Amy Winehouse was great, but could she have covered this song in this manner? Of course there are similarities. I assume Amy was influenced by some of the same great Jazz singers as Angelina. Angelina obviously loves Amy, but I think Angelina is carving out her own space and is now an influencer. Her ability to sing powerfully yet soft; slow her vibrato to a crawl; use her breath as color; switch from chest to head seamlessly; go so low you have to look up to see the bottom (listen to How Great Thou Art) to high notes in Mt Everest, and on and on with technical ability, is possibly only surpassed by her own ability to emotionally tell a story. She absorbs everything she hears and she lives music, so I suspect she hears alot. This comment is not anti Amy. She brought Jazz back for awhile which was no small feat. It's just that so many reactors put her in the Amy Winehouse space, when Angelina is so much more. She really only belongs in one space and thats the Angelina Jordan space.

Hi Tania .. this was her second take on this song .. only short after they had to stop the first take - almost finished - because of technical issues on the recording .. This was a live Show in June this Year and was broadcast on TV .. .. later in July she had 3 Concerts in Sandefjord and Kongsberg - all sold out - and she did this song as her last of 18 songs after 1,5 hour of mesmerizing performance the other songs without a pause between .. with the same power she did the first songs .. I was at the concert July 10 in Sandefjord and it was breathtaking the whole time ..

A little correction: She did indeed finish the song the first time, and took the applause. During the applause a technician went up to her and exchanged some words. Then the tech. adressed the audience saying (in Norwegian) "Angelina liked so much to sing for you that she would like to do it one more time, is that ok with you?". So Angelina sang it again.. This song was the last item on the concert (broadcast the day after) so there was time to do it. If the reason for a retake was a technical one, a misplaced cymbal clash, or Angelina herself, not satisfied with the first take, I don't know (I'm not a 100% sure that the 2. take is the one used either.)..

Did we meet and I just didn't know this was your YT name ? 😊😊 Anyway - Just adding to the 2nd take of this video at Allsang Pa Grensen. It is my strong belief watching closely Angie's reaction and movements and gestures after the 1st take that is was her wish and instruction to the director to do it again. Either way - it doesn't really matter, what is incredible is singing this difficult song back to back twice with only 45 seconds gap in between and to my ( untrained ) ears, perfect both times. I am also proud to say I got a wave from her ( caught on my video of course ) just after the discussion with the TV producer as I was one of the few people in the crowd standing up at that point. 💕💕👍👍

@@kristena9285 This is definitely the second take. There is a fan video that is run straight thru both takes and showing the TV people coming up quickly at the end of the first and talking to her. Then the announcement that they had asked her to repeat the song because of (unspecified) problems. Her mother and someone else came out on the stage, and she went off the stage coming back very shortly. She was positioned slightly differently on the stage and sang the song a second time. If it was the wind bothering her it was somewhat distracting to me and I am sure to her. It was somewhat better in the second performance but still gave her some problems. I feel sure that she will not perform outdoors with a strand of hair hanging down on each side again if there is any wind at all! Oh, and there was 1 minute 37 seconds between the 2 performances

Here is a studio version of the song that she released right after the concert. Absolutely great comments, Tania ♥♥♥ You're the first reactor that I have heard so far that has commented on the drums being somewhat too protruding here. I do think that I have the reason. You see, Angelina did two performances on this show, thisone being the very last of the show. In the first, where she performed "Bohemian Rhapsody" she was standing much further awy from the stage, on a small podium of sorts among the audience. This is what she has been doing previous years as well, this was her 4th year performing here. Now, what you see here is Angelina's SECOND performance of the song, back to back. I believe she was initially standing on said small podium, but the wind simply was too strong, to the degree that it affected her singing. SO, the producers pulled her back toward the stage, and gave her roughly ONE minute before she had to do it all again. Still she carried THIS amount of power and breath control. Incredible stamina for a 16 year old girl. Her diaphragm strength must be off the charts. And I don't really know, but I have been wondering if the fact that she was repositioned closer to the stage may have altered the mix somehow? I'm by no means a sound engineer, so just a layman's thoughts really..LOL I just adore what you said about the storytelling in her performance, This is one of her absolute hallmarks as an artist in my opinion. I have absolutely no clue as to why I haven't encountered your channel before, but I have now, and I have subscribed. I would die to hear you react some more to her, she's been on a tear lately. And her first album after she signed with Republic Records in 2020 is fast approaching I think. She has said in interviews earlier this year that she is putting her final touches on it. We hope for early next year 🙂 So you need to get up to speed with her, before she takes off. Because she will 🙂 Much love and respect from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

