Fun fact the drums and cymbals were recorded separately. Dave recorded the bass drum, snare and toms. Then play just the cymbals so cymbals wouldn't bleed into the close mics. Yet you would never know by listening to the song. When I learnt of this it blew me away. It's such a good song on of my favourite QOTSA songs.

Initially, even though he wrote the lyrics for some Kyuss songs, he didn't want to sing. (Donald Fagan of Steely Dan was the same.) It was only after others telling him to sing his own work that he started, and he became an icon for it. Nobody else sings like he does. Listen more closely - You mention the whispers, but listen also for the layered growls, and screams that are down in the mix. He never overplays them - They're just subtle background details that add to the whole.
@jessicaphillips84223 жыл бұрын
That whisper and back up vocals is Dave Grohl. He also sang back up in Nirvana, just as Taylor Hawkins sings back up in Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl’s “ahhhh ahhhh ahhhh” make this song a little more haunting

This song is a banger, and I think what you're describing a lot in this video is the work of the mixer. He or she does a lot to make every part of the performance sound "tight", and they definitely deserve a lot more appreciation than they get. Electronic artists, for example, aren't necessarily famous for their writing ability. The world class electronic artists do very good sound design, and then they put their mixing and mastering hats on and crush that job. Shout out to all the mixers and sound engineers in the world.
