did Grant get his supplies and reinforcements to the siege? From New Orleans? I can't imagine he kept a supply line going straight under the riverside guns of Vicksburg.

Hi Chris....greetings from the UK. Really enjoy your channel and content. A little unrelated I know to your current series but would appreciate you taking the time to have a look at the following video (link below) which I believe with your interest in WW2 & affinity toward us Brits, will find interesting. It was recorded back in the early 2000’s and there have been a couple of recipients since it was filmed. Hope you find the time and enjoy. Warmest wishes...keep up the great work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJO2ZXysoZ1ofbM
