And yes Steven is highly regarded as one of the best rock singers of all time. One of the most impressive things about him, is that even now into his 70's he's still able to sing in all the same registers and octave/keys he always has. Most bands play songs in a lower key live once their singers start to get older, but Aerosmith has never done that. He's one of the best, and Aerosmith is the best selling american band of all time.

Steven will always be, "ONE of the best" frontmen and singers of all the time. ONE of the best after Freddie Mercury. Only difference is Steven screams the high notes and Freddie actually sang them. I love Steven and when i went to see him at 16 back in 78/79, he sounded the same way he does now. He sure doesn't walk or get around that stage like he used to back then. But he sure as hell still tries and is still sexy going it.

About 15 years ago a friend of mine drove lighting trucks for Aerosmith! We drove to West Palm Beach for 2 nights of rocking out with Aerosmith! I was sitting backstage with Kris when a black limo pulled in. The window rolled down & it was Steven who said, Hey gorgeous! He then called Kris over and asked him to go outside. There were 2 girls outside in a line of groupies. The one girl was in a wheelchair & had a sign that she had made a scarf for him. Steven is normally all over the stage and he is in his 70s!! He always has scarves on the microphone stand. He told Kris to bring them in! Kris did. You could see by her hands & legs, this girl was paralyzed! Her friend said she was in a wreck a year before, paralyzed from the waist down! She just wanted to kill herself! Her favorite band was Aerosmith! Her friend said if you kill yourself, who will I take to see Zero smith next year!!?? So she agreed to wait. She started making scarves. Steven went right over to her and immediately asked if it was okay if he sat on the ground? She said yes. He spent about 30 minutes just talking to this girl! He is such a sweetheart! He asked where her tickets were. Bad seats, in what I call the nosebleed section, so high up you get a nosebleed! He said, no, no! Kris, take her to family section! She was on stage but off to the side with us!!

Not just 50 and up! I’m 28, grew up listening to Aerosmith (and most every other band/music genre past and present), and don’t know a single person who doesn’t know who Aerosmith is. I was actually lucky enough to go to an Aerosmith concert when I was in high school, as my father won free tickets at work for the concert that same night and took me as my mother couldn’t go. Best concert I’ve ever been to hands down. I loved their music before, but hearing them live took it to a whole other level, unfathomably better than any recording I’ve ever heard of them, and it was outside late at night in the pouring rain which funnily enough made it even better. I was just in absolute awe at the level of talent exemplified on that stage. I’ll never forget it as long as I live. True legends.

MrLboyd, you are listening to a live version of this song nearly 50 years after its release. Steven Tyler's voice is great in this considering he was 25 years old when this was released and in this recording he is 65 years old. You must listen to the original studio recording. All these guys are in their 70s now.

Joe gets a lot of well deserved credit and praise for his guitarwork, but it's kind of a shame how people forget about Brad Whitford who is every bit as vital a part of the Aerosmith sound as Joe, and as good a guitarist in his own right in my opinion. Aerosmith wouldn't be the same without either one of them (or for that matter Tom on the bass or Joey on the drums). There's a reason the "fall" of Aerosmith came when Joe and Brad left (even if Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo did a decent enough job of filling in) and their rise back to prominence came after Brad and Joe came returned.

Steven has a crazy 4 octave vocal range. Nicknamed the demon of screamin and has been in the business with Aerosmith with many hits, including walk this way with run dmc, the pioneer of mixing hard rock with rap. They have a huge catalog of songs, my favorite is Jamie got a gun. Another big step forward in making a heavy rock song that means something important.

I love watching people step outside their comfort zone to learn about and appreciate another genre. and dude, he is legendary in the rock genre and I think that when we can analyze lyrics and make them our own in very personal and very different ways, that is what creates a true "classic". Dream On can be many things to many different listeners, upbeat and hopeful, angry over the trials we go through reaching our dreams, sad with regret for things lost ... it easily covers a broad range of emotions. There are great artists, legendary artists then there are rock gods. IMO Steven Tyler is a rock god. I think many, if not most of our best rock artists were classically trained or had a lot of exposure to classic music theory. His talent is in his DNA and if his philanthropy is any indicator, he is a good human being perhaps even rectifying for previous sins IDK but his current rep is solid.

Exactly. But it was nice of Run... to cover it and ask Tyler to participate. It helped kick Aerosmith back on track. They had gone through a rough time with Tyler's addictions. I remember when they did the video for that and when I saw Tyler in it, I was happy. After that, their comeback was really great. Some people complain that they were not the same because the music style had changed. But Tyler did an interview (in the 80's) and they asked him about that. His response was that during the 70's he was so stoned his full potential never really came out. This time around he can focus and experiment. Nothing wrong in a style changing. All that means is you have music out there for your original fans and you have music out there for a whole new generation of fans. That is how you hang on. I never really go into their 70's music -- some of it was o.k; like this song for instance -- which blew my mind that they would come up with this type of song back then. And I liked "Walk this way", of course. But I liked everything they cranked out in the 80's. He is a serious musician, despite his track record in life -- no body is perfect. I am just glad he survived and still alive today. He almost went 6 feel under, a couple times, in the 70's. That would have been a complete waste and shame. Thank you Steven Tyler and company for many wonderful years of great music!

( & NH) The oundtrack of our 70s/80s/ 90s lives..

I had the privilege to see him live in San Antonio about 4 years ago. He played this song with a piano only. All I have to say is that it was amazing, wonderful, beautiful and I could not believe I got to see one of my favorite singers ever! And yes, MASTERFUL! Go back and hear his music from the 70’s and beyond!

He absolutely is a god in this genre. I grew up listening to Aerosmith and it’s always been incredible. You should also listen to the original version of this from earlier recordings. It’s always brought on such FEELS.

This performance is good, but it pales in comparison to when he was younger.

I was going to say he needs to hear the younger version of Tyler sing this song.

💯 He needs to hear Steven from the 70’s & 80’s.

There's also no drums in this version....makes it sound just...wrong.

I'm gonna agree with this as well. He should react to the 1974 Midnight Special performance of this song. It's the most authentic.

Yeah, he is definitely one of the best if not the absolute GOAT! Truly gifted and talented. Broke the mold too I think.

I think the crazy part is that he was in his mid 60’s when he sang this tribute. He has better vocal performances under his belt from. His peak years but he still crushes the performance because he is that much better than most.

It always brings me so much joy to see people have this kind of reaction to the music I grew up loving.

No ones better. Into his 70's and still the voice of an angel. This was a very emption piece with those brave men and women remembering friends and loved one. Beautiful on all fronts.

"Janie's Got A Gun" is an interesting showcase of his voice. Also "Dude Walks Like a Lady". His range is ALL OVER THE PLACE and if your just hearing him there is so much more. I'm 49 and have been listening since I was a teen. Don't know of anyone quite like him.

I agree, but a small quibble: Dude (Looks Like a Lady) is the correct title.

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are the bread and butter of Aerosmith his voice has taken a lot with the way he sings. This was a different version of the song for those who died in the marathon in Boston. Steven hasn’t lost his voice but now he needs to protect it if he wants to sing. Joe Perry and Slash are icons of guitar players nobody is like them ….
