Mince pies are all about carol singing and mulled wine / port like wines. It is a fantastic little treat and not only served in the UK, but eaten in many english speaking countries including the southern hemisphere. Also New England US. It originates from the 13th century from Middle Eastern spices. A freshly baked mince pie is quintessentially Christmas!!

Aww Taylor, you just never fail to make my smile. 😊 Your joy is so magnetic. Your happiness getting into the black taxi & then trying the mince pies. I LOVE them, but I appreciate they are not for all. They divide a lot of opinion in the UK too. They are a snack/desert & the name comes from ‘to mince’/ make a small dried fruit pie. Try Mr Kipling minced pie it’s good and try to heat it a bit.. there is a place called atis very close to you they sell really nice salad Bowles.. farm girl & granger & co but there will be a line the food is good too.. if you have time go to buvette it’s French cafe and beside it the bookshop from the movie Notting hill.. enjoy your time & stay safe :)) worth not wearing ur engagement ring just to stay safe :))

The secret and less appealing ingredients in mincemeat is beef suet. The fruit and nuts would be good. Not so much beef suet.

You can get suet free these days. I live in Canada and I use that for my mincemeat tarts.

Mince pies used to contain meat a long time ago, hence why foreigners often think they still do because of their name. It’s an acquired taste for sure, I never like them as a kid (I’m Scottish/English) but it grows on you. Their filling are dried fruit and spices, you gotta like raisins but they are best warmed up (10 to 15 sec in a microwave but make sure to take the metal foil off first). Can’t wait to see what you guys get up to tmrw!!! ☺️💕

Long ago they did put meat in it. There is dates, apples, etc. in it. Kerry Gold butter from Ireland has a great herb butter!

I’m very surprised that you took your engagement ring with you. I know it’s so very important to you, but if it were to get lost or stolen, that would be awful, especially out of the country. Yes, I’m sure it’s insured - but a replacement would just that - a replacement. Whenever we travel I wear a pretty, but inexpensive CZ “engagement ring” and “wedding ring”, and leave my real rings at home where I know they’re safe. You might consider that in the future when you travel.

Respectfully, what makes your country safer than someone else's? She lives in a busy city already. If anything, London is safer than NYC, especially the areas that she's visiting.

@@Ooshy - equally respectfully, I leave my rings at home when we travel in my country, too - especially somewhere new to us. I was in no way being disrespectful to the UK or its citizens - far from it. I was merely attempting to bring something to Taylor’s attention.