I agree that that outdoor venue was certainly an issue. She is not even singing from a band shell. There's only canvass and netting behind her. A difficult situation for the band to maintain ensemble, which may explain the drum standing out. All this complicates the sound engineer's job. Someone in the audience probably wouldn't notice. This venue was in Norway, and the audience was probably just glad that it was warm outside. Attending a concert on top of that was just frosting on the cake. ... I see you have yet to react to Angelina's performance of Screaming Jay Hawkins 1956 hit, 'I Put A Spell On You." The studio version filmed in black & white that she recorded at age 9 years and 2 months is the version to watch. You only watched performances where she used her "soft" voice, the thing with her is that she has many more voices depending on the song and so by listening to only a few you missed out on a lot of her abilities even early on. Good morning for California, you mention she was over dressed for performance and yes she was but it’s for a reason it’s a tribute to Whitney Houston, in another video she recently done was “Suspicious Minds” Elvis cover she is using his black Leather suit with his red guitar , along with Priscilla”s hair duo who is Elvis”s wife. Because she is doing throwback Artist she’s feeling them by keeping their memory in the performance.. you know she has covered many artist and if you decide to watch more you’ll notice she does it a lot . Nice reaction and DISSECTION... You have the tendency to pick.. say the drums, the dress, the wind blowing her hair... And you discussed the voice, techniques why one can or have difficulties applying them.. I'm not sure how wind, dress, drums impact her singing?? I don't know or didn't see where it altered her rendition, vocal ornaments, tones, breathing, phrasing were impacted? If you want to hear it in a more intimate version, she dropped an exquisite performance, black & white studio version of this song... But she touches her hair and wears a gown 🤔 If you can get past that, I think you'd enjoy it. In regards to her attire, let's just say that she is classy.. she's not a "cookie cutter" follower, she obviously wanted to elevate her appearance.. I think it's better than the others who chose to sexualize themselves.. she's better than that. BTW, can you share what well known or up and coming artists you've coached? Perhaps your own releases or well publicized, concerts, special appearances? Just curious... Check out the studio version, there's no drummer to irritate you as it's a track she uses and she holds a loonnng ribbon note at the end that it beautiful...PEACE

Also sure I actually felt the hair triggerd me,and disfunction of “waldrobe” can be a lack of quality in performance. People can start breath differently,move differently etc once you start to breath wrong this affects ALL singing! The same goes for stage ornaments like fire or etc. This can dry out the vocal folds…but alllllll this talk would just be too much

For some of her fans to say that the dress is inappropriate is ridiculous. Some of her more "adoring" fans would like to keep her a little girl forever. That's not the way it works. She is a teenager yes, but also a budding young woman. Probably close to full grown physically. Certainly the dress (absolutely beautiful) accents her adult female curves, but she in no way attempts to be flurtatious or overly sexy. She remains very respectful of her audience and her situation. I couldn't help noticing the drums during the performance, so when you said the drum made it hectic I realised they were too prominent. So be honest, Angelina is at her best with very sparse accompaniment or maybe a small tight jazz outfit such as on her Proysenfestivalen concerts or her versions of I Put A Spell On You and Feeling Good.

With this 1st live performance , by AJA, of this song, She was singing to a backing track as she did in congsburg like 6 days later... But 3 days after that 2nd show she sang it with her band playing, So the intimacy you wanted is there and she also was able to do more ad libbing because there was no backing track to force fit her. I believe in her black-and-white official video released after the Norway shows, Which was probably filmed between January and may, And studio recorded for audio at the same time frame, Uses the same instrumental backing track.

But she doesn't do it just once she does a twice in a row with about a minute and a 1/2 maximum breaking between, Because the producers wanted a retake on the video camera work.... Allegedly... So she had to belt it out twice in a very short time.
