I did not realize the secret of Amber’s character until I had finished the whole trilogy. It was a little bit of a “were you even paying attention?” moment because so many things clicked into place! One thing I was proud of myself for catching is in Mad Ship, I think, when Etta is reading a book of herbs and plants. I always wondered if that was the book from the Farseer books. I’ve never heard anyone mention it though. I love these discussions!

Oh I hadn't thought of that before but that would be so cool if it is!

YES! I had an exam today and I just got back and I'm taking some time to chill (before jumping into studying for my next one) and this is the best way! Liveship is great. Just all of them. I agree, you should totally start with Farseer. I've talked to people who've started with Liveship and went back to Farseer and just regretted it. I love all the characters from Liveship (I definitely had a rough journey with Malta at times, but I love all of them by the end). Kennit is such an interesting character and I related to Althea so much. Just the worldbuilding in that trilogy is incredible. Kyle is the WORST. I love Brashen. THE PARAGON! My small child. Hobb tackles tough issues SO well and I love that that's something we get to see (in the whole series). Keffria frustrates me a lot too. I adore Ronica. I didn't remember that Reyn was 21, but yeah definitely very Renaissance-like. I hate that she loves Kyle, but she does have an interesting arc and that's why I ended up loving her. I love the tie-ins. And particularly with the Skill. It's fascinating to see it all unfold. I just love it so much. AMBER! I love her and I love that she's the Fool. It's so good! I figured it out super early (in book 1 actually) it was the gloves and the woodcarving that gave it away. I KNOW about Ship of Destiny! I don't get how some people didn't see it. SHE CARVED FITZ'S FACE ONTO PARAGON! It took me a long time to connect the dots about the serpents. I just kind of saw them as sea dragons. We had stone dragons in Farseer (earth dragons) and then Liveship had the serpents aka sea dragons, but then later we realize it's kind of a 3 in one deal - serpents - sea dragons, but they become both earth dragons and air dragons too and it's so cool to watch that journey unfold. Great video Samantha :).

Paragon is one of my favorites from Liveship. Malta's story arch is amazing - also if you consider the Rain Wild Chronicles. I can't remember when I figured out Amber was the Fool. But I remember you mentioning we needed to pay attention to her character, and so at some point with all the hints, I figured ti out.

All the hints for the Amber/Fool thing are so great!

Ok, so you might remember my e-mail after I finished the trilogy when I finally figured out who Amber was (while writing the e-mail). I think the reason why it took me so long was that I tried to put every hint together to find a lady from Six Duchies. I just completely forgot that someone was never mentioned as being male or female. It still blew my mind and when I knew everything fell into place.

YES! You figured it out pretty quick! Love how Hobb did it it all!

This book was actually hard for me to get into because of the writing. I find it a bit different from the books focused on Fitz. I like the Liveship story but sometimes the writing coupled with all the heartwrenching situations bogged me down. Still, I appreciated it for all the themes explored. Hobb went deep in this one. And ugh! Malta! Hated her in this book; never would have believed I would end up liking her later. Althea was my fav and I loved her with Brashen :) Also loved Paragon. Can't remember if I picked up on the Six Duchies references but now that you mentioned it, I find it funny that Althea considers Six Duchies people as similar to the Outislanders. And I'd forgotten that the serpents could glamour people. I wonder if Liveships can do the same. Maybe that's the pull Wintrow was fighting against because it didn't feel natural.

Paragon was the absolute best! He may be one of my favorite characters from Liveships and his character development was just as good as Malta's!

Hello Samantha I was curious what Robin Hobb book do you recommend to someone who hasn't read her books but really wants too? Also have you read game of thrones? If so what are your opinions? I'm going to begin the first book tonight and I'm quiet intrigued by the books. From Bethany xx

I definitely recommend reading them in publication order starting with the Farsser trilogy...they all build off one another! I've rad GOT till Feast of Crows where I rage quit LOL The series was just not for me. I ended up hating almost everyone

😮 damn I should have finished my coffee. I thought you meant spoilers for this book but it's for the next one? I mean I guess this is good because I was not totally interested in continuing the trilogy. I had such a hard time reading Ship of Magic. Malta was unbearable! I didn't like Wintrow until the end of the book. I sort of liked Althea but there were a lot of eye rolling moments. Amber was cool! I loved the magic, and I guess I liked the story. Based on my experience though I gave the beginning ok two stars 😬 I think I will continue though. I gave the Farseer trilogy each 4.5 or 5 stars.

I love watching your realms of the elderlings videos. I love them so much, unfortunately I've listened to the books rather than reading them so hearing you say "jah- my- lah" rather than "jah- may-lee- ah" is weird
