Domingo did not “ask” Dimash the day before, he stated that they would sing the duet together (planed long before) and that there would be a rehearal the next day.

The duet was planend beforehand, probably when Dimash was invited to be a judge on this show, it wasn‘t a spontaneous decission. He and Domingo had little time to rehearse together, though.

@@kellibuzzard9431 Yes, exactly, but I think they are only talking about the rehearsal for the TV recording 1-2 days later, not a spontaneous decision to do a duet. The Virtuoso programme must be planned long ahead. Dimash must have been invited long before and I dont think only two days before the shooting it suddenly occured to them that these two should sing together

This was a dream come true for Dimash. He shared that at the age of 5, he had a VHS of a concert by Maestro Domingo and he dreamed of meeting and working with him from that time. I am sure Dimash appreciated the opportunity to support young classical artists at the invitation of Maestro Domingo. We hope that all his dreams come true and we will be there to support him on his journey.

The reason someone say Dimash was not good there is not that he was bad - it was because some reactors mentioned he didn’t sing straight old school opera. As you said he „modernized“it in some way. The listeners didn’t understand the intentions of the reactors. They never said he was not „good“. They always resumed they were outstanding and beautiful and it was an historic event. But some listeners only heard he was not doing it well, because they said he sang it not strictly in the old school through. It’s only a not understanding and misinterpretation. Love from Austria 🇦🇹

Please, don’t ever apologize for explaining and enriching our musical experience with these iconic gentlemen. You have been kind and uplifting. I have heard some very negative reactions. Yes, Placido is older, and Dimash is classically traine, nut has not stayed in this genre of music. I believe this is an incredible dream for Dimash, and a great pleasure for Placido, since his Grandson introduced him to Dimash’s music. Many people can criticize, but what these men are doing is a beautiful gift to all of us! Well, if Placido was lip synching… well, we still know he has been one of the greatest, right?

Placido was very happy with Dimash, I heard Dimash will be asked to be a permanent judge at this event going forward, huge compliment. The event is Virtuosos. Dimash was offered a position at the Khazakstan Opera so it's in his wheel house, however he wanted to plow his own path so he declined the Opera.

Most listeners have been very happy 🙂 Some of the Opera theorists have compared Dimash with some comments. Dimash however is not trying to be an opera traditionalist. He had voice training - he was then offered a position years ago at the Astana Opera but chose his crossover style. In this situation he had a cold and had one practice session only with Placido on the day/day before. It was not planned until Placido suggested it as they were both panel judges in the competition.

Dimash started classical training when he was 15. Classic singing is not the same as opera. His first degree was contemporary and jazz music, the second degree was in composition. He is still working on his Ph.D

When Placido and Dimash met the clip shows them praising each other, Placido having been shown youtube clips of Dimash by his grandson and Dimash talking about the tape he had of Placido when he was 5 and how he was inspired to go into music. Placido suggested a duet but told Dimash he would have to do the tenor part as Placido's tessitura no longer allowed him to reach the higher notes. He is still amazing though. Interesting. I've listened to and watched this a fair bit "to assess the evidence". Verdict: It's not clear, BUT I couldn't determine whether Placido was in sync (his enunciation isn't as visually apparent as with Dimash for most of the performance) and my feeling is that he was in sync, but the brighter voice to his left was tricking my ears into believing I was listening to Placido. Nevertheless, I'm giving him the benefit of the (very slight) doubt, and not joining you on the fence. I'll see Dimash in Budapest in April, my third live concert from him (I'm a sucker for musical genii - is that the plural of genius?). You'll be there, of course, won't you?? Many bel canto teachers have verified that Dimash brings a cross interpretation between rigid classical singing (which must follow norms and exactly as the author of the piece wrote, from the notes and durations, the portamentos, the expressiveness... Everything) and much more popular flexibility. For purists, let's remember that Dimash had the dream of singing with Plácido Domingos since he was a child and it was the Maestro himself, Don Domingos, who suggested the duet (he knew that even with classical training, Dimash would sing as a cross between classical and pop )! Dimash only had one day to remember the work and make the recording, as this moment is part of the competition (like a talent show) for children with musical talent: The “Virtuosos”! Dimash, as well as Placido Domingos, were part of the Jury, accompanied by Erika Miklósa (opera singer), Adrás Keller (violinist, conductor and musical director of the Budapest Concert), Hauser (cellist), Plácido Domingos Jr. (singer and composer), Pablo Sanz Villegas (classical guitarist), Gabriela Rachid (cultural director) and Harvey Goldsmith (music promoter)! The show was in Budapest (Hungary) from January 16th to 26th this year, 2024!

