I like that you can appreciate the nuances of pop singing. For a purist, almost every pop singer is "straining" because of the stylistic choices they make. But you can make those stylistic choices and still be supported and relaxed. It's not the way your college voice teacher will see it, because for many vocal professors, anything pop-ish is trash and sounds bad. Even gospel music is not pure enough for some.

I would not agree that JK was straining his vocals at the end there. His whole rendition of the song on Mask Singer was 1000 times better than the original & beautifully done. He literally sounded angelic & everything was so perfect. The softest & kind of light breathiness is just incredible to hear.

I have to say that he has the best resonance in Kpop not to mention his vocal tecniques and control. He is a senior of EXO ,also in the SM entertainment in a group called Super Junior. although its been a bit since the time of release, I would really love it, if you reacted to the 'be' album by bts, that came out last year. it has some really amazing songs, like 'dis-ease' which has an incredible bridge, which is produced and written by j-hope. 'blue and grey' which really shows others and especially v's, deep voice, which is also produced and written by v. 'stay' which has some amazing vocals from jin and jungkook, also produced and written by jungkook, as well as other amazing fun, poppy songs like 'telepathy', written and produced by suga and 'fly to my room', which jimin and other members also participated in the producing and writing. anyway, i would love it, if you reacted to these, and i'm positive you would love the songs too!

A strain will always sound different than a supported one. But of course the stylistic choices and the song choice will always be part of the performance. Its the singer’s practice that will make it work to find their correct vocal placement and if your idols sings in strain please accept that maybe something happened during the performance or its just how he take that note.

Does having abs help when singing? To rephrase, does having a lot of core muscle help make your voice more powerful and supported?

No, having big or defined muscles won't help if you don't know how to use them. What is important is to know what muscles you're using and how to use them properly. Also, many people with "abs" ( I put it in quotations because everyone has abdominal muscles) they have low body fat, which makes their muscles be able to be seen through the skin, nothing to do with how big their abs are. It's like when someone has big biceps because they weight lift, but if you put them against a boxer that doesn't have as big of muscles, they'll probably not win that fight because they lack the technique to give a good punch and they might even injure themselves. So tl;dr: Technique is more important than having big muscles.

I agree. My brother is fat but he practice martial art since he is a kid. In his age of 50's year old, he hit door from particle board and the door did not broken, but it have a hole. Although he is fat, he is flexible and can do 3 moves in one second.

Hii. I'd like to recommend you one most versatile kpop singer. His name is Kang Seung Yoon (KSY). Other than being able to belt all these high notes his voice has a very unique tone and color. It has a Rockstar rawness too. It's surprising that he was not included by the person who made this strain vs support compilation. This compilation vdo had many kpop idols performing at King Of Masked Singer (KOMS) for e.g. Jungkook, and KSY has recently set a record on that show for a kpop idol to win the crown 6 times in a row. He is also a guitar genius and main producer of his group Winner. Please see if you can check out his group Winner. They have hit songs like Really Really, Soso, Millions, Island, Love me love me, Ah yeah and many more. There's something very different about them compared to other kpop groups. They're like 'not even trying hard but still slaying'. And they're under the same label as Blackpink.
