RAYE has been making music for 10+ years, and the 7 years prior to this album's release, she was stuck in an abusive record label. Basically, she would be writing for some of the biggest names in music, but when it came to her own music, she was only allowed to make dance/edm music, and often wasn't credited fairly for it. She was denied an album the entire time until she finally broke free from her label and went independent with her first ever album: My 21st Century Blues!! She has shocked the world, and there is so much more of her to see! I hope you analyze more of her performances! She is one of the best around!!

Just curious why best new artist , was it because she started fresh from her label split .?
@rjs20359 ай бұрын
@@tomwhite4736 I searched for a bit and can't find the exact criteria that the BRITS Awards uses to select their nominees for Best New Artist. I do know that it doesn't always mean "new" as in actually being a new artist on the scene, but can also mean "new" as in having just recently had a breakthrough into the scene. For instance, the Grammy's criteria is: you must have a minimum of 5 singles or 1 complete album, or a maximum of 3 complete albums, and a maximum of 3 nominations for the category. Meaning, their total time in the spotlight has less to do with it than the amount of projects they have. Victoria Monèt won the Best New Artist Grammy, but has been making/releasing music for 10+ years. However, since she has not made more than 3 complete albums or been nominated more than 3 times, she was still able to be nominated and win. If the BRITS use a similar criteria, then it would make sense why an artist who doesn't seem "new" (like RAYE) would win. My guess is that it had more to do with her first ever complete album having a huge breakthrough than it did with her actually being new to the industry, since she isn't.

word, that's also one thing that strikes me about her, besides all of her other incredible qualities: she's so musical and so connected to both herself and her audience, she never delivers a song the same way twice, makes it sound new and different and exciting each and every time... You could make an entire album with just versions of one song by her, acoustic, studio production, live with band, orchestral version... and every one is unique and beautiful in its very own way... A concert from Argentina sounds different than the one in Chile... Long time since an artist got me hooked like she did a few weeks ago, can't stop listening to her...

💯% agree Almost like the studio version is just how she felt singing it that day. Kelly Clarkson also does this so well. Amy took it too far (probably too fucked up as time went on which is sad) I just wish she sang the bridge/middle 8 like the studio and earlier performances cuz I legit put that bit on loop

For Raye to only be 26 years old her voice is so fkn mind blowing Raye has been in the industry since she was 14 years old but she's just now getting recognition because her label wouldn't allow her to release music they only wanted her to write for other artists and they used her for certain things that a person shouldn't have to go through so once she left her label back in 2021 she was only 25 and now she's 26 doing what she's waited nearly a decade to do and if you haven't definitely check out her album 21st century blue's

And your excitement, infectious and insight, so valuable! Second: you KNOW when you hear a full symphony backing up a performer that you’re in for something special. I loved this woman!!! Hi Linne! Basically, the only way that you can hold onto.Really long notes is to hold back the breath as long as possible. Because she is singing in a thick of chest voice quality.It's much easier to hold back the breath and you don't need A lot of breath to create the sound in the first place. First control is something I go into and one or two with my videos but I do have An entire course on breathing as part of my vocal academy if you wanted to check that out.

@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach Sorry but that isn’t correct. Middle C is C4 as it is the fourth C on a piano. So B above middle C would be B4. C5 is high tenor C and C6 is high soprano C. Raye belts a B4 here.
