The reggae version seemed like a song of empowerment, a resolve to move forward. This version conveys the sense of pain that she felt in rejection. When we move on in life, the pain never really goes away completely. In every joy, we can also feel sorrow; but bittersweet chocolate might be the best. ❤

I really like the way you de-construct these songs. I think you will really enjoy doing so for "What a Wonderful World" and "I Will Always Love You" as these seem to be somewhat of an evolution in Angelina. You are a pleasure to listen to and I must add "easy on the eyes" as well.😃

I too, Nina, wish that I had been there. The venue must have been even more intimate than The Alex Theatre. And she seemed to treat the audience to more personal rawness. You continually display such an impressive understanding of music even beyond vocals. If there is proper material available, I would think that you could also do an excellent job of reacting to and analyzing music sans vocals. 💕

Thanks Nina, I am in awe of this version, not as fussed with the original "Regge" version. As Steve said there are a couple of bits where she appears to be feeling her way (as we have seen her do in rehearsals of other songs) but this style of vocal just fits her like a glove and allows her to get soft and emotional and then she can slap you with a taste of power whenever she likes. With some production like the jazzy version of Bad Valentine this one could go a long way.

What a conundrum with this amazing song. The feel and character of these two versions are SO different. Selecting a “favorite” is nearly impossible. The emotion and pain with the second version are almost unfathomable yet the original contains such a strong sense of empowerment. It really is such a brilliant song to be able to embrace such opposite emotions. 💔❤️‍🩹

Great analysis as always, Nina. I almost always prefer her stripped down versions of her songs & this is no exception. This version just oozes emotion, but probably the more up-beat, reggae version would be more successful commercially. As you say, it will be very interesting to hear what she actually releases. Her performances of I Will Always Love You & It's a Man's World, are my favorites from this concert. I hope you will react to them soon from James Thiel's channel. Love from NY.

I think you're right that, like Bad Valentine - which has 2 versions; personally I preferred the slower tempo one (which we got to hear live for the first time at THIS concert) - this song will also have at least 2 versions. As of now, I enjoy them equally. And ... this version of Thank You felt like a work in process, with some non-lyrical humming and riffs there because, well, I'm not sure. The lyrics didn't quite work? She had a couple memory lapses? Intentional almost scat-like interludes? What do you think?

I prefer this stripped-down version, for a few reasons: 1) it's easier to understand the lyrics, as her vocals are higher in the mix, 2) she was more free to explore tempos and riffs with just a single accompanist, which I feel allows more emotion to come through, and 3) I got to see this performance live, and didn't get to see her at the Alex in September (so this video is more personal for me). BTW: I LOVE your analyses & comments - few reactors are even half as knowledgeable about singing and songwriting, which I appreciate.

I have a suggestion for you Nina. You really need to react to one of Beth Hart's songs. You are missing her a lot on your channel. She in my opinion is one of the best singers of all time and you haven't react to her at all. I suggest "Am I the one" live at Paradiso, Amsterdam to begin with. That song shows what a beast she is and you can get to know her personality, voice and stage presence. After that you can go for "Caught on the rain" Royal Albert hall live and "I'd rather go blind" with Joe Bonamassa, live at Amsterdam. Believe me you will not regret reacting to these songs. I promise, you'll enjoy every second of these songs

You know, I’ve been following Angelina since she was 8, and all the way through her audition where she sang at age 14 for Simon. I loved her voice…then. To me, and I understand this is just my opinion, she has become too Indy. It’s almost as if she is trying to sound that way. She didn’t sound used to sound that way. I think she is supremely talented, but I like her old sound better.
