@@lakescry. Shrill isn't really an insult. It literally just means high-pitched and piercing- Literally any note above F#5 is shrill regardless of how a person sounds. And strained...? Not really. Strain happens when the vocal folds are overworked and/or have a hard time coming together. If you feel a lot of effort coming from the vocal folds, then yes, that's strain but any tension Ariana has is higher in her throat and away from the vocal folds.

Its bc she can keep the same coordination from F5/G5 (that is around her 1 mixed passaggio) to (at least) Bb5 before her voice flips to the masked voice (that would be her 2nd passaggio in the mixed voice). ppl normally uses a lot of sinus resonance that to reach the note easily and keep that very cyrstal bright quality (but also comes with a very heady mix and frontal placement). Ariana's placement is more of a balanced nasopharynx, so it feels more backwards and connected to her voice (1 passaggio in her mix) as she goes up the scale resuming: there's no break in the coordination used