Before you start, this is a very addictive operatic beautiful emotional performance and wonderful display of two of the world's best voices blending into a symphony of ecstacy about love and loyalty. As you must know Dimash was invited by Placido to be a judge on Virtuosos, a classical competition for young people. The producer of the show said in an interview that the next season Placido and Dimash will be back but also joined by Jose Carreras! Certainly Dimash will be the 3rd tenor! It will be hard to wait!

Raisa, I would think so, unless there is some unforseen circumstance, as Placido, Dimash, Hauser and others are returning as judges with Jose Carreras being added as a judge. The "three tenors" is just my speculation but what an opportunity...

I think the opera experts are getting in their own way a little with this duet. Of course Placido Domingo has an age that has naturally changed his voice. Of course, when he was younger he sang in a completely different class, professionally speaking. And Dimash, yes our beloved Dimash, is trained in opera, but of course he has never sung opera professionally in that sense. So of course he doesn't qualify as a professional opera singer. But that was never the intention of this duet. It was simply the dream of an old master and an outstanding young artist to sing together and since Placido Domingo of course stands for opera and Dimash is not entirely without a background, of course an opera piece was chosen. It was Placido Domingos Idea to do this. This is about the great community and the experience of two great artists, which we should simply enjoy. I think it's wonderful that you assess it correctly and appreciate what special took place there. The problem with synchronicity. The sync problem can always easily happen with videos. They sang live, that's proven. How this effect comes about, I have no idea, that's always the huge problem with video recordings. Until they're with us and we see them, so much can happen.

I always enjoy your comments, even if you mention something not quite accurate about the performance. Knowing singing with Placido Domingo has been a dream of Dimash’s, I’m just so thrilled for him to have that opportunity. Dimash has many dreams and one by one they are coming true. He deserves to achieve all of his goals. Not many of us are that focused or work as hard as he does to make that happen. Please do more Dimash.

Placido Domingo, born Jan. 21, 1941 and Dimash, born May 24, 1994 singing this classic duet on December 10, 2023. So there's 53 years between them, let that sink in for a moment. Placido's voice is still wonderful at age 82 in this clip. Maestro Placido Domingo was of course 1 of the Three Tenors (with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras). for the great maestro placido domingo to still perform in his 80s is a treat. granted, he is singing more as a baritone given his age, but none of the great dramatic tenors of the maestro's generation are no longer around to share their gift. hopefully dimash qudaibergen will be able to last the next six decades like placido domingo.

Placido has always been my favorite of the three tenors-the rich, warm timbre is still just lovely, and with tenors so often there’s more of a sharpness that hurts my nerves a bit. One of the reasons I love Dimash’s voice in his baritone/tenor range is his timbre is so warm and fluid. Thanks for commenting on the effort they both are making to match up-even their vibratos are in sync when they sing together. As for whether Placido’s mouth not matching the sound he was producing, well, I didn’t see it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did this in multiple takes and then used the best sound with the best video. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Great reaction!!

