I've been listening to this on repeat since it turned up on the notifications earlier today. The part with untranslated Sundanese lyrics is apparently part of a traditional song. As a side issue it seemed to me that they had allowed this to filter into the melody at points which has contributed to a sense of longing that I'm picking up on. In their explanation they've generalised the mighty island as the earth, but I wondered if there is not also some aspect of Indonesia's colonial past entailed. Love your reaction as always. It makes me reflect on my own first response to this song. I'm never surprised by VoB, whereas I'm always amazed by them.
