That was the first time he sang the song in public. He wasn't going to record and release it. But Bluegrass and Country legend Ricky Scaggs told him that he absolutely had to, that people needed to hear it. Few weeks later, he released it as a single, and with the help of fellow artists like Blake Shelton, it went to #1. It's helped countless people struggling with grief and loss.

Beautiful reaction. Thank you. Craig's son was 19 yrs old when he passed away in a boating accident. This was his 1st time singing the song Live. When he walked backstage he said he would never do that again. Blake Shelton helped him to get through and he sang it for the 2nd time on Kelly Clarkson Show. He's been signing it since.

@Sonia C I know Ricky told him to record it I was referring to Blake telling him he had to perform it and Blake campaigned on Twitter saying he'd gladly give up his place on the charts for Craig and this song because people needed to hear it. Craig Morgan is one of the most underrated musicians there is. He is one of the most talented and just incredible artists out there. He isn’t just a country music artist either he was a US Army Combat Medic 8 years, a firefighter for a moment and a deputy sheriff and a few other jobs as well. Craig Morgan is one of my favorite artists of all time. Go listen to his other songs and get ready to grab a few tissues for the water works! He is the epitome of an American Patriot and country music artist.

One if the best reactions to this song. I watch every single reaction I see on this one. It hits so deep for people. That particular performance is one that he did not want to do, and afterwards he said he wouldn't do it live again. I think he has since then, but man...how difficult that must be. I also read that the lyrics came to him one night and he got up and wrote them down. With the exception of a few minor words, the lyslrics sung today are the same ones he wrote down in one sitting, right after his son drowned. So terribly sad.

I remember that feeling, when I lost my daughter, back in the mid-80s. It took me over 5 years to get out of that slump, and I can't tell you how much whiskey I drank in that time. I can't tell you how many relationships I lost due to that. It cost me my Naval career. It's not 30 plus years later, I found myself a good woman, who has blessed me with three more children. I heard it tell you the hardest thing to do is bury a child.