Dimash is so popular around the world and his many performances are rerouted so many times and from so many places that I sometimes see the same performance coming both perfectly synced or with lips not matching sound. Like in Russian concerts, apparently it is the norm to play the copy so that nothing fouls up in the live performance. We all know that Dimash does not need technical help apart from echoes that he likes, so making an issue about lipsync is ......putting unnecessary and slightly spoiling commentary. I am mentioning this because many of us love the technical aspects, but negative comment spoils the atmosphere....and listening to Dimash is our reactions of your reactions that may not be just for a learning experience. Wow...sorry about the comment, but those reading may gain some understanding of where you are coming from.

I'm with you Sam. Dimash's high notes are amazing, but I like Dimash singing in lower register. His "Love is like a Dream" is just so... Dreamy. It has a throwback 1960s vibe. Vocally, of younger generation, Ko WooRim of Forestella's Basso Profundo is just. 😍

At first, I was under the impression that Dimash's voice was a bit louder. But I have seen another duet of this song wherein the younger singer's voice was also louder than the other one. I wonder if this song is meant to be sang that way.

I think Placido Domingo is focusing on the orchestra. Director who is somewhat beyond where Dimash is.

They do have to look at each other some to get their timing right now and then when coming in together on a new phrase id imagine.. Also- Placido probably isnt used to using a mic in a live concert setting that much right? Opera singers never have mics when performing- maybe he is just forgeting about it lol. There is no way he dosnt know the lyrics- he has sang this many times - tho admitedly mostly as the character Dimash is performing. p.s Its clearly live- do you think the actual visual timing always aligns with what you hear when it has to go through a sound system and whatever processing boards they have, and then also you have the camera filming and recording with some kinda delay.. Normally it will all be unoticable with tiny delays- but these things can go wrong and have hitches. Placido is one of the worlds best opera singers - why tf would it not be live? His type of singing also means he'd have zero experience with singing along with a dub. Ocams razor should tell you its just a minor sync issue between the many electronic components somewhere.

Okay here's the volley of abuse you brought upon yourself ! Point 1 - you're wrong. Placido and Dimash singing this duet together is a generational dream bordering on passing the baton to an up and coming generation.. Dimash with Igor, New Wave and Slavic Bazaar and the Kazakh culture have always been about paying skills and success forward to those who will take up the mantle. To have Dimash get the honour of wonderful duetting with fellow Virtuosos judge, in front of the whole panel of master judges is bliss for us all without unnecessary silly comments that don't stand up and there is no 'nonsense' on Virtuosos with it's existence to bring the best of the best together to encourage younger generations into their musical spheres of excellence. Point 2 - do your homework on exactly who was on the panel and the nature of the show and you won't need to sound foolish . I think José Carreras is joining the panel next season. Your report card here - could do better but didn't bother.

Dimash is educated opera singer, but classical community is jelouse of his voice and fact that he can sing every jangre , and call him crossover singer, but iif he wants to sing pure opera he will be the best opera singer, in this duet by Bize from 1863.between bariton and tenor you can see and heard his pitch and rezonance is better than maestro Placido who is amazing in 83.yers age, Dimash don't want to sing only opera because if sing opera he must to sing in one register, and that is boring to him, that's why he sing mix between opera and pop, he want to be best in every ganre and he just want to sing 🙏

@@shrekswife2164 Yes, it often is, but it doesn't mean it always has to be. He can sing in other styles as well, it's a matter of choice. My mother, who has professional education in opera singing and classical music, said that he can't fool her, that his voice is obviously very well classically trained. Of course, the more he practices pure opera the better he will become, but he is already totally amazing in a genre that for others takes many years of rigorous practice to develop and excel in. Male opera singers usually don't even reach their prime before 35-40.

I always enjoy your reactions, however, on this one you really got into your tangents and pausing after almost every single measure was entirely too often. This was absolutely a live performance in the middle of this competition for young performers. It seems you sometimes overthink things. Also at 83 years old and singing the baritone not the tenor part Placido is not exhibiting the wide opened mouth people often expect to see from opera. Until one has achieved what he has and is considered to be one of the greatest operatic tenors of all time, as he is, I find it laughable that anyone would have the gall to even attempt to critique him.
