Maybe this is what you need. More fun! More running up pretty mountains, fewer bike paths, and more beer! Can't think of a better way to put an end to a slump of sorts.

I probably don't need more beer...everything in moderation...but yes, I think training all winter/spring on the pavement (bike paths in Boulder) actually messed with my form more (Quad dominance). Now that I'm back to mountain-trails and climbing it is starting to feel more natural again and I'm looking to work the Glutes/Hamstrings and Calfs a bit more like i used to. I mean running on pavement is just really unnatural (I probably did like 90% of all my miles on it this past winter...which I think was a mistake). Looking back on it now I can't believe I didn't get injured...guess i have sturdy bones!

I watched this video last night and then hiked Mount Elbert today as currently on holiday in Colorado. It made me realise what an incredible athlete you are. I'm a sub 40 min 10k runner and my wife is sub 45 mins so not unfit yet it took us over 7 hours with breaks. Could have probably done in 5-6 if we really had too but to do in under 2:30 is quite insane. I'm not an experienced hiker but even if I had supreme fitness, I wouldn't have the skill to run down what is a very steep and scree filled mountain trail, it was hard enough walking it at times.

Damn, i live in northern Scandinavia and here most mountains are like 2000 meters, and the highest villages are at maybe 800m. The trails up in the mountains are still amazing scenery and it's a lot of fun to run through but it isn't really altitude training, I wish we would have that kind of altitude up here. Great work Sage, seemed like a lot of fun - I'd love to go to Colorado one day. I really enjoyed the video you posted from my home town of Umeå, hope you enjoyed it here despite the fact the trails aren't 10% of what they are up in the mountains closer to Norway. Have a good one

Thanks for another great video - always enjoy them :). Currently working on low heart rate aerobic base training. Fairly new to running as a lifestyle (only a few years) and am nearing 40! Never did invest enough time in this zone and suffered repeated injuries because of it. Happy to say my body is happy and handling more consistent running and higher mileage now! Trying to be patient and trust the process so I can work on the faster paces for my race in October - the Machete 7! 😀

I recently ran up my first mountain, about 5.5 miles up and 5.5 down. Running up mountains is awesome... very hard, but what you get is 100% worth it! Btw it was not a super high incline like the one you ran up and started at 2,000 feet above sea level and ended at about 4,500 - 4,750 ft. That run was INSANE!

I do get a bit of vertigo from the ridgeline view though, I think I have even more issues with youtube heights then real ones.

Interesting that you offered OS shipping on the hats but didn't offer it to military addresses (APO/FPO). I tried to order one and it simply wasn't an option. I commented several times to you IG asking for it but no response. Hopefully you come out with more and make that an option. Big fan, love your channel and other social media (and Coach Sandi, as I'm a RADrabbit and follow all their pros), and have purchased run plans. Just wanted to support! Also, why aren't you going to Canazei for the Dolomyths Run Sykyrace for the GTWS? Too short of a course for you? Serious question! I've completed that race (formally Dolomites Skyrace) 5 times, which I'm pretty sure is the most of any American. It's an awesome race! I was just in Canazei last week playing on the course but unfortunately I had to return from leave before the race next weekend! Hopefully you get a chance to race it some day! Looked for you at Chaminox during Mont Blanc Marathon weekend but was only there one night and didn't spot ya! Best of luck at Pike's! Show less
@Vo2maxProductions

Hey I've shipped to APO/FPO before. It must have just not been a form option on the website when I designed the webpage ( it was not intentional). That being said the hats were a limited time thing (We aren't doing them currently but may start again in the future). Also, sorry but I don't get any Instagram or Facebook messages....esp personal ones. If I don't follow you on Instagram it goes straight to my spam folder... On another note, I was going to do Dolymyths run but after Mont Blanc I decided I needed to rest more, travel less and try to get my racing focus back. I feel bad about missing out on the race, but I just needed more time to recover from Mont Blanc. Thanks for your support!

It is not a really criticking comment, but it is going to be about your diet. Last time we talked about B12 and now I'd like to add in some veganisme related issues I can see. No science here, just open eyes and it is about processed foods . Don't you think that you eat too much of them ? I mean, that you are eating a high carb vegan diet. The most nutritious foods for you are fresh, raw, ripe, organic, local, in-season, hand-picked, unpackaged, unprocessed fruits and vegetables. Of course periodisation of these are crucial, due to the high fibre content, but that is a different topic. Normally you should get at least 51% of your total calories from raw sources for optimal health and perf, DAILY ! For instance, eating / drinking a giant banana smoothie (yes like 10 bananas for instance with a handful of dates, adding apples to your oil free salad, jamming down like 15 peaches when in season. The rest of the %s are also important and processed means, could be cooked, not necessarily conserved, packaged, highly factory-processed. Why would you bring for instance frozen spinach, when you can pick up a fresh bag of spinach, as it can stay proper without fridge for days, even if it was 30°C. Raw carrots, raw cabbage, all can be kept for long time, with no fridge. You brought one single banana ! When we travel, even for multiple days, we often pack unripe bananas, some avocados for hiking days, hard nectarines what becomes, soft after 3 days, yellow melons, loads of dates. At the evening the rice, the pasta, polenta, fonio, whatever is fulfilling, but even in this case, we prefer, fire cooked potatoes, sweet potatoes and so. I recommend you, as a fellow reader, to get through some Ann Wigmore books, the 80/10/10 diet from Doug Graham or even that Carb the f..k up from Harley and of course Starch Solution. Even old videos of Mike Arnstein can be interesting. I wouldn't take any of these granted though in their fullest, but might find some great ideas and information about percentages of raw/cooked/factory processed, what you can use in your own personalised approach. I'd really look into your diet, as you might find that some days, you might not even consume 5% of your total calories from raw sources and that your goal high carb diet, might not be that high carb, due to oil, fat, peanut butter and so consumption. Couple of tbsp of oil oil, 100g of peanut butter, some nuts and seeds, coconut oil and boom, you got like 600 calories from fat or even more, what is going to be at the same carb/fat/protein ratio like a SAD diet. Sources matter of course, it is not that clear cut... What do you think ?
@levi_athle
@levi_athle 5 жыл бұрын
@Skyler.G Well, if it was processed, like blended, cooked home, steamed home or chewed by your teeth, not it doesn't mean. If it is store bought in a package with a date of expiry and a list of ingredients , yes it does mean that it is a compromise to your health ! No there is not one diet suitable for every body, nor there is one diet what works all the time for the same person. However there is the base what do not change and that is quality and an quantity of raw food, like fruits and veggies in the diet, quality and quantity of hydration, quantity of sleep and much more in order to achieve and to keep optimal health... You say everyone's body is different. I say we are all humans and when basic human needs are achieved every single human has the same reaction and the same results !!! No exception ever !!! That means that when you give vegan pizza, carrot juice and peanut butter to every body, yes you'll have different results... When giving oil free starches alone, bananas, lettuce and spinach, peaches, basically fruits and veggies loads of sleep and quality mineral rich water, sunshine, fresh air, emotional poise, fresh air, grounding and outdoor time... the results are the same. Athlete, sedentary, old or young ! Lean and energised body for ever !!!

Do not feel judged. Everybody does what they want and follow their route paved by their own decisions. I just like to discuss with Sage, because he is thinking a lot about the effect of all external factors on his run training, run perf and race readiness. Nutrition is one of them and he cares, thinks and changes if needed to adapt to his besoins !
