This was a useful tutorial. Short, Easy, and explains many things. I like it if someone goes over shelf tools and explains the different things int hem so you understand them (instead of reading through the documentation). Would be awesome if you had chosen a normal sand behaviour so the sand flies all over and rendered the whole scene out, so you see if the result is realistically looking. I dont exactly know what you did at the end tho? Why did you visualize the ball in the grain sop as smoke? Was it about rendering? I thought you put a null under the ball, then import it into your dop, link particles and ball, then Cache it, then render the cache? Also the roberto running gag never gets old :D
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
Hi, glad you found it useful, normal dry sand wouldn't be able to have a shape like that, needs to be wet, At the end I add the ball in the DOP imports to cache it at the same time since it reacts to the sand, if you cache it separately you'll have to simulate everything twice :) that's why
@Marienkarpfen7 жыл бұрын
Oh so that ball is the actual modeled sphere you created around minute 10? I thought you always had to reference it in some way. Good to know!
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
yes is that ball we are using to collide with the sand
@caveman3575 жыл бұрын
@@MIXTraining Why didn't you just keyframe the ball? Why put velocity on the points? Is there some type of advantage?
@MIXTraining5 жыл бұрын
@@caveman357 is different, if I keyframe it, it won't react back to the sand mass and friction, it would just move, adding velocity we are making the whole system dynamic

Great tutorial! Quick question: Any idea on how to animate the Sphere (ball) so it stops after moving? I can't wrap my head around attribute wrangle and the vexpressions. I want it to move to y +1 and stop.
@MIXTraining4 жыл бұрын
If you need the sphere to do something specific just animated as any other object and import it to dops as a static deforming object
@felipe_ai7 жыл бұрын
Really amazing bro, how would you shade this or render it?
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
Just render it, is all prepared to render, the grains have color and attributes to render, for my test I just placed lights, camera and render, didn't add any shader

Hi amazing tutorial !!! I have a question, how can I say to awaken by geometry to influence just one of the object? Because I have a castle and the ground, and I don't wont the awaken by geometry influence my ground. Can you help me?
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
When you set the awaken by geometry it only uses what you tell it to use, in my case I just used the ball to wake them up
@Lorelei3477 жыл бұрын
I resolved thanks! I discover that you can say to the awaken to exclude an object. Now I have an other question sorry, how can I say to the ball to hit the castle ( I want the ball tuck the castle just a little bit) an then I want it come back from the same position of frame one. How can I do it? I think I need to add something to the script of the attribute wrangle, but I realy don't know how.Thanks so much for your patient :)
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what you want, but you could just animate the ball doing whatever you want if you don't want to simulate the movement

sry for the rookie question, but when I use awakenbygeometry the ball bounces back from the castle. And it remains still, like it would bounce against a wall, what have I done wrong?
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
When you add more particles the MASS of the castle increments so you need to increment the MASS of the Ball to compensate I actually mention that in the tutorial 13:34 Cheers!

Hey, got a problem with grains in houdini. Why is it sooo slow? I mean, even when i turn the simulation off as well as the display node just to adjust the settings, it somehow keeps "Baking" and my mouse turns into a clock icon. Also, when i save it to disk,and when i enable "play back simulation" and the timeline is purple, why does it say its baking again?? E.g. cooking OP Grain_particles. Even though i have simmed it to disk, i cant play it smoothly. Its only got 3M points, and it feels like 300M However, i have no problems with FLIPs. Any ideas? thanks
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
maybe you saved t o disk but didn't load from disk, maybe try disabling the sim node completely
@VFXLtd7 жыл бұрын
I actually used the AutoDOP out node to save it out. Is there a difference between this and grain particles DOP I/O ?
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
did you cache the result or the .sim files, cause that's different
@VFXLtd7 жыл бұрын
Seems like the problem occurs when i press "upres sand". Do i upres sand and cache first, or cache and then upres?
@MIXTraining7 жыл бұрын
cache when ever something is slow :) first cache the sim, then you can upres that but that will be slow, so if you want cache that as well

try activating OpenCL in the grain update node I found that is more stable

openCL add some weird behavior to my sand, but anyway, I increased constraint iterations and bouncing energy almost disappeared.

nice tutorial and tips dude, love your channel, i tried this weekend, but the result same line him, huge pile of sand felt down it has some kind of exploding bounce, still figure it out why, turn on opencl, increased constrain, do you have any tips for that, this happen when i'm tried hi-res simulation with small particle separation. thanks anyway
