@dehro
@dehro 4 жыл бұрын
The term barbaric actually comes from the Greek word to stutter, which the ancient Greeks used to identify foreigners, who did not speak the language. AFAIK, the main reason for the decline was that the empire crumbled under its own weight because of political infighting, coupled with a bout of the black plague. I am not even going to argue what would constitute a "sophisticated" legal system... all I'm going to say is that life for the common man wasn't that much different in the west than it was under the Mongols.. That said, this music rocks.

Throat singing is crazy. The way he is performing the 'trill' that is blowing your mind - listen very carefully and it will make sense - it is because he shifts the harmonics of his vocal cords slightly out of phase on purpose, and then back into alignment. It's just like playing a chord on a guitar, then tuning one of the strings up or down a titch - you hear the harmonic begin to 'trill' as it detunes, then smooth out as it tunes back in. That is literally what he is doing what his own vocal chords. It's nuts.

The Hu Band does some wonderful work, and one of their dominant themes is this whole sense of Mongolian heritage. The message that they used to be warriors - conquerors... and they still have that within them. Their song Yuve Yuve Yu (since you can have translated subtitles on KZbin) really does have the message of "we have the blood of warriors in us, and here we are, idle and listless as a nation." But yes, all of their instruments are traditional Mongolian instruments, even that guitar-like instrument.

They focus on making folk music based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Bronze Age, Iron Age, and Viking Age. It sounds so otherwordly and amazing at the same time, there's a lot of videos around of them performing while in character, imagine a stage filled with people dressed like ancient warriors, witches and shamans playing with drums and bones and other weird instruments from that time....it's incredible!! Yes, yes, YES! I love the band and of course your reaction was perfect. By the way, they released a live performance for a COVID charity cause. The sound quality is amazing and they are extremely special performers. I strongly recommend checking it out. If you want to instead check out another official video, the did a collaboration with Lzzy Hale to add a twist to "Song of Women" that would be a great place to see how they blend with a contemporary artist. I love that you are so interested in metal, there is so much amazing music there for you to discover. I hope your back is ok from the headbanging, it's a hazard with amazing metal bands. I just tweaked my neck listening to Orbit Culture so I know the risk well!

Very tribal. And I love the correlation between the ancient warrior on horseback, contrasted with the warriors of today on motorcycles. (The modern equivalent). Very"call to arms", and culturally connected. The Mongols were fierce warriors, and their culture is so tied to tradition, and stories, and songs that celebrate these qualities. I Love foreign cultures and world music in general, but this is an amazing fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. Great choice.
