I started skating around 4 years ago and haven't thought much about what it was like when I first began learning ollies and 180s. This video gave me a sense of nostalgia because I remember experiencing all of these problems. It took me so long to figure out how to keep my ollies straight. It took me weeks to get my 180s to rotate fully. SO many hours spent in carparks practising ollies and fs180s. I look back on that time fondly because I really thought that I wasn't good enough to learn those tricks, but now I have dozens of tricks and I look forward to the future when I learn dozens more.

Very helpful video thank you. I restarted skating after 20 years and now I see in my case the mental is most important. Now I really force myself to not visualize a bad landing like I used to do. When you visualize/expect a bad landing, you get scared and you just don't want to try and land at all, so you send your board flying or land with one foot of or something.

For me I found that part of the reason my board was flying away on kickflips was just that I was kicking too hard using my whole leg. It's more about having a controlled flick of the ankle, your leg doesn't actually need to kick much at all. If you use the full power of your entire leg you'll just kick it far away and won't get the precise motion you need to consistently flip the board properly. Dial the power way down and focus on refining the little flick that your foot does. You need a lot of precision but not very much power. As for heel flips.....good question, I can't do em either.....heh heh

My biggest problems were/are how much my feet and ankles hurt from the concave of the board and the constant "steering" to go straight while pushing (regular). I'm almost 38 and just bought my first skateboard 2 months ago. The guy in the skateshop, where I bought my board from, was giving my advice on how to ollie and do kickflips while I still have problems going straight while pushing. After 100 meters or so my left foot hurts so much from balancing and steering that I have to get off the board and sit down. Getting older sucks.

@PHeMoX5 жыл бұрын
To not ollie slightly turned upon landing, it is also useful to have your forward arm more stretched towards toe side and backside arm more towards the heel side of your board. The issue is most likely not in the shoulders, but rather the arm movements and most likely the backfoot doing slightly more of a scoop motion than a true pop down into the ground. I'm sure the angle of the backfoot matters too, although that can be balanced out with just the arms.
