Yeah! She’s something special, isn’t she? Pure Velvet Perfection! This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. Did you notice that right foot raise it''s heal to cradle the guitar a couple of times in the performance. I was waiting for her to throw in a little shake to it in homage to the King. Could that have been intentional? That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. I think that makes them cousins not nieces. Full Black Leather Bodysuit, the guitar from his concert in 68 and the hair a homage to Priscilla Presley. Yeah! She can bring tears to your eyes. Epic. Incredible. There are no words. Epic! Wow, Wow, Wow! Could it be more Beautiful? ♥👣👸🏻🎷 Yeah she doing a Concert in Norway this month! Album to drop soon! So much to look forward to.♥👣👸🏻🎷

Welcome to Angelina in her native Norway. She did this festival almost every year from right after winning Norway's Got Talent at 8 yrs old till about 11. Great reaction. I am waiting for more reactors to jump on these new performances. I have heard after Allsang Pa Grensen held at Fredriksten which is a fortress in the city of Halden in Norway and where she did only two performances, she did about 17 songs in her performance at Kurbadhagen of which I have seen only about a half dozen including a new performance of 'Love On the Brain' and a couple of new Amy Winehouse songs. Can't wait for more to come out. ♥👣👸🏻 Check out this one.Angelina Jordan (16) «Tears dry on their own» live at Kurbadhagen 1th of July 2022 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZuqnKmabc2nf5I Angelina really brings Amy back in this one. ♥👣👸🏻 or this one. 'Valerie' kzbin.info/www/bejne/nICknqqIr9-epqM Or how about a little 'Love On the Brain'. Just amazing. Far cry from the performance in her music corner at home. kzbin.info/www/bejne/baCkhKuNqdOnirc all at Kurbadhagen. Greeting from The Land of Vikings, home of The Kensington Runestone, and the largest population of Norwegian Heritage in America, Mid-Minnesota. ♥👣👸🏻

That dude playing the piano is Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California, and he has been working with AJ since she signed with the largest record company in the world at the age of 14, two years ago. Rob was the MC of AJ Christmas Show that aired Dec 23, of 21. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Barbara Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? Jimmy stated that AJ was the best he has ever played for. Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California played the guitar, and was the MC of the show. (I can't list the complete backgrounds on all the band members because it would take several pages to do them justice.) Angelina stated that she would rather perform than take a breath, and she has never been forced to perform, it has been her decision.

Elvis comeback special was in 1968. As for her hair… that took me back to that era when what we called low-rider chicks wore that hairdo. Their hair was teased with maybe a hair piece underneath. Hers looks like a hair piece. Hair in the 60s was all about height. As for her singing, I really like the restraint she used here, which made the song even more heartbreaking. She also used a breathy tone, which normally singers stay away from, to great effect.

It is the same antique store in Hollywood that she used for My Funny Valentine AJ plays guitar, keyboard/piano, violin and flute. Don’t forget she writes music and was the youngest author in Norway to publish a book. No loud band, no light show, no dancers, just two instruments to accompany the MAGIC that Angelina Jordan brings like no one else can. At 7 she was killing us, at 16 she is taking us places we have never been. What a glorious production, praise to everyone involved, so perfect for Angelina Jordan she rules the universe with her talent. Again, the great talent of Rob Christie playing the piano. The Cinemaphotography, a total MASTERPIECE, Excellent ART Cole McCarthy! Great touch, the cousins and sister get a cameo. Mery, you should be so proud, AJ's grandma produced this. (This red guitar is identical to the one Elvis played in his 1968 concert on TV.) Oh, the tears, and loss of breath, she is like no other in the universe. Here is a classic example of what this ethereal talent, Angelina Jordan, can achieve she takes a mundane song and turns it in to phenomenal classic. Angelina at 16 is the MASTER of her universe, she is top priority for both Stargate, and AJ's voice has been unique since she was 7 years old and now at 16, she controls us as an audience, leaving us hang on every word and phrase.

I discovered her not that long ago myself but I have watched hundreds of videos multiple times because her voice is just it's a miracle it makes me feel good but I remember watching a video of her performance of Nancy Sinatra's bang bang in the semifinals of Norway's Got Talent and the judge was crying as he did each time she sang and he said to her you are amazing now and you are 8 years old in 10 years from now when you're 18 I can't even imagine what that will be like well this is what will be like cuz we're pretty close at 16 her voice has gotten a touch deeper and I think that at this point she knows her craft and her instrument inside outside backwards forwards so listen up everybody all the professionals say that the most important time in a child's life the time that determines how their adult life will go are the early years from birth to age and in particular 16 to 42 months. You have to have constant interaction with your child during that time cuz they soak up everything like a sponge everything talk to them read to them sing to them joke around with them make them laugh even peekaboo which everybody does and nobody has a reason for it you just do it you play peekaboo with a baby but what you don't realize is they are absorbing that and is teaching them what types of emotional reactions are appropriate in certain situations you think I'm kidding look it up but back to my point what was Angelina doing between 16 to 42 months? She was spent those days with her grandmother who was a huge jazz fan and a child prodigy herself in the field of Art she had an extensive collection of jazz albums and every day Angelina and her grandmother would pick a few albums play those albums and sing along talking about the things they liked the things they didn't just like that that's why we're not sitting here watching a kid who has an amazing voice and is copying the style of Billie holiday yeah she's copying all right she's copying the strongest parts and things she likes best from a singer after listening to their entire collection that's why on ngt everybody's blown away because you can literally hear a little bit of Billy a little bit of Nina some Nancy A Touch of Louis Armstrong she hadn't given us her little bit of screaming Jay Hawkins yet that would be 2 years later LOL so the moral of the story is start workingsaving up on your Jazz collection now

