The original drums at the start was his manager Gleen Wheatleys porche door slaming. The writers didn't want John recording it. He did it anyway. They are glad he ignored them.

The Orchestra always loved playing for John. By the end of a concert he has usually introduced them all and his band and backup singers that we all know well. I have always loved how everyone there is as important as he is to him. I don’t think he ever knew he was important. Thank you.

Thanks for the great reaction,The song is very well written and brilliantly delivered by John.John has a voice that no matter what he sings, Ballads,, Rock, Opera, he delivers every time every song John gives a 100 percent. The mood you’re in when you listen to John changes he fills with feelings of joy and happiness. The feelings for me have gone on for fifty years, He will always be G.O.A.T. To me I’m just another one who will tell how we love and respect John, some reactors say he sounds like this one or that one but to Aussies he is The Voice, and there will never be another who sounds like JF❤

Farnsy is an amazing artist and sadly underappreciated. I know I didn't give him enough credit when I was a teenager growing up, listening to him through my mothers song choices. I find it interesting that I now see reaction channels worldwide giving him his due credit, that I took for granted, but can now appreciate.

I 100% agree. I'm almost 40 now and when I was a teen in the 19s and early 2000s I would always skip his songs as it was my mum's music but actually he is an amazing artist that I appreciate in full now.

Hey Nina. Certain songs you could say are almost supernatural in their composition. This is such a song - an peace anthem of unity. A call to arms to reject fear and violence. Extraordinary. Check out John's 'When The War is Over' from the same concert. Another emotional anthem of a soldier returning home.

He actually threw the mic stand high in the air ... caught it before it hit the ground ... then threw it away. All while singing. Check it out. There is a change in camera angle between the throw and catch. Also he retrieves the mic stand later in the song with a very cool flick of his foot. Love your emotion to this song. The greatest and most versatile male vocalist of all time. And the stage presence and an awesome performer all round. Often throwing his mic stand meters in the air and catch it while still performing, John loves his mic and mic stand tricks, whenever he starts playing and winding up the mic stand you know he’s going to do something with it.

@Raelene Williams I know what Reaction video's are & the concept of them ! But she could stop less times & comment & break it all down at the end of the video like most good reactors do ! She made it about herself by singing / crying / talkin over the top of John's performance ! & way to many stops ! She would appreciate the video & performance i think if she watched & listened in full once & then watch again & break it down & explain her views on it ! She cried twice & spoke during the whole video & frigg me she also sang a couple of times & talked over him 🙈👎 That's not how the good reactors do it ..

40-odd year old Aussie here, whose been to several Farnsy concerts. The man is a machine on stage, he comes from that era that made their living doing live gig's - just the sheer amount of emotion he puts into the performance, is palpable in the audience. And this song in particular, aside from being the highest selling Australian artists song for decades, just makes you feel something, whether you heard it when it was released, or for the first time now, the lyrics still ring true to this day. It's magical.

My dearest mate & very well known Aussie Union Official was Mike Fisher. Mike was old school, really brave, as hard as nails, fierce when necessary, funny as buggery & he literally saved my life twice & I'll love him forever !!! We're pretty sure he & John had met before but at a big show in Melbourne Mike asked John if he could say a quick hello to his daughter who suffered terribly with Spina Bifida. John went way beyond Hi & spent a good & precious half hour with Mikeys daughter signing autographs, giving her souvenirs, a big cuddle & more. She died early in life from her illness but talked about that night ever since. So still do we.

Playing to win from the same concert is up there with YTV, Help and IALWTTT from the same concert they are peak Farnham and as much as YTV is a unifying anthem and Help is a plea so Playing to Win is dynamic and energetic and motivational. Do yourself a favour and check it out. Also, and I've seen it mentioned here previously, Angels with Lisa Edwards (backing vocalist with crimped hair and studded bodice and herself in possession of a stunning voice) is a treat. The friendship and admiration they have for each other is palpable have your tissues handy. And lastly Black Dog the Led Zeppelin cover which is the song Farnham and the band use for a sound check will BLOW YOUR MIND (sadly no video only audio on this as it was not a song he performed in concert (maybe a couple of times but no video of those) he out Zeppelin's Plant.

That song was a phenomenon when it came out in the 80s. It made him the biggest name in Australia but for whatever reason he didn't become known outside Australia, but we knew he was special, that this album was special, that this song was a masterpiece. It's so strange reliving that now, seeing people new to his music, reliving the phenomenon. Looking back, some incredible music in Australia in the 80s was missed by the rest of the world. We all knew the British and American stuff, but I wonder what hidden gems we've all missed from other countries.

It doesn't matter how many different people react to this performance, and only seeing him throw the microphone stand across the stage; barring one reaction out of over 20 reactions, you all missed the fact that he baton tossed it in the air before throwing it. John's wife Jill keeps telling him off for how he likes to twirl or toss the mic stand around; it is now, one of his signature antics. So you need to watch his performances more closely, because you never know when he's about to do it or someother antic on stage; he can be very self-effacing, and really funny(he even says he's a bit of a 'goofball').

A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one. -Burn For You.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoGzp4Kehdije6M -Angels.. Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers. JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5CVf32Ifsl1hZo -To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa. Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lamZf2xqhKqekLM -Please Don't Ask Me.. This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKa5kKeQhKmZgZo -When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.... And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4bCk3aZnamKfJY Or this version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHLPd3uJhbF7ptE -When The War Is Over… Possibly one of his greatest vocals. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ope6o4uZasqBbsk -Or is the greatest. Gethsemane.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWbaoICQqaifnqs -How about a mike test. He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol Black Dog. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGO8mmmKi85gqbc Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.

Did you catch him throwing the mic stand into the air above and then catching it just before he threw it to stage left? I have seen it several times as we don't get blocked from John down under.

There's quite a bit to our John's back story & it was no mistake that scenes from Australia's cowardly, perverted & miserably failed invasion of Viet Nam were in the original Voice video track. John (a former Plumber) like all Aussie Building Union members (like me back then & will be always) was only young but we knew & have never forgotten or forgiven the Conservative Party in Australia for illegally invading Viet Nam. The Building Unions in Australia are magnificent & were the back bone of the Anti Viet Nam Invasion.
