What makes me addicted to Billie Eilish is that she is able to give each song its unique mood, like having for each song a different singer. For Example compare "No Time To Die" to "Come Out And Play".

Billie's voice is perfect for this. She uses her voice so well, especially in setting specific moods/atmospheres. I'd love for you to react to Still Love You by Lee Hongki and Yoo Hweseung. They're Korean artists from two seperate bands, but they have some awesome vocals. Julia, your two part reaction at 6:32; an artist who can do that to an experienced coach; a person who can do that to another person; those are the moments I live for. As an empath I feel what you felt every time I watch it. I mean, you're already enjoying yourself; you're into the song fully, and then she takes you to another world, your jaw dropping anticipation before the peak, then pure joy after. Quite the authentic moment.

As a vocal coach, I'd be interested to see you react to Angelina Jordan. You can start when she's a child (7 or 8) or anytime since (she's 14 now), it doesn't really matter., but her version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins (!) 'I Put a Spell on You' is one you'll surely never forget. She was 9 at the time. If you think Billie is good (and she certainly is), Angelina and her relationship with her voice and music almost defy belief - much like Billie. For your own pleasure, check her out. Despite her age, it would be a grievous error to think of her as a 'child singer.'

Now you have been fully vindicated in your judgement - Billie won the OSCAR and her song there was beautiful - and she's singing with such strength now [well, in her own way she always has!] - I'm a 68 yr. old Billie Believer and went to my first concert in over 40 years, at St. Paul, Minnesota Xcel Energy Center on March 15, 2022 - it was a highlight of my life; Billie was awesome! She gives her fans everything. Tomorrow, March 29, marks 3 years since her debut LP "WWAFAWDWG" (March 29, 2019) on her Mother's Birthday. You have followed Billie some - it's remarkable from 13 - 15, on "Don't Smile At Me"; 16-17 on WWAFAWDWG, 18 - 19, on "Happier Than Ever" - and Billie's versatility is phenomenal - from "idontwannabeyouanymore" to "Bad Guy" or "Bury A Friend" - she combines the balladeer and the (previously unseen) rock star in "Happier Than Ever" (the track). Billie directed the music video. Olivia Rodrigo had a super year and has a super career; Taylor is awesome; Lil Nas X is courageous and superb - how would a person pick Grammys for Sunday, April 3, 2022 - I'm thinking Billie will win 1 for sure, maybe 2, and Olivia could win 3 or 4.

If you don't know who Aurora is then I can see how people can be in love with Billie. She said it herself, she heard Aurora at 11-12 and decided: that's what I want to sound like (and no one can blame her!). I feel that she basically brought Aurora's sound to North American ears and became popular for it. She has done well in attempting to make Aurora's sound her own. @@jvoxfox Well, Hans kind of goes without saying. But I think the relationship between Billie and Finneas is complex. I watched their lockdown video with Finneas on a Wurlitzer electric piano, and his mood seemed to shift from moment to moment. Sometimes he was definitely giving her the evil eye. I don't know if that is just his perfectionist nature demanding all from his sister, or whether maybe he has some bipolar issues.

@@donepearce interesting observation. I think things can become complex the moment mental illness develops into a very real thing. Part of why their music comes across as so real is because it is and I don't think the darker tones in their music could only come from Billie.

Not applicable to this but Finneas, her brother and producer, gave an interview where he said he is always sampling for things to use in production and post. In Bury a Friend there is a dental tool sampled when she was at the dentist. In Bad Guy the high hats is actually the sound they recorded in Australia at a crosswalk... a ticky tacky sound. Something to listen to after Billie and another pass to see what is hidden in the background. I imagine these are also used live off the digital sampler if desired.

Julia i also have a vocal question for you! i asked on the Dimash reaction video but i guess it got totally lost in the chaos of comments! Is it possible to blend the head voice with the whistle register and create something like a super head voice? kinda similar way you blend chest with head? i am asking because i know about Dimash! a great opera singer who also does reaction here on youtube stated that what he did on SOS was not whistle register!And you will see in future reactions of Dimash he usually goes easy all the way up to E6/F6 and sounds clean like a supreme head voice! So i am confused if someone can actually mix head/whistle
@jvoxfox
@jvoxfox 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Nikos! good question and I totally understand the confusion. Each register has a transition area in the voice (passagio) and what I heard was a narrowing of Dimash's sound as if he was approaching a transition to whistle register. He does not sing a pure whistle note in SOS. I just got really excited and wanted to explain what a full whistle register was because to me that sound of approaching a whistle mechanism matched up with comments saying he could sing them (just not in that video. he really doesn't leave second register in SOS even if he did narrow that sound). I really goofed up by cutting my comment prior to that section (it's in the description box of that Dimash video). As far as I know you cannot mix a whistle register and a second register because the whistle register requires that very specific mechanism that I explained in the video. Does that help at all? Anything else you'd like to know let me know!!

@@jvoxfox I have seen coaches saying that this is whistle and i have seen others say that this is head voice! i was referring to that opera singer cause she was in a list of top 40 female sopranos under 40,so she is probably a pro when it comes to high notes! Still you need to listen more of his E6s and F6s to understand why its confusing! in my uneducated opinion it sounds head voice and not whistle register! Cause he has shown his whistle with E7-G7s,several times! I still haven't understood where exactly the passagio is happening ,probably i would say above F6,but we havent heard him yet attempting any G6 in head voice! Thank you for the answer though! I might refer to his high notes again in future videos to see if you change opinion or we find a conclusion!
@jvoxfox
@jvoxfox 4 жыл бұрын
@@satirikos1234 he is definitely in head voice in SOS! Even if he approached a change in register it didn't fully switch. A pure whistle has a different tonal quality to it. Morissette just released a new video as her birthday treat for her fans. It's an a capella, Pentatonix style, version of Rise Up. A level up rendition compared to the one you already watched on Wish Bus. Here's the link, kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5-mn6OOZbRmp7c

Don't even need a kid! I firmly believe her music is for a broader audience than teens.

There is a 14 year old from Kazakhstan who does sing it just as well if not better. Her name is Daneliya Tuleshova and you should absolutely react to her, she's amazing

Good analysis, but I think maybe you should try to resist the temptation to patronise. It's a bit uncomfortable.