You can’t really see the color, but the boots are supposed to be Blue Suede! Also, the hairdo is supposed to reflect Elvis’s wife Priscilla’s 60’s beehive. No, she doesn’t wear it that way all the time! The setting is an antique shop in LA, also the setting for her previous drop, My Funny Valentine. Her grandmother produced this one, working her grandchildren into the video to represent Angelina growing up.

The song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along). I paste below the order in which Angelina sung the verses. "Suspicious minds" Angelina Jordan - lyrics rearranged. Oh let our love survive I'll dry the tears from your eyes Let's don't let a good thing die When honey, you know I've never lied to you We're caught in a trap I can't walk out Because I love you too much baby Why can't you see What you're doing to me When you don't believe a word I say? We can't go on together With suspicious minds And we can't build our dreams On suspicious minds So, if an old friend I know Stops by to say hello Would I still see suspicion in your eyes? Here we go again Asking where I've been You can't see these tears are real I'm crying (Yes, I'm crying) We can't go on together With suspicious minds And we can't build our dreams On suspicious minds Oh let our love survive I'll dry the tears from your eyes Let's don't let a good thing die When honey, you know I've never lied to you

Classic Angelina. Taking an iconic song most singers would avoid and giving us a completely new way to understand it-while clearly paying tribute to the original version and to Elvis. Her voice has always been compelling, but now the depth and smokiness she can summon up fits so perfectly with those low registers where her musical soul seems to live. And her work now with Republic Records oozes class and nostalgia. Stunning performance visually, musically, vocally. And she can turn around on a dime to inhabit so many other genres as authentically as we saw here. If you’re inclined toward jazz, her recent cover of My Funny Valentine shows incredible vocal control paired with a voice and musicality that matches the greatest jazz singers of past eras. Or her jazzy cover of Billie Jean is Angelina ignoring any musical boundaries and giving a truly amazing cover that no other singer would ever attempt.

You almost lost me trying to describe the beginning of the song. You may have as well have been trying to explain quantum mechanics to me. After a few months of knowing about and listening to Angelina, I realized my brain was working so hard trying to comprehend what I was hearing from a child (now I have to come to grips with the truth she is still only 16) it enabled me to just truly enjoy and appreciate what I’m hearing. She’s embraced her gift and sharing it with all of us.

Good to see you check this one out, Ken! Angelina took this Elvis song and changed it from the original upbeat tempo to a (IMO) more fitting style for the song. Angelina does this again and again with many classic songs. She is somehow able to hear something in songs that allow her to express the meaning to us in ways that allow us to understand them in new ways. I've seen her do it with so many songs, but it still amazes me every time. Angelina is so much more than a singer, she is a true artist.

@@daniellysohirka5079 I watched Elvis’ Las Vegas performance after seeing Angelina’s Suspicious Minds rendition. He certainly has an amazing voice and teaches a lesson about making a live performance fun for the performer. I was a bit discouraged by the disrespect for Mark James’ song when Elvis threw in the rhyme, “shove it up your nose” at about 0:55. In Hawaii he adds “not much” to “I’ll never lie to you” at about 1:55. Sure it is playful, just noticeably detracted from the overall performance for me.

Should you want to hear Angelina unleash the "Kraken", and as mentioned in a comment below, then I suggest you view this video from her last concert in Norway. This recording was shot in 4K UHD by a fan so is excellent quality. Fascinating analysis. First, you’re the only one I’ve heard mention that the piece of furniture unveiled is the King’s Throne. And Elvis was the king. Your description of how she sings is most insightful, and you actually describe how she creates her sounds in a way I’d never heard before. I also appreciate your interruptions because you then provide your mediate insight and analysis.

Since you didn’t recognize this set, I’m guessing you haven’t seen her 16 year old version of “My Funny Valentine” in the same shop. If I’m right, please watch and listen to probably the best version ever recorded. It was released 2/14/22

So it’s probably been said already but in case not.. Angelina sported the jump suit as an homage to Elvis’ leather jump suit on his comeback concert. The beehive hair is a homage to Pricilla’s beehive. The suit the piano player is wearing is the exact suit worn by the piano player at Elivis’ same concert. Also he is the President of Republic Records who has signed Angelina. The two young girls are her cousins and the older girl is her younger sister who. Is around 10 years old.

