A personal story on what a wonderful person Ofra was. Back in the 80's and at the height of her career, she came to our small village to perform during the Israeli independence day festival. Needless to say that thousands of people from the nearby area came to see her performance, including my big sister, who was (and still is) a huge fan. Ofra was kept in the local community center before her show whole being surrounded by hundreds of screaming fans. Ofra briefly came out of her room to wave to everyone, but was kept by the bodyguards behind the closed glasses. Somehow she noted my sister crying among the huge crowd, asking for her attention, we know that because once she was ushered back into the room and out of sight, a body guard approached my sister and told her Ofra asked for her name and telephone number. A few days later the phone rang at our home and I answered, the lovely lady on the other side asked for my sister, I asked 'who is asking for her?' and she answered 'Ofra'. I didn't know my sister gave her telephone number and I thought it was someone from my sister's new high school that I didn't heard of yet...I called my sister and handed her the phone...you can imagine the rest with lots of screams, crying, happiness etc. Ofra called herself and in person and took the time to talk with my sister, she also sent her lots of goodies afterwards. She was beautiful on the inside just as much (and even more) then she was on the outside and Ofra and her angelic was are terribly missed!!

First time I saw this programme with Jerusalem of Gold followed by this one. I lived in Israel and while being taught Hebrew I was told the Jews from the Yemen speak correct Hebrew more or less as i5 was in biblical times without accents from other parts of North Africa or 5he Middle East. She is one of my Favourites with JoG my very favourite haunting song. It became an anthem in Israel at the onset of the 6 Day War I; 1967. Sadly Ofra dies, a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice.. I have a number of her discs albums which I treasure Another favourite Israeli singer with a pure voice and was very popular in Europe was Ester Ofarim. Listen to her singing a song in Ladino a Jewish form of Spanish Ester sang 8n many languages

I'm happy to come across your video reaction. You look so mesmerised by her it's great to watch 😍 Personaly my favourite song by Ofra is "Chai" which also represent Israel at 1982 Eurovision.. we came 2nd that year. You might enjoy it as well. Much different than what you have heard from hear so far.

Her song "Im Nin’alu" was very successful in Europe in the late 1980s. Sounds IMO even more magical than this one.

Ofra's astounding physical, perfect beauty is seductive besides her voice. SHE EMBODIES the spirit and essence of her music. What a tragic loss that she died so young, but her music will be remembered forever.

Actually this is the soundtrack for the movie La Reine Margot 1994. The 2 songs were preliminary written by Goran Bregovic in the 80s , not by Ofra Haza . Then the director of the movie asked Bregovic if he would allow these songs to be in the soundtrack. Bregovic was glad to work on the soundtrack, and only THEN, he cooperated with Fantastic Ofra Haza, they made one melody out of two merged songs. What can I say, it was a blast decision, because Ofra was the only one who could carry out this masterpiece. She sang this as an angel only could, and of course gave it a bit of her own improvisation, it came out DIVINE. RIP dear angel. The links to the original two songs of Goran Bregovic which were used in this melody kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX-Td6Z-oLh0prM - The night I die -G. Bregovic. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6CUdIWYabCja7c - If there is God-G. Bregovic. Also the greek MEGA star Haris Alexiou has sang this movie song on her concert, greek language of course. She sings it very emotionally and dramatically. And the atmosphere i s fantastic. Take a listen to her interpretation. link to that kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zl64mp-rd5mWkNE

Unrelated to the video, but I'm curious to know if you have listened to Andrew Bird? If not you should check out his performance on the NPR tiny desk concert. Listening to him sing in perfect pitch with the violin, so that becomes an extension of his voice, is amazing. Capsize is the best example of that.

I think you will also like this by another Israeli singer called Rita: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHqrpJJ_pduVfNE , it is a very touching rendition. Its' title translates roughly to "take me under your wing". A different but similar haunting feel to the singing.

Sometimes people wonder, why I don't appreciate nor enjoy the lion's part of the new, young artists. Because of having listened to such as Ofra Haza in my days. After hearing things of this format, one doesn't get impressed easily anymore. Also, watch "Queen Margot", it's a splendid picture with EVEN MORE of mesmerizing music performed by TRUE instrumental and vocal artist, some of which you'd probably never hear of if you didn't know them from that film.

He has never taken singing lesson yet some classical experts say he is one of the few who can sing Nessun dorma flawlessly kzbin.info/www/bejne/faXGemavrdukZtk He is known for his legendary high screams, power, control, delicate nyances, intensive vibratos and ability to sign from his heart. He is very much loved in Finland but totally unknown to the world.
