About the chorus I thought the same as you the first time I listened to this performance. Now, I came to think it gives me a sense of a background message. In sufi music you need to understand the poetry and the layered meaning by the way...this music and this poetry are mystic. I notice many of those who react to this notice that they are seated on the floor. In this culture it is more natural to sit in that position.

@UNCLE MOMO, I know you did not expect this kind of singing from the two legends. This kind of jamming is called “Aalap” in our language which in literal English conversion means “To meet and greet.” Here one singer leaves a note for the other to catch up and take it to his or her level. To answer the next question that you had is if the chorus was necessary or not. The answer is ‘YES ABSOLUTELY!’ The reason is that it is a form of song known from the ancient times as “Quali” “Ka+Wa+Li” where the chorus plays an important part not only to give the singer a breather, but also creates an ambience in those times where there were no pianos and drums and guitars. We had only “Harmonium”, “Tabla”, “Sarangi”, “Sitar” to go along with it as instruments, and how can I forget “Clapping” is also an important part which the drummer was implementing via technology 😜. Lastly, the name of the song was correct but the names of the singers were “A+Bid+A” “Par+Veen(just like ‘win’ with a ‘V’)” and “Raa+Hat” “Fa+Teh(Te)” “Aa+ Li(Lee)” “Khan”. Hope this helps you.😊😊😊

All correct apart from Parveen. Sounds the way it’s written. Not “win” with a V more like “wean” with a V, like weaning off something

Abida Parveen dont go crazy she just makes you crazy with her voice and magic and puts u in a trance and guaranteed goose bumps even if u hear her millionth time, there is no better singer alive than her, she is for female artists what Nusrat (Uncle and teacher of Rahat) was for male singers. BTW I know u mean well and who wouldn't just want to listen to those two legends alone but you are new to this kind of music, trust me these chorous/backing vocals are must and have been for centuries in this kind of music which is probably the most authentic/vetted music in the world passed over centuries and generations.

First I’ll say that everything you state is 100 % true. But true for any other genre of music. This is Sufi music and poetry. This is a delivery of a message. The background singers are what stays on the middle message with the masters crisscrossing over it. You are critiquing as just another music piece. The Sufi music is to be listened to non stop WITH NO INTERRUPTIONS. the subtitles should be off for any other song but this is not any other music. It’s like religion. Would you be stopping a sermon and keep standing up with your interruptions ? I think not. I hope you take my humble opinion in the spirit in which it is written. During their singing to try to mimic them would be considered highly disrespectful. Not your fault though. It’s like a religion. Sufi. .

I can try to understand what you mean when you say the chorus was not necessary. But I hope your mind changes when you view the song with the subtitles. The chorus brings nuances to the song in a very soft and gentle way (compared to the powerful impact of the main singers), as well as rounds up and imparts the deep meaning and message of the song as the refrain is sung by them.

Right? Was shocked when he said they're not needed. Sure, the two main singers are beautiful, and amazing but the backup singers add the extra spice in the performance. A sense of togetherness, singing together and filling in the space in between and balancing it. I do believe it would feel rather empty without the backups.

You say you don’t put on subtitles. Fine. But your constant pauses and trying to insert yourself into it takes away from the flow. Plus your pathetic attempt to sing along and matching these masters is so disrespectful towards the singers. If you are going to attempt to listen to other lands music you might as well learn the antiquates of listening quietly. Save your comments for after the song. Very disappointing.