Btw, “These boots were made for walking” was sung by Nancy Sinatra and now by Angelina, live, few days ago, is her concerts in Norway this summer. Contrarily to “Suspicious Minds” she didn’t made the many usual changes there, apparently because the song doesn’t have the flexibility for that. Worth listen though.

The Comeback Special was in 1968, not 1963; but yes, that was the black leather performance which also had the red Hagstrom guitar in it at some point. Good reaction and analysis! There is a lot of symbolism going on here in this video masterpiece! The hairdo (it's called "beehive") is reminiscent of Priscilla Presley's hair during the time of her wedding and marriage to Elvis (and multitudes of other women from that time who adopted it, as I recall as a boy).

Mr. Lavigne, I've watched a few reactions to Ms. Jordan's cover of Suspicious Minds and I'm flummoxed by some of the comments. None of the reactors have picked up on the fact that Angelina's physical features have finally caught up with her voice. Beautiful. It's always been mature. Alway's been phenomenal. Hearing those first notes gave me the same goose bumps as when I first saw her on AGT. Only gets better. I've read this is her last NON-professional vid/cover. I'd pay to watch in person.

And if you have seen this cover by Angelina (and the other covers she did) you will enjoy the movie even more. Watching the opening you will understand her choices made here! This arrangement was brilliantly written, and brilliantly performed. Elvis Presley was the most iconic figure in popular culture in the 20th century, and I feel that Angelina is the perfect artist to rekindle the magic that was Elvis. She breathes life into music like no one else, and where most artists try to speak through their art, Angelina lets the art speak through her.

Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day. Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own. When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song. The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers. The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister. 🙂

YES! Juliet is a beautiful young girl and is probably just as sweet as Angie. With all the love from her big sis, you know she's grown up to a beautiful person on the inside as well. I wonder what her talents are? May be not singing. I'd never force that expectation on a sibling. May be art like her grandmother? Or may be something else. Such an awesome family that keeps Angie grounded knowing she's safe who she is.

That was great - watched her in Norway in concert 10th July. She sang 18 songs, plus did a half hour sound check in the afternoon before the concert. When she sang this song she was so emotional and happy with being on stage that she had tears running down her face. As for the hair - she had it down in the sound check, but up in the concert (not quite as much as this though). After the concert got to chat to her hair stylist - and yes it takes a while to do. Probably why she was half hour late coming on stage! Worth checking out some of her concert. Mattias Axelsson has all the 18 songs on his youtube channel and he managed to record in very high quality on his iPhone - I was just in shock the whole time!

As usual she showed her musical ability by carefully choosing the volume that she sings the notes. Many young singers have the bad habit of trying to belt as much of a song as possible. This can be impressive, but only up to a point. It can also cause damage to their vocal cords, look at Adele. Many reactors, both music pros and aficionados, often talk about her amazing level of control. In this song she again demonstrated her ability to quickly or slowly or loudly or softly move from note to note. The other half of her skillset is the musical genius which she use to decide what and where to "flex" her abilities. As if you handed me a Stradivarius violin to play and it would sound terrible, but in the hands of a master it would bring tears. She used a voice that we have rarely heard in the opening. A strong, bright head/nasal voice. You could think of her as having an orchestra in her voice that she picks and choses the instruments like a conductor. She usually draws from the woodwinds, sax, clarinet, etc, which suits most jazz. In this case she brought in the brass. Her first note was like a trumpet, strong, sharp, bright and steady on the note, no vibrato. She brought in in again several times. I have followed her since NGT and I didn't think she could surprise me this much anymore.

This such a beautiful production! The visuals are gorgeous including, as you read from the message, Elvis’ imagery: the black leather suit and red guitar from his 1968 comeback tour, the red suit Rob Christie is wearing as well, the mic and the rhinestone boots all fit in the era. Also her coming in and uncovering beautiful pieces of the past including a bit of dust being blown up. Her cousins and her sister, all dressed in white dresses, give a wonderful view of Angelina growing up. The bare foot part is still there including during 4 recent concerts where she by the way sang ‘These boots are made for walking’ :-) She is still raising awareness for poor kids who do not have shoes by performing like this. The arrangement is so beautiful: slower, more melancholic, very clear piano sound, her voice super clear just delicious :-) I love how she uses the bridge both to start and end the song and the way she comes in with power, it just blows me away. She makes me really feel the sad story she is telling of how love is being destroyed by distrust. She recently did a new version of ‘I have nothing’, kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6LXeomPe8-UprM, in which she releases the Kraken more and also in a recent live version of her own original ‘Million Miles’: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ2rYYN5abV4hrM Here is a full playlist of the most recent concert: kzbin.info/aero/PLB3ywC3nQj__BfXeSj4-b2VxQSBnQsV8r
