Waiting at the level crossing for the train brought back happy memories of my uncle Bill and aunty Mary.They lived in the depths of the Norfolk countryside and Uncle Bill manually operated the level crossing.A bell would ring and he would go and lower the barriers and then raise them when the train had gone through.Aunty Mary would really complain about my Uncle always being on the toilet when the bell rang in the wee early hours and Aunty Mary would trudge out in her nightie to work the barriers ! 😂

Next time you add elastic, put a safety pin on the end of your elastic to pull it through Works like a charm
@talesfromcuckoolandАй бұрын
Is there another way of threading elastic? I was using a big safety pin and it was pulling on that on that was causing the distortion of the elastic. I’ve managed it now and I love the skirt!

Your skirt is really lovely. It looks terrific on you and pockets.. oo so comfy. If you run into the same elastic issue again, my mom taught me a trick- use a safety pin and attach to pull it through - somehow that makes it so much easier all around. Loving your daily vlogs!!
@talesfromcuckoolandАй бұрын
That’s how I was doing it but pulling on the one spot to get all that fabric ruched up made it distort. I’m pretty pleased either way my work around though as it did the job nicely!

Your skirt turned out fab, and great blouse find at the charity shop, can’t beat a bargain. I have had exactly this problem whilst making a TAL cuff dress this past week, Gayna. I managed (eventually) to get it all in flat, sewed it together and sewed up the channel opening. BUT, BUT!!! As soon as I wore it, it all curled up - Aaargh. Think I need to re-feed, stitching at maybe 6-8" intervals. Your skirt looks just lovely, i especially like the way you have made the back. When I saw you about to flick that bit of butter into the pan I thought, oh no, that flick on a hot day, could just as easily send the butter back into that beautiful crisp, white shirt! I was relieved when you decided the pan was not warm enough, heh.

What a lovely day you had! I'm so glad you took the day to enjoy your making. Your swing view of your garden is extraordinary! May I ask the history of your house? I'm curious as to why it looks like it is two houses "put together"...Thanks for sharing your day with us!!❣
@talesfromcuckoolandАй бұрын
The original part, the cream render, is 200 years old and is the old farmhouse of the farmland. But over the years they sold off the land as they stopped farming. We bought it as just a house with one out building 20 years ago. We knocked down a cold and crappy extension and built the stone part of the house. We couldn’t get planning for it to be rendered at the time but we can now so we are going to do that next year. The stone gets too hot in the summer and is porous in the winter because we are so exposed up here. Xxx
